Opened in November 1991, Hotel Carl Gustaf in St. Barths, French West Indies, is dramatically perched high atop the glittering harbor of Gustavia, and surrounded by tropical vegetation. A small luxury resort, the charming property is the brainchild of Jacques Laurent, a successful (French) captain of industry and competitive yachtsman.
Featuring a selection of 14 one-, two- and four-bedroom suites, each guestroom is located in an enchanting cottage, and all offer panoramic views of the harbor and distant islands. A duty-free port, Gustavia is a picturesque paradise of red-roofed buildings, high-end boutiques, a yacht-filled harbor, and very relaxed lifestyle, drawing countless celebrities and the worlds most sophisticated travelers.
The hotel bears the name of His Majesty, the current King of Sweden, who graciously gave his personal permission in recognition of the Swedish presence on the island.
In addition to world-class accommodation and an ideal setting, and a short stroll from the islands gorgeous Shell Beach, Hotel Carl Gustaf offers a wide range of luxurious amenities and services. An extensive refurbishment program is underway that will result in a new spa, restaurant and lounge area, the Royale suite, and other property-wide improvements and enhancements.
Each of the 14 suites offer magnificent views of the Harbor, and are designed to anticipate every need. Favored by couples, families and intimate groups of friends and colleagues, each of the one- and two-bedroom suites offer the highest levels of comfort. Spacious, bright and charming, each guestroom has its own distinct style, boasting an air of grace and sophistication, and the utmost in privacy.
Artistic details such as hand-carved wooden furniture and array of furnishings create a refined French-Caribbean atmosphere. All suites feature lavish appointments, including high thread-count linen sheeting, plush blankets, deluxe mattresses, mini bar, safety deposit box, dual-line direct telephone line, LCD screens with DVD player, IPod systems, and a wide selection of DVDs. - DELUXE - JR_SUITE
- Approx 400-sq. ft and located just above the resort's spa, the Spa Junior Suite will be completed in 2008. Offering a private plunge pool and overlooking Gustavia Bay and Shell beach, this suite is ideal for two, and features a living-room and a luxurious ensuite bathroom with multi-jet shower, double sinks and separate water closet. The Spa Junior Suite features many amenities, including mini-bar, LCD flat screen TV and satellite channels, CD/DVD player, IPod system, complimentary Wi-Fi access, cordless telephone, safety deposit box. A terrace with deck chairs and plunge pool complete the lovely setting. (Note: a cot can be added.). Renovated in 2008.A 5% of local taxes on the room rate will be charge at the check-out.
- DELUXE - SUITE
- Approx. 800-sq. ft, our 1-bedroom Suite accommodates two guests. These selected suites feature a large living room with ceiling fan, central air conditioning, fully-equipped kitchenette, separate master bedroom with king sized bed, mahogany topped bedside tables, sitting area, his and hers closets, an armoire with television, and a master bath, replete with a multi-jet shower, double-length sinks, separate water closet and integrated hair dryer. Large outdoor terraces with comfortable deck chairs and private plunge pools complete the setting. (The king size bed can be converted into twin beds). Renovated in 2006. A 5% of local taxes on the room rate will be charge at the check-out.

- Approx. 1,200-sq. ft. The two-bedroom suites feature a large living room with ceiling fans, a fully-equipped kitchenette, two separate bedrooms with central air, a large dressing room, two bathrooms with shower, two sinks, separate toilets and an integrated hair dryer. There is a large outdoor terrace with deck chairs and a private plunge pool. The king size beds can be converted into twin beds. It is possible to add a roll-away bed or an extra bed in the bedrooms. Renovated in 2006. A 5% of local taxes on the room rate will be charge at the check-out.
- ROYAL - SUITE
- The spectacular 2,600-sq. ft. Royale Suite boasts a refined French-Caribbean atmosphere. Overlooking resort grounds and Gustavia Harbour, Shell Beach and distant islands, the Royale Suite features a private entrance, over-sized (600-sq. ft.) living-room; four separate bedrooms with king beds and bathrooms (replete with multi-jet showers), a large fully-equipped kitchen, separate lounge/office, and several terraces that maximize island vistas and St. Barth's moonlight sky. Located just above the living-room, the loft-like master bedroom is designed for ultimate relaxation and supreme comfort, offering the most spectacular views. Mini-bar, LCD flat screen TVs/satellite channels, CD/DVD players, IPod systems, complimentary Wi-Fi access, cordless telephones, and safety deposit boxes, this Suite is surrounded by a 2,600 sq. ft. walled garden terrace, infinity plunge pool and Jacuzzi. - Redesigned in 2008, the Carl Gustaf continues to garner global acclaim, offering one of the French Caribbean's finest dining experiences, served under the culinary direction of Executive Chef Emmanuel Motte, Victoria's, the resort's signature dining outlet. The gourmet eatery features new dcor, an expanded kitchen, and other improved design details. The restaurant will feature beautifully presented dishes, each artistic and all prepared with the freshest ingredients possible, epitomizing fine French cuisine. Open daily for dinner only. The resort Wine Cellar is among the best in the region, stocking more than 300 of the world's most celebrated wines, champagnes, cognacs and more, and a treasured collection of "Old Rums" from different Caribbean islands.

- Completely redesigned in 2008, it is ranked among the best spots in the world for sunset cocktails. Live music adds to festive atmosphere. Extensive menu of creative cocktails feature Essentials and Classics from Hurricanes to Mojitos; plus a wide selection of Champagne cocktails, martinis, after dinner drinks, alcohol-free drinks, Champagnes by the glass, cognacs, Armagnac, calvados, Eaux-de-vie (fruit brandies); exotic cigars. - The Carl Gustaf offers a private conference room appropriate for high-level social or business functions. Accessed via a staircase, the space offers TV, video projection, Internet, fax and more. In addition to two dedicated staff members, conference butlers are also available to planners and hosts, to ensure that attendee needs are anticipated and handled flawlessly. This space can accommodate up to 20, and is available for both business and social private events.
