The hotel has a renovated part and a non-renovated part. The low prices are the non-renovated portion. The rooms there are at best one to two stars. The air conditioning is poor. The mattress is terrible. The plumbing is old. We left early and
they refused to give us the remaining prepaid portion. Stay elsewhere and remain happily married. They advertise four stars and they are at best two.
The hotel was quite difficult to navigate to in my car with many of the surrounding streets closed for a Sunday fair or under construction. Once I found the hotel, getting to the garage was even more painful. On the other hand, coming from an
airport or train would be quite easy because it is right at a subway station called Astoria :)
The hotel itself has an air of times long past. It feels like an oasis of the 19th century in the busy world of the 21st. It is an older building and you can feel this was once a major hotel in the city, but it all lies in the past. Now its a small hotel with a lot of charisma and a good price for being right in the center of the city with easy access to subway and walking distance to anywhere you want to go.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Long walk from hotel
Go take the walk along the banks of Danube and across the bridge to the Buda Castle and once you are there, make sure you walk all the way around the ramparts. Very nice views and romantic setting.
The staff was friendly and helpful at the front desk.
The only problem with this hotel is that the restaurant staff was to busy chatting with each other
and not paying enough attention to all 6 people eating there. We had to get up to get any type
of service, including to pay. The service was not good,
however the food was good.
