Review of Clarion Suites Roatan at Pineapple Villas
Dec 15, 2012
Second time in Roatan, but first time staying in French Harbor which is centrally located. Walking distance to Eldon's Supermarket. They appear to be condos doubling as vacation rentals. Very secure and clean with well-appointed units. Mine was a
very large, one bedroom lock-off. It included a full kitchen(stove, dishwasher, microwave, frig with ice-maker#. Pots, pans, plates and utensils stocked the cupboards. The living area faced the main road. But noise from the street wasn't the problem. I could hear the snores of my neighbor next door. Had to close my bedroom door to silence it.
Pools for each building. The main pool by the spa is for "members only" or you can "pay to play". The gym is very well-kept and equipped: bikes, treadmills, stairclimbers, dumbbells and a variety of machines. Spa seemed pricey to me... $60 for 1 hour massage.
I loved Herby's Sports Bar on the premises even though it can be sensory overload with all the big screens surrounding you. Great place to eat and watch the Pacquiao - Marquez fight!
If you stay here#free-parking#, I recommend renting a car for families or groups. I rented a scooter from the Dollar rent-a-car across the road from the airport. Rully is happy to accept cash. They delivered it to me at the condo/hotel and I dropped it off and walked across the street to the terminal. Yesenia#Reception# was very helpful in negotiating the price: $25/day.
Speaking of negotiating. Don't pay the taxi more than 100 Lempira#Lps# to get here. There is a surcharge for travel after 8:30 pm, but don't pay 25 bucks like I did because your flight was delayed by 2 hours and you're tired. Establish price/fare before you get in the car!
Finally, the one thing you can't negotiate is the Exit Tariff... about $40 U.S. You don't leave the country without it!
