One of the most sumptuous archaeological sites of Greece is the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, south-east of Athens. The Grecotel Cape Sounio literally clings to a pineclad hillside with panoramic views over this ancient monument. Behind the hotel is the Sounio National Park, one of the few remaining green spaces in the Attica province. Below the hotel are two bays which can be reached via tunnels. The buildings are designed as an amphitheatre allowing breathtaking views on the Temple of Poseidon and the sea from most guestrooms and public areas. Hotel is also providing free breakfast to their guests.

Area description
Attica, the province around Athens, is the ideal holiday resort for everyone; from those who love to walk in the countryside to those who worship the sun and the sea. The fascinating scenery with 5,000 years of history, together with the Greek culture and versatile landscapes are what makes this region so special. The small coastal town of Lavrio just 9km away from Cape Sounio offers a wealth of interesting areas to explore, such as the classical town hall built in 1864 and the indoor market or the ancient town of Thorikos with the oldest theatre in Greece.

Very inconsistent experience

Even if they say that is an exclusive resort, the high number of family with kids makes you believe that your are on a public beach (they even allow people from outside the resort and the beach is not cleaned daily). The reception staff were kind of rude with us, contrarily from the other staff that were extremely nice. I really need to thank again to Vasilis from the beach bar and to George from the a la Carte restaurant, they were the guys that made my overall experience acceptable. The food in the restaurants was average. Don't recommend a longer than 4 days stay as you will get really bored.

Paradise by the Sea

A fantastic experience at a seaside resort. Our bungalow overlooked the sea and the Temple of Poseidon. The breakfast excellent and was a great chance to sample the Greek cuisine.
