very pleased

The location is excellent for airport-hotel: excellent excess to the airport via free shuttle provided by the hotel, but away from the noise of the airport. Room is very clean and comfortable. The hotel restaurants are excellent. More choices in shopping and dinning at the adjacent mall.

Overnight Layover

We had an extended layover as part of our international flight back to the US. As such, we needed a hotel close to the airport that was clean and affordable. The Novotel Citygate was the perfect fit. Should the need arise again, this would be my go-to hotel near HKG.

Expensive, but a great location and fantastic staff

Of the hotels near HKG (Hong Kong Airport), this one is in my experience, the best. Great location as there are tons of options for dining, shopping and entertainment at the Citygate mall. Additionally, the hotel has a free shuttle that runs quite regularly and if you want to take a taxi, seems there are always a few waiting in the wings. The room is really nice, very comfortable, very quiet and well equipped. Typically excellent staff, helpful, knowledgeable and most that I have encountered have an excellent service oriented attitude. This is not a low cost hotel, but it delivers the goods for the price paid. PCB

Best option for Airport delay.

Given the need to stay over close to the airport, this is your best bet. You don't know you're near the airport, (No sound etc) the shuttle is every 20 minutes and is only about six minutes away. The hotel is connected to a giant shopping mall, as well as an MTR station which can get you into downtown within 20 minutes. The rooms are well appointed and much larger than the hotels downtown because of space limitations. Bar food is incredibly expensive and the curry is subpar...

Needlessly disappointed

We had an overnight here on the way out to Vietnam and also had a Day Room on the way home to London. Free shuttle from the airport and its proximity were great. Efficient check-in at the airy Reception where the main eating/drinking areas were clearly on view. The room was a pleasant surprise (great size for HK), good lighting, stylish bathroom and supremely comfortable mattresses. Only thing missing was a hairdryer. However, on return when using a Day Room, our stay was spoilt by being woken by Housekeeping staff hoovering in the hallway and their shouted conversation. My husband did ask them to be quieter but neither of us could resume our sleep. We were further aggravated by a loose shower-head holder and same for the magnified shaving mirror, neither of which could be held in any useful position. When checking out, my husband told the Receptionist of these problems. We were both perturbed by her grinning at us and simply saying 'sorry about that'. My husband thought that she perhaps hadn't quite understood what we had said so he impressed upon her that this was a Day Room to help us relax in between a long journey but this had been spoilt by the Housekeeping staff, meaning we had managed just over an hour's sleep. Now feeling quite irked by her response, he asked if there could be some consideration on the cost of the room (HK999). She momentarily stopped grinning and picked up the phone. After a quick conversation in local language she said the staff would be spoken to but, no, there would be no recompense - still grinning. We both had the impression that Novotel had perfected android staff for their Reception Desk with no concept of the needs of their clients. Such a shame.

Great airport hotel.

This is a great hotel if you have a overnight lay over out of Hong Kong airport. They have a shuttle that takes you to and from the airport. We were too tried to look for it so we took a cab, which cost about $5.00. They have a cool bar downstairs and the hotel is attached to a nice mall so you can walk around to kill time. Room was comfortable, bed was really nice, and shower was perfect. Don't stay here if you have intentions of seeing Hong Kong, it's only an airport Hotel, but still very nice.

Could have been bad, but was great

I rarely have complaints but this was a special case. I booked a standard room online. I contacted the hotel to make pick up arrangements and was delighted to find the shuttle was making its run every 15 min or so. After checking in, the hallway leading up to the room smelled of mold, but was fine with it. What really set things off wrong was as soon as I turned the lights on, I see a bug resembling a tick or a larger bed bug scurrying off. I caught it and promptly brought it to the hotel staff's attention. The manager, Joe, came over from his area to address it personally. They were very apologetic and explained that they do regularly fumigate the rooms, about once a month. Wanting to make things right, Joe upgraded my room to the suite, and gave my associate(another room) and I free wifi access. Wasn't a great start but the upgrade made the night very pleasant with a beautiful view of the mountain and part of the city. The room had a very nice layout with the bed facing the window. Complementary espresso machine access was a really nice touch. The water was clean and drinkable from the tap. The room service was quick and the food was above average.

Great place to stay on a layover

The airport shuttle service was easy to locate at B 16 kiosk at HKG international. Their shuttle service runs every 10 minutes. The hotel cannot be in a better place. It's located in the City Gate outlet shopping mall. Although the mall is an "outlet mall" it carries name brands such as Samantha Thavesa, Armani Exchange and several high end US brands. We had a one bed room, which was surprisingly chic and cosmopolitan. The room was very comfortable. From the 20-23 floors, it is considered to be the premier floors and there is a premier lounge where you can relax, surf the internet or have a drink. I enjoyed Novotel City Gate. We plan to stay here again.
