Quiet nights in Causeway Bay with easy access to cosmopolitan action

This Causeway Bay hotel has a felicitous location between Happy Valley Racecourse, a wealth of shopping centers and the Wan Chai business district. The hotel staff are the stars of this show, elevating the classiness of the hotel. Standard rooms may be modest in size and decor, but upgraded rooms are a palpable step up in luxury. Quiet nights promote proper rest, but several nearby public transport options put travelers at the heart of business, shopping and tourist districts in minutes.

Highlights
  • Watch horse races at Happy Valley Racecourse from guest rooms
  • Location is quiet at night, but offers nearby access to tram, MTR and ferry
  • A total of 3,785 square feet of configurable meeting and event space
  • Free Wi-Fi access
Rooms
On one side of the hotel lies the Happy Valley Racecourse, and on the other is a cemetery. While this detail might sound unappealing, it actually creates a quiet zone for peaceful sleep. All rooms have wireless Internet access, but the in-room broadband access is often speedier. Standard rooms meet the fundamental needs of travelers with satellite TV, in-room safe and the added perk of a pillow menu. Higher-end rooms and suites have views of the racecourse and city, with enriched decor and additional space for work or relaxation.
Features
The excellent service shines as brightly as the sparkling lobby. Adjoining the lobby is the intimate 3T bar, whose outdoor patio lets patrons relax over drinks while soaking in the street life. La Maison de l'Orient serves Cantonese and western cuisine, and both restaurant and bar have free Wi-Fi. A small fitness center and two 24-hour business centers serve in a pinch, while the Foot Joy Club treats weary feet with the pampered attention they deserve. The hotel's little touches add up to great value in Causeway Bay.
Transportation
  • Tram stop directly in front of hotel
  • Causeway Bay MTR station (10-minute walk)
  • Hong Kong International Airport (25.8 mi/41.5 km)

Best ground crew in Hong Kong.

The front desk staff vary in their commitment to customer service. Professional standards should be consistently evident no matter who is at the front desk. On the plus side, the ground crew are the best in the city. The luggage handlers do their work with impressive skill and consideration for guests. The hotel greeters, door openers, and room cleaners keep the hotel running smoothly and make people feel welcome. The downside during the summer of 2014 was hotel renovation/ construction, which went on June - August. In June, during our first stay, it was hard to get a good night's sleep. In August, during our second stay, moving up to a high floor made a big difference in the noise level. Also be sure to get a room away from the tour groups in which adults and children treat the hallways as an extension of their rooms (yelling, slamming doors and generally disregarding the "Please do not disturb" signs on other guests' doors.) Off season, the hotel will be quieter. The location is fine for people willing to walk to Times Square to catch the MTR.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

Try to get off the beaten track of tourist shopping, which seems to us the least interesting aspect of Hong Kong. Take the MTR and then walk to temples and villages for a more meaningful experience.

Great views, modern room and friendly staff

Room was modern and looks recently refurbished. Check-in process was rather a long wait before we got served despite there being 5-6staff at the counter all serving other guests. I'm guessing their system requires them to manually type in all the guest details. There is a bond payable upon checkin payable in HKD cash or you can secure by credit card, which is what we did because we haven't exchanged any HKD yet. Also at check-in we were notified they have given us a free upgrade to a better room. Not sure what the difference was. We booked a Quad Family room with 1 queen and 2 singles. But the room we stayed was on the highest level and had 2 queens only. Housekeeping was always friendly and super efficient. We asked for extra supplies and they literally knocked on our door 1min after we got off the phone. We passed by them a couple times at the lifts and they were always smiling and friendly. The hotel has a free shuttle service to a few handy places, including causeway bay stn, but if you need to get to somewhere at a particular time, make sure you get there at least 15mins earlier to secure your spot on the shuttle as spots fill up quickly during peak times. The shuttle departs on time as per the timetable. Location wise, it was a 10min walk to Causeway Bay station, however in the heat, it seemed much longer. As we were a party of 4, after a long day of walking around, we would just catch a taxi from causeway bay to the hotel and that would cost us around HKD$25-30 for a 5min cab ride. (There is an automatic $22 charge for jumping in a taxi regardless of where you go.) Our room had a mobile phone with internet which we could take out with us for google maps so that was really handy. When we booked the hotel it said free wifi but it turns out that it is only free in the lobby, In the room, there is no 'free wifi' connection, but we just used the in-room mobile provided by the hotel as a hotspot so no dramas. Only wish we thought of that earlier in the trip rather than hang around the lobby for the wifi instead! :P Our room faced the HK skyline which is the front. The back end of the hotel is directly opposite a cemetary. It didn't bother us but something to note.

Good Hotel

The only downside is nobody on staff explained the underground walk way. We walked along way as we weren't aware it was there. Would also be great if after a 20 hour flight there was at least some where to freshen up.We were unable to access the room for 5 hour's after arriving.

Return customer

I stayed with this hotel before. Booked here again due to last minute offer. On my arrival the friendly staff upgraded my room for free due to my short stay (1 night only). Only downside is there's no complimentary WIFI in the guest rooms, but wifi in the lobby is free of charge. A bit inconvenient for those who doesn't willing to pay for the internet surcharge. My other suggestion is would be great if the hotel could modify the shuttle bus time to every half an hour. Definately will recommend this hotel to others.

Busy hotel in Happy Valley

Pleasant clean comfortable hotel with big room by Hong Kong standards. Price was exceptional. Especially if your stay extends to over 5 nights. It's a pleasant 5 minute walk to Times Square where there is everything a shopaholic may want to find.

Renovation

Usually renovations gets bettter features. This was not my caase since the room newly renovated was smelling of new too much such as chemicals and new furnitures' glues or something like that. Nothing bad but it was too sensitive to this smell and feeling sick. The staff was just great and in a flach they change my accomodation to the old fashined room. That's what hospitality should mean!!! All best congrats to the staff
