Hong Kong Trip

This is a very nice and very busy hotel, in a good location. It has both a good shuttle service to Nathan Road for shopping and a shuttle service to the train station for return to the airport. Both are free regular. The only negative point is no free Wifi, it is free in the attached shopping mall I would also suggest booking with bed and breakfast, as I found breakfast to be expensive. I would use this hotel again.

Disappointing !

The best thing about the Harbour Plaza Metropolis is the location and proximity to Hung Hom Station. The hotel is characterless and needs a major redevelopment. No proper bar as such - only a small area off the main restaurant . Rooms are really small and in need of refurbishment. We had a room with two single beds which meant that there're was almost zero floor space! The rooms were however kept very clean but felt a bit musty as the windows don't open. Overall a disappointing experience for our 8 night stay- didn't eat in the hotel once as it was overpriced and uninspiring.

Comments

1) The toilet's flushing ability is below average. It is common to have toilet tissues left inside the toilet after flushing. It also takes about three and half minutes to refill the toilet tank after each flushing. 2) It appears to be impossible to adjust the right water temperature when taking a shower. It is either too hot, or too cold, or no way of keeping the desirable temperature for a longer time. 3) The living room doesn't have enough space to accommodate the sofa bed. We found a big stain left on the sofa bed's mattress.

Mixed experience

The hotel itself is really very nice, absolutely 4-star. Two experience did mar the stay, however. First, while the price was honored, there was unrelenting pressure to upgrade to a "premium" package. Best I can tell, it might be of interest to a business person meeting clients or customers, but was of little value (particularly at a spectacular surcharge of $60USD per might)...but the manager's otherwise flawless English failed at the word, "No." Really, it was beyond reason. Second, I'm used to a surcharge for internet access...however the charge here for internet access was a whopping $20USD per night. OK, a third experience that wasn't great. While many hotels have gone to some form of relatively painless checkout, here was the old-fashioned "stand in line for half-an-hour" scenario. Want to avoid that? Buy the above-mentioned premium package, and there is no waiting. Again, the hotel was splendid...it was certain policies and practices that really marred the experience.

Not a good location for tourist in HK

The hotel is far from interesting activities in HK, you will need to take a taxi or train to get anywhere. Service is not good, I stayed more than 40 minutes in check-in. Very expensive hotel for what it is.

Great base for Hong Kong

Right next door to a shopping mall and Hung Hom metro station, the hotel is a great base for exploring Hong Kong. We stayed on the Club level and were impressed with the view over the harbour and well-organised Happy Hour. Our room was small but fine and spotless. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Grab an Octopus card (small deposit payable) from the MTR station for use on just about all public transport. You can also use it at vending machines for drinks, in McDonalds and a range of other places.

Self Travel

Overall, it was a good experience. I stayed in this hotel 6 years ago and the view was not nice at all, but this time, the view in the room was nice. In general, the room might be too tight for 2 persons, but since I traveled by myself, it was enough space for me. The hotel is pretty closer to MTR. and it will take you to most of high light place within short distance.

Excellent value in Kowloon

Room was small but clean and nicely decorated. Bath fixtures were excellent for this age and price range. Hotel is connected to a small shopping area with coffee shops and bakeries and chinese and japanese restaurants. Shopping area is directly across street from Hung Hom subway station. The buffet is very good but there are not a lot of other restaurants with any western food within walking distance. Also there is not any serios shopping area within easy walking distance. Still the location is very good because of the proximity to the subway and ease of getting taxis. Just make sure you have your destination in clear writing for the drivers. The breakfast and internet were all extra charges. We were upgraded to a harbor view which is not a huge deal since it was not a great angle. Just the same, the staff was very friendly about upgrading us. I would book this room again if the price was the same. I think it was a good value considering how expensive HK is. The thing that bothered me most was paying $108 HKD for an electric adapter in the room because I forgot to bring one. HK uses UK outlets.

Not a bad hotel for the price. Most of what you'll read in other reviews is correct; the rooms are small, the staff can be less than helpful and the location is a bit outside the heart of Kowloon. They do charge for things that should be free, such as local telephone calls and $18 (US) per day for internet access (which is way overpriced). The good news is that there is a good sized mall attached to the hotel where you can buy things you need (e.g., there is a nice grocery store there). You can get free internet at the train station at several locations and the train station itself is accessible from the hotel by covered walk. The hotel also provides a free shuttle to their other hotel in downtown Kowloon, though you can get around just fine by using the MTR (the Hong Kong subway system) at the train station.

If you are gong to travel around Hong Kong using the MTR (their subway system), remember to buy an "Octopus" card at the Hung Hom Station (next to hotel and accessible through a covered walkway in the Metropolis Mall). The card is not only good for paying for the train but can be used at some vending machines and restaurants in train station.

Vacation stay.

I recomend this hotel for a short stay in HK. i got sick in HK and the staff were very helpful in trying to make me as confortable as possible. It's right next to a train-metro station and not for from the promenade with it's nice view of HK island. The bar at the top of the hotel has a great view of the city. The hotel also has a mall located just below so you can get a snack (7/11) or frozen yogurt.
