Location
Hotel was very conveniently located near Metro Red Line Akropolis station, Akropolis Museum, restaurants recommended by Rick Steves and Lonely Planet, and the Akropolis itself. We upgradted and got a room with a very small balcony and a view of the Akropolis. Internet access was satisfactory and the breakfast was continental and adequate. Could not push the two beds together, but we managed.

Wonderful Hotel :)
OK. So, My friend and I traveled to Athens from Japan. We looked all over the internet for a good hotel and Philippos was the best one we could find. It definitely stood up to its reputation. First off, the location was AMAZING. Totally amazing and pretty safe as well. Getting there from the airport was a breeze. We ended up taking the 95 bus to Syntagma? Square station and then transferring lines to go to Acropolis station - only about a 5 min walk from the hotel. When we got to the hotel, the staff was so friendly and helpful! And our room was beautiful. We stayed on the 5th floor and had a huge balcony and a view of the acropolis (blocked a bit by surrounding buildings). The included breakfast was super delicious as well! Within about a 10 min walk from the hotel were a small grocery store, cute cafe's and at least three bars, shopping, the acropolis :), a bank, the new acropolis museum, the jewelry museum (SOOOO PRETTY) and a bus stop for the hop-on hop-off Athens's city tour. I would totally recommend this hotel for anyone!!! The only thing is, it's not really handicap accessible. we didn't have a problem, but to get to the reception area you have to go up about 10 stairs. We actually ended up going back again at the end of our trip as well! Check in is usually at 2, but they had a room ready and let us check in really early. it was on a smoking floor though... but to our surprise, the room smelled just fine :). we were really really pleased with our stay and would absolutely stay there again in the future.

Entertainment tip:
Short walk from hotel
The hop-on hop-off bus tour is a blast. It costs about E15 per person, but you can get a 1 or 2 day ticket. They have stops at pretty much all of the famous places and come at least twice an hour. It's really easy to get around the city and see a bunch of cool places while riding a double-decker bus!!

Very good location - just over
Very good location - just over 5 mins walk to the Acropoli metro station and between 20 to 30 mins walk to the Acropolis itself. We booked a double room but were allocated a room with twin beds. On the 2nd day when a double was available we were surprised to discover that it was smaller than the twin room which we thought was not possible as the twin was failry small. The bathroom had to be one of smallest I've ever seen and the double's bathroom was the same size so I guess this could be the same throughout the hotel. Breakfast was nice but did not change once in the week whilst we were there. The staff were all friendly and helpful. For the money it was ok not great but I think this is more a reflection of Greek standards not the Philippos directly.

Awesome Hotel in Best Area
Philippos Hotel is located literally steps away from the New Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis! Views from the balcony of our room overlooked the Parthenon and beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was very good and the staff was very helpful with everything from getting our internet to work to questions about how to get from here to there... We stayed here both at the beginning and end of our trip and would highly recommend anyone to stay there.

Everything that a tourist would like to see is easily within walking distance, or else take the metro to it, which is also steps away.

Good value for the money
This hotel advertises air conditioning but it is not turned on until the end of June. It was 86 degrees when we arrived and no air. Bring your own wash cloth. They are not supplied. You will also need a electrical adapter for your small electrical applicances. As a whole the hotel rooms are clean but small and the hotel staff is very helpful. Breakfast surpassed all the other hotel breakfasts we encountered on our trip they supplied all types of breads, cheeses, eggs, fruits, juices, cereals, meats, yogurt just about anything you would want. The hotel is in a great location. And on a quite street. In walking distance of most sites. We would recommend this hotel for singles and couples.

Perfect for no-nonsense, budget traveler
Great location! You can see the Acropolis from the street! The staff was friendly and helpful and breakfast in the morning was handy. I'd classify it as "continental breakfast plus" and it's available until 10am which is nice for those who enjoy the evening's out and a little ouzo the night before! It really is within walking distance of many sites, but the metro is available too. If you arrive via metro, make sure you already have directions to the hotel. It's not far, but they're doing some construction in the area and it can be confusing. Check out the tour brochures at the front desk, the one day cruise's highlight is Hydra. They provide bus transportation from/to the hotel so you don't have to deal with traffic (crazy!) or public transportation. A single room is really small and simple, but I was in Athens for the siteseeing so all the extras weren't important to me. Some rooms had balconies overlooking the street which would be nice in summer.

Money-saving tip:
Not Applicable
Buy the 3-euro Metro ticket and ride on it for 24 hours instead of the one trip, 1-euro fare. Don't forget to validate it as you enter. Trains are frequent and transfers are easy so you can see a few sites in one day. But be careful, many sites close at 2pm in the off-season. You'll be walking, climbing and standing all day so save your feet for the fun stuff.
