Piece of Paradise
Recently got back from Palmetto Bay Plantation on Roatan, one of the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras. What an amazing week. At first we weren't sure as this is a remote location on the island. But it turned out that it felt like we had our own little piece of paradise. From a wrap around porch with a private plunge pool our villa had direct views of the blue ocean waters. The dock has a covered landing with 3 hammocks to swing in the breeze… this became one of our afternoon rituals. We also had some great quality time with the kids playing Uno and Scrabble almost every sunset on the porch as we sipped our frozen drinks and ate popcorn. The resort is a 15 minute ride from the main road where there is a supermarket and the other things to see and do on the island. Because the island is small it is very easy to get around and see the various beaches and visit some of the commercial areas. We rented a car and found it a great addition to the hotel shuttle van that can take you anywhere on the island. My kids (8 and 12 yrs old) loved the ride to and from the main road as it is very rural and sometimes a stray cow or Rooster was there to greet us. Also the view from the top is a spectacular site of the whole coastline. It was also a great value…where can you stay in a 3 bedroom/2 bath villa with a modern kitchen, direct views of the ocean, private plunge pool and daily maid service for under $300/nite?!!!. It easily sleeps 2 couples and 2 children. We cooked dinner one night in the house and enjoyed the resort restaurant the other nights. Everything at the property is no more than a minute or 2 away from the house. We plan to return and reclaim our piece of Paradise.

Short walk from hotel
There is an on-site dive shop with several trips each day to snorkel or dive. Great swimming off the dock or beach. Kayaks available for guests at no charge. In addition to the private pool at our house there is a pool on the main deck with a restaurant.

totaly disaster
STAY AWAY!!! – We do not recommend this resort, they have a host of problems. There are gangs with guns on the road that leads into the resort. The dinner service was terrible; we often waited one hour for the special of the day. Not only that, the food consists of reheated frozen meals, it smelled bad and tasted terrible. Our villa was dirty and lacked sufficient hot water for two people taking a cold shower every everytime. The towels were also not changed for 4 days – after repeated requests. The kitchen equipment in the villa did not work and our unit did not have a TV, radio or alarm clock. In addition, we had reserved a rental car, upon arrival they did not have the class of car we initially booked. We had no option but to rent a larger car, which cost twice as much in addition to insurance without full coverage. This Valentine's Holiday was the worst experience of our life.
