Novotel Munich
This is a very high class hotel, convenient to the airport. We took the bus, #635 from the terminal to the hotel and back. The hotel is located across the street from the bus stop. It costs 1.20 Euro per person each way. Our room was comfortable, clean and practical. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a final night stay prior to departing by air or to be away from downtown.. The breakfast buffet is way over price at 18 Euro, but on a par with other nice hotels. However, the dinner menu was reasonably priced. The S Bahn is within walking distance for a trip into downtown.

Take the S Bahn to Marienplatz which is in the heart of everything in downtown Munich. It's about a 40 minute trip. Within walking distance to the Glockenspiel, Hofbrau Haus and the Kaufhof department store. Other historical places are very near this area.

Short walk from hotel
To get to the Hotel hop off the train (S1/S8) at the Flughafen Besucherpark‎ Station (Parking Station) - it's then only a 5minute walk to the hotel. This is quicker than going to the terminal and catching the shuttle bus back to the hotel. Directions are sign posted.

Better option then Kempinski
If you need to stay next to the airport you should choose Novetel. It is much much more cozy than Kempinski (your second option). The hotel's restaurant is OK, but way overpriced. Spend your money in Airbrau or EDEKA supermarket (both located inside the terminal after baggage claim). Overal Novotel is a good deal, but only for transit purpose. Not for turists.

Do not take taxi from the airport. Use the public transportation. The bus leaves from the front of the terminal 2 (next to the taxi stop), 10min bus ride costs 1.25 euro per person (one way). The bus stops in front of the Hotel.

I traveled with an employee of my company and a my banker; and we all found it to be a superb facility near the airport that is better than we have experienced in the past. Clean, modern, friendly, at a very fair price. What more can you ask for in a hotel? Thanks

You should have your own shuttle bus service to the airport that picks you up at the door. I packed my coat for the trip home to America and it was chilly standing on the corner so long.

Nice, modern, comfortable hotel. Well insulated (no airport noise) and well air conditioned. Convenient to Munich airport; take 635 bus at airport for a couple of Euros to bus stop at hotel; saves over expensive taxi ride.

quiet and convenient
the hotel was quiet and convenient to the airport...gave us a smoking room so be sure to specifically ask for nonsmoking if you don't want smoking...not much in the way of foods choices in the off hours...close to metro to get to downtown Munich

The hotel was really clean and comfortable. There was a nice bar there too. There is no shuttle to the airport, but a public bus. There are no stores near by, so if you wanted a bottle of water, you would have to pay a fortune from the room bar.

Excellent airport business hotel
This is a beautiful, modern, immaculately clean business hotel. I worked a few hours at my desk. The internet is blazingly fast, and the room is a fine example of Euro design. New flat panel is mounted on a swing arm, with HDMI, VGA, USB ports easily available so it can be used as a monitor if you have a cable. The bed is very comfortable, and the bathroom is sparkling, well supplied, and well lit. The restaurant is very cool, with good food. I will stay here again on a stopover.

The 635 bus leaves every 20 minutes. You can easily take it from the airport or from the hotel. It costs 1.20 EUR and you can pay the bus driver. A cab would be about 10 EUR.

Good, new, hotel close to Munich airport
This hotel is close to the airport but not within walking distance from the terminal. You have to take a short bus trip to it: buses run from the airport at the rate of 3 per hour. (Alternatively, you can take a taxi, but unless you have a great deal of luggage, the bus is perfectly convenient; it cost just 1.20 euros each way.) This is a new building and the facilities were quite excellent. The price I paid was remarkably low (less than 100 euros per night), considering the quality of the rooms. I would certainly stay there again if I needed a place close to Munich airport.

This is an airport hotel, so shopping and the town center are quite a distance away. It is best suited to people either spending an overnight stay between flights or who have a flight leaving early in the morning.
