Tiny rooms and expensive

The Kowloon Hotel Hong Kong is in a perfect position in Hong Kong just by Nathan Road and behind the Peninsula Hotel.. The view of the harbour was about 10 degrees between the Peninsula Hotel and an office building. The hard sell by the check-in staff was almost overwhealming. I would not return to this hotel on my next visit. I know there was a conference on but the price was far too high for this sort of hotel.

Nice but small

Can not beat location. Only thing is small rooms. Don't have a lot of luggage or you may have to climb over them. 2 large suitcases will fit into the closet, not much more. For the price and location, I will do again.

Run down hotel with ceiling that collapsed

I will start with the positive. This hotel is in an excellent location. Now the bad to the ugly. The room is tiny. I have been in cramped quarters in NYC and Paris, which are huge compared to this room. The rooms are stained. Not dirty, just old and stained. They need new carpets. The bathroom needs to be repainted. But the capper in my stay was that the ceiling in the bathroom fell down while I was taking a shower, exposing the moldy pipes. Then I had to hassle with the front desk to switch rooms. They immediatly claimed no other rooms were available, then said I was just trying to get a bigger room. After much hollering (not the best way to get what you need, but I was very frustrated), and visits from two different hotel staff, the manager finally realized I was not lying. The ceiling had collapsed. Probably due to the large (1.75 Liter) bottle of vodka that had been stored in the ceiling on top of the panel that collapsed. Guess one of the hotel staff needed to store the booze somewhere, and my bathroom turned out to be the lucky spot. Ended up in the same room on another floor. Maybe it is just me, but I would have expected to get a night comped or at least moved up a class in room, but I did not push the issue as it was late and I just wanted to take another shower to get rid of all the stuff that had fallen on me and go to bed. I have no qualms in saying I would never come back to this hotel. Even thought the location is excellent, the service is substandard and I felt I overpaid for what I received.

Good Location

Kowloon Hotel is conveniently located in the center of the tourist spot in Kowloon Island in Hongkong. Its walking distance to the HK Cultural center, Space Theater, Space Museum and HK Museum of Arts. The public pier is also nearby where you can have a beautiful view of the HK skyscrapers. At night the building lights and neons in the island across are awesome to see. Kowloon Hotel's room are smaller compared to ones in the US hotels but its comfortable. All kinds of reataurants are nearby.

Good Value, Great Location

The Kowloon Hotel was comfortable, clean, and in a great location. The room was small but managable if you are there as a single. The view from the room was a city view. If you want a big spaceous room with a view of the water or city skyline, try the Pennisula Hotel next door....but be prepared to pay considerably more. The beds were comfortable and the desk area great for watching tv or surfing the internet. The bathroom was again small but clean and managable. There was adequate space for hanging clothes. The front dest staff were friendly and helpful. The best thing about the Kowloon Hotel, besides the price, is the location. The Star Ferry terminal is about a 4 minute walk away. A subway entrance is located to the right of the hotel entrance. From this entrance, you can walk underground to catch the MTR or the KCR very easily and comfortably. Everything underground is clean, airconditioned, and traffic free. Walking underground is a great way to walk from Tsim Sha Tsui to Tsim Sha Tsui East and escape the heat, rain, and traffic congestion. Many of the major sights are within easy walking distance of the hotel or the MTR stops. If you like running or walking, the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade is nearby, next to the water. From the Promenade, the views of Hong Kong city are fabulous.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

There is an ATM cash machine around the left corner of the hotel entrance. Restaurants are everywhere. Take the Airport Express Train from the airport to Kowloon station. From here, grab the free shuttle bus to/from the hotel. Bus KC3 runs every 15 minutes and has a stop around the left side of the Pennisula Hotel.

My review of The Kowloon Hotel

Great hotel, centrally located just behind the Penninsula Hotel. Very helpful staff throughout my stay. Hotel is located 100 feet from the MTR entrance. Comes in handy in bad weather. A great value for a great hotel. The only negative is a HK$ 120 per day charge for high speed internet.
