Great location

Right on the river boardwalk and steps from the no. 2 tram; a block from the major tourist walk street in town; good river view, not great, though I think virtually all rooms have some river view it would have been best to have a view "up" the Danube rather than "downstream" and thereby would have been able to enjoy a night view of the chain Bridge. INcluded breakfast was superb. Have a big breakfast if you buy the included breakfast (which I'd recommend), but otherwise eat dinner out for sure; great food just blocks away with many choices.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Take the river boat up the Danube to to Santandre (sp?); one way trip was about 1800 HUF (around $10) per person; great little artist's village, very picturesque and great local goods shopping/picture taking, about an hour and a half by boat up the Danube; the boat is right across the road/tram tracks from the hotel; we caught the train (around 1200 HUF, or $8) and subway back to within two blocks of the hotel.

Excellent experience

The service is excellent. Our room is clean with great view to Danube river. The only drawback is the bathroom - only have a small spot for shower, no tub at all. You have to keep push the faucet to get running water - I understand it's a design to save water, but it's very inconvenience during the shower.

Good location and good value

The location is excellent, close to the Yellow Metro Vörösmarty tér and the boat tour Legenda pier. We paid $112 for a night and it was very good value.

Can't beat the view

This is a great, clean, tourist-friendly hotel with killer views of the Palace and Chain Bridge. Excellent location as well for walking around Budapest. It's about what you would expect for a tourist hotel right on the water. A bit Euro-trendy, not totally upscale, but very very serviceable with very friendly English-speaking staff. One knock (which seems to apply almost everywhere in Budapest) is the expensive internet service, which is around $30/day.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

The food stalls in the old market hall (ask at the desk) are the real deal at crazy good prices. Pass up all the tourist places luring you in with goulash soup and head straight for the second floor of Market Hall. It also has the cheapest beer and most colorful characters.

Very good choice for staying downtown

The hotel location was perfect, rooms were very nice with great overview on the Danube. Staff was very friendly but there were some miscommunication with regards to payment of taxes and fees and whether the breakfast was included into the price. However, it was soon sorted out and the breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice and very pleasent atmosphere.

Great location and service!

The Marriott Budapest is conveniently located in Pest, overlooking the Danube River. Our junior suite was beautiful and comfortable with magnificent views of the river and castle. The staff was exceptional and we appreciated the availability of Mercedes taxis with pre-negotiated rates. Good shopping is nearby. Suggestion: exchange some money into the local Hungarian currency before arriving. Recommendations: take a bathing suit and visit the famous mineral bath spa near the zoo; walk across the street and visit the impressive zoo; walk down the street for lunch at the famous Gundel's restaurant, then take in an evening performance at the stunning Opera House.

Superb views!

I live in Slovakia, temporarily and teach English, (I am a missionary and will go home this year), so for a nice weekend getaway I love to come to Budapest. My first time there I stayed at the Budapest Marriott - the view was so incredible that I slept with my window curtains open all night just so I could enjoy the view when I woke up. Now, I can not imagine staying anywhere else! The service is excellent of course and the food is delicious. The prices for internet and food are quite expensive so I don't eat there unless I get a deal with breakfast included and the internet I try for just one hour a day. Anyway, I love this hotel and I love Budapest - it is the perfect location to see all the sights on both sides of the beautiful Danube!

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

Do take the Hop on/Hop off bus on your first day if you can and are new to the city. It helps you to plan the rest of your time very well. My favorite sites are the Market Hall down by Freedom Bridge and the Buda hills from the museum to Fisherman's Bastion - it's all good!

The Budapest Marriott

What was not to like? Great exercise room, almost everyone on staff was friendly (with excellent English language skills); nice room. Great breakfast (minor nit: I was led to believe that it was included in the price; not so -- but extraordinarily good food, fresh wonderful fruits, every conceivable kind of breakfast food. (Coffee could have been stronger).

Tratoria Toscana, a five-ten minute walk, along the river. Incredible food -- in my case, tortellini stuffed with veal, in a cream-gorganola sauce. I have spent a lot of time in Italy and this compared well.
