GREAT location but no wi-fi

Hotel Bonaparte has a GREAT location right in between Causeway Bay and Wan Chai. There's a 5min walk to Causeway Bay station MTR entrance through a market street that's a little annoying but not a terrible walk. Room is clean and modern and receptionist had decent attitude. However, the lack of free wi-fi and the fact that they charge for luggage storage means this might not be the choice for a lot of people. For us one night was OK but definitely if longer you need the wifi.. they don't even offer it in lobby either.

Small room in central location

The hotel is in a very convenient location-- right between Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, within walking distance to both ( less than 10 min walk to bioth). From the airport, the E11 bus takes you right to a very closely location ( after getting off the E11, only two minutes walk). E11 costs only 21hk dollars from and to airport from hotel, about an hour to 90 minutes one way. Metro station Wan Chai is about 600 meters (5 minute walk away). Plenty of restaurants around. Shopping can be done in causeway bay. The room is very small, you cannot do much there other than sleeping and showering. There is air consitioner, but no heat, so, in the winter, it gets quite cold in the room. We asked for an extra blanket and a extra heater. They might have very limiters number of heaters though. The bath room in the double room is separated from the toilet & sink, which is convenient, when two people are sharing the area. The room area is quite dark, with a lot of shadows. I guess some people like that kind of design, for me, it was not lit up enough. But for sleeping, it's not necessary. Generally, the service is no better or worse than other hotels. One thing, there is NO TELEPHONE in our room. INTERNET is not complementary. You need to pay 100 HK dollars per day or 300 per week. However, if you don't want their Internet charge, you can get Internet from the restaurant nearby. Some restaurants have wifi, and they have a sigh on their door. For example Dim Dim Sum ( introduced in tips, less than 3 minute walk).

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The street where the hotel is is full of restaurants -- two of which we tried-- both within 2 minutes walk. One is a rice noodle place, turn right when exiting the hotel, and it's 5 meters walk around the corner, their beef rice noodle is very good and costs 28-42 HK dollars. They were open until 22:30. The other is called Dim Dim Sum. It is about 30 meters ( another minutes or so) down the sreet from the rice Moody's place-- you just need to cross the street once, about 49-50 meters from the hotel. Their have 6 Set Menus for 30 HK dollars, including one main dish, one rice, and one drink ( soy milk or soft drink). This menu is very very well cooked. They also have dim sum. They were opened until 23:00. They have wifi in the restaurant for their customers. Hot tea is free. They charge 1 HK dollars for napkins. There is also a restaurant called Hangzhou restaurants which has got 1 Star by Michelin. It's within walking distance, but the way is not quite as straight forward, maybe around 10-15 minutes walk. But that is a very very good restaurant and a bit pricy -- you can easily get to over 150 HK dollars per person. We were 9 people, and order about 11 - 13dishes and we shared the cost -- was about 165 per person.

Pretty good for Hong Kong & the price

Stayed there for 9 nights late March / early April 2012. Pros: * Great location between Wan Chai & Causeway Bay. Easy to get to the MTR at Times Square. Close to the horse races on Wednesdays. Great food available close by. Close to the trams on Hennessy. * Reasonably priced for Hong Kong & the location. * Staff was very helpful; even had umbrellas for use when it rained. * Nice hot shower with lots of water pressure. * Had English newspapers available gratis, which I really liked. * Nice, comfy comforter for the bed; pillows were super soft (both totally important for me). * Super cold A/C! Since I live in San Francisco and was not at all prepared for the humidity and heat, it was a great relief to get back to the hotel and crank that sucker and just bask in the cold. * Provided a pretty good American-style breakfast at the adjacent cafe. Cons: * Wow, the bed was rock hard. I'm used to my pillow-top super soft comfy bed. Trying to get used to that sucker was tough. Luckily, by the end of the trip, I was so exhausted from not being able to sleep the early nights that I fell asleep despite what felt like sleeping on concrete. I would guess it's like sleeping on a prison bed. I mean, really, who can sleep well on a bed like that? * What was up with the glass wall for the shower/toilet?? Seriously. If you're sharing a room, you need to be extra comfortable with them. No privacy at all when trying to perform biological waste expulsion functions or showering functions. Not cool at all. Fine if you're by yourself, I guess. * A couple of tiny little things that annoyed me, like there wasn't a light by the sink mirror, so I couldn't see what I was doing when shaving. Overall, unless you've got obscene money at your disposal, this hotel is a great choice. My guide book called it "micro-luxury", which I think fits. It worked out quite well for me. Other than the bed. I HATED the bed. My Hong Kong-living friend who I was visiting was very impressed with the size and quality of the room. For us Americans who like everything super-sized, you may be shocked by how small the room is. Don't expect to fit much luggage in the there. Also, it's Hong Kong: it's noisy. Get ear plugs if you want to get any sleep. Those cab drivers have no qualms about keeping that horn blasting at all hours of the night. I'd definitely stay there again, but I would bring a sleeping bag or air mattress or something soft to put over the torture device that they call a 'bed'.

Convenient location

The room was very small; there was no walking space. However, the hotel is located in a convenient location and if you're just looking for a place to sleep this hotel isn't so bad. They have free internet at the cafe next to the hotel. They also give you a cell phone to use during your stay, which was very useful. However, the one thing I thought was rather weird was when the hotel people gave us free airport express train tickets (for our departure) on the day we arrived. And those tickets expire on the day of purchase ... so basically we couldn't use it when we were leaving because it had already expired. So why did they give us those tickets when we arrived and not when we were leaving? The overall trip was great, but I don't think I'll stay here again. Sorry.
