Modern, back-to-nature scheme at Athens hotel with free Wi-Fi near park
The Park Hotel Athens offers Greek hospitality overlooking Pedion Areos Park. The "urban nature" theme branches out with tree trunks in the lobby and the Oak Room Café, an illuminated leaf-motif ceiling at Gallo Nero restaurant and potted trees around the rooftop swimming pool and bar. In the summer, the pool deck is a popular place for cocktails and views of the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill. Nearby the Park Hotel Athens, jog in the park, stroll to the National Archaeological Museum or catch the metro to see all of the Athens attractions.
Highlights
  • High-speed wireless Internet access throughout the hotel (fees apply)
  • Fitness center

Rooms
Nature-inspired colors fill the 140 rooms and 10 suites at the Park Hotel Athens. Non-smoking rooms, room service and high-speed wireless Internet access are available (fees apply). Voicemail makes it easy to receive messages. Upgrade to an upper floor superior room to enjoy a plasma TV, DVD player, coffee tray, iron/ironing board and Korre bath amenities. Seventh floor rooms at the Park Hotel Athens feature a balcony, too.
Features
The family-owned Park Hotel Athens offers easy access to all Athens points of interest, from the Acropolis and Plaka district to Syntagma Square. Nice but aging quickly

Cons: The hotel was all right for Europe with a small room that needed some serious updating (the walls had canvas) and the lobby was much smaller than the pictures make it appear. The hallways are strange and dark. The closest station has been closed for over a year so the location seems worse than it is. Pros: The breakfast was really good and the front desk staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. The room was clean and we had a great view of the park Summary: Athens in general more resembles a city in South America than the rest of Europe and this hotel is no exception. The staff helps to make up for the aging feel of the hotel, but definitely not the luxury one would find in other "four star" hotels in Europe

Very good location for the price

Staff was very helpful. This was a one night reservation. The staff arranged to have a cab pick me up to go to the airport. It was on time.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Short walk to the Metro and the Off and ON bus for the museums and shopping. An ATM in English across the street.

A changed hotel

Hotel has been "modernized" new lobby, dining (breakfast) now on 8th floor, lobby now looks a cheap motel in USA. We have stayed in the Park Hotel for years--a first class, older hotel with great service, Large beautifully decorated rooms with nice bath etc. Now it has no character. Great location for our travel through Athens to the Volos area. (We are native Greeks and know our way around quite well). Also note that there are several "Park" hotels in Athens area. Need somehow to differentiate. We used the street address.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are several small excellent restaurants in the area. One is in the Pedion park across the street. Others are nearby. We find most of the hotels serve European or even American food. We like to go up to Lekabitus at dusk to see the marvelous sunset and have some truly Greek food. The ride on the cable way is fantastic

Park Hotel Athens 7/31/2010 to 8/13/2010

Interesting experience. Adjacent metro stop was closed, not their fault. We ended up using #15 trolley bus to Syntagma. Worked well if OK with occ. waits. We were interested in Nat. Arch. Museum, worked great! Surprise was great (not cheap) rooftop restaurant. Pool was good; closed at 18:00 for poolside dinner service. We had construction on going, little noise before 09:30. We got a good rate possibly related to offers due to construction.

Sub-standard

Room was a smoker room. The neighborhood in which it is located is not particularly central, but more importantly the hotel is not located in a very nice neighborhood. As in some other areas of central Athens, there is a lot of graffiti, but also homeless people, and even prostitution in areas near to the hotel, and we were advised by our taxi driver not to go into the park opposite to the hotel. The rooms and much of the rest of the hotel would definitely benefit from some TLC. Many of the details that make the difference between a 3-, 4-, and 5-star category hotel were just not there to justify its 5-star categorization.

Basic Dislikes :- Internet costs

Basic Dislikes :- Internet costs 12 Euros per day. IMO, this should be free for such a hotel. My bathtub leaks water and the bathroom floor was always wet. annoying. Breakfast was the same every morning for 10 days. Location is not great. Expensive. Was removating partly when i stayed there in Jun 2010. Likes :- Relatively clean, Service was excellent. Very polite and great service staff i must say. Nice restaurant on the 8th floow. Superb view of the acropolis and lycabettus.
