Excellent, if out of the way.

This hotel is quite comfortable and a very viable option if the location works for you. Not near an MRT station you need to ride the trams to get to Central Hong Kong. Room size is considerably larger than the Ramada hotel in Kowloon.

Great Deal

The Ramada is a local hotel situated away from the center of town. The staff is very friendly and helpful and seem to all speak a bit of English. The breakfast was good, internet free, taxis were easy to get. The big negative about which they can do nothing is the deserted, dilapidated six-story building across the street which can make you wonder if you are in a safe part of town. I think you are, but it's unfortunate that that is the view from half of the hotel windows. That you can see the harbor over top of it helps a bit. The mattresses are Chinese, i.e. could use a soft pad.

Hong Kong alternative

The Ramada Hong Kong is an acceptable alternative for both the business and leisure traveler. While the lobby looks a bit tacky, the rooms are clean and spacious. The beds are hard, perhaps to the liking of many Asian visitors but too firm for many Americans. While located west of central, taxis and the low cost tram are available at all hours. The staff is helpful, rooms have free wifi service, and there is an adequate business center. Overall, an acceptable alternative, especially for visitors to Hong Kong University which is a short walk up Water Street.

Pleasantly surprised

My wife and I had a long (day and a half) layover on a flight connection, so we decided to get a cheap room. Reading the reviews, I was sort of expecting a so-so room at best, but I was really rather pleasantly surprised. As some reviewers have said the mattress was pretty firm...scratch that, it was flat out solid. I've never been on a firmer/harder mattress. It was very slightly less firm that sleeping on the floor. Surprisingly however, we both slept like logs. The room was not huge, but we got a free upgrade to a "suite" or something along those lines, and as a result the room was quite adequate in size. Had a small bedroom area as well as a small television/sitting area. There is a tram stop and a bus stuop right there at the hotel which is quite convenient. Staff was overall friendly and helpful. (They were English speaking, thouth some with pretty heavy accents.) There was an advertised free airport shuttle which was a bit misleading. What they actually have is a free shuttle bus that will take you to the Ferry Terminal or to the Hong Kong MTR (metro light rail) station. This wasn't a big deal however as the price for the MTR to the airport was pretty reasonable. Also, there is an airport baggage check at thte Hong Kong Station, which is massively convenient. We were able to check our bags and get our boarding passes there withouth having to stand in a line. Then we were free to explore around HK for the rest of the morning and afternoon and didn't need to head to the airport until just shortlly before our evening flight.

If you're going to fly out of the HK airport, use the in-town baggage check I discussed in my description. Wonderful service and I wish all cities would implement this.

Hotel shuttle

One morning we waited for the shuttle to the MTR station, the wait time almost an hour. The hotel staff told us due to the traffic. So if someone need to go to the MTR station, please take the cab.

Nice staff but pricey for location and room decoration

In contradiction to most Ramada hotels world wide this hotel looks old even though only 5 years old. The rooms are quite spacious but furniture is old-fashioned and gives the room a quite cheap and uncomfortable atmosphere. Rooms are nevertheless clean and relatively quiet. The staff however is very friendly and helpful and try to accommodate any wishes or request. There is a shuttle bus service from the hotel to the IFC and Macau ferry terminal, but the service stops at 6.30 pm!

Nice hotel, but.....

The room was ok but the bed was appalling! It was so hard that I needed to put the cushions from the lounge on it to be able to sleep. However, the hotel was clean, conveniently located and quiet.

The Marriott Hotel was across the street and around the corner. They did a great breakfast that sustained me for the whole day and only needed dinner at night. It proved great value for money

More like a 1 1/2 star not 4

I booked this hotel based on some good reviews, the airport shuttle, and the promise of a free room upgrade as promised by website. None of the above happened. Their "airport shuttle" was a third party service for $140 hkd. Thanks, I call call my own cab. Their bath products were in ketchup packages and was awful. The location was pretty good, but other than that, this place was not good or at least nowhere near a 4 star as claimed.

Too pricey

Hotel is located on a major bus line, so easy to access. The price was so expensive for my 1 night stay. Hotels in Dongguan, just across the border in China, have excellent quality rooms for VERY cheap prices. I could not believe the value and the difference in price.

Good place to rest

The location is not near shopping or restaurants, and was difficult to even find an ATM since there was not one available in the hotel.
