One night at Oktoberfest

Would not recommend Sun, Sep 27, 2015
Not a bad hotel at all... nice lobby and a location very close to Central Train Station and Oktoberfest grounds, which made it convenient. The room was a little aged or tired in appearance and decor. A structural pillar got in the way at times, and the bathroom, while clean and nice, was pretty small. The crampiness of it, if that's even a word, was enhanced by the angled ceiling. The odd arrangement of the shower/tub made it virtually impossible to shower without spraying water all over the bathroom. Despite being in serious need of upgrade or renovation, the room was quite clean. The bed was firm, and almost cheap feeling, but did nicely nonetheless. The hotel used standard metal door keys, instead of a modern electronic key lockcard system, which meant trudging around trying to keep track of a physical key and fob instead of simply having another card to shove in your wallet. It also meant to had to remember to lock the door when you left, as it was not self-locking. I opened the windows to have some fresh air in, as I couldn't figure out how to make the A/C work... the thermostat appeared to be quite old and it was unclear whether it was for A/C or only for heat. But temps were moderate, so it wasn't really that critical at the time. Open windows meant sound coming from the outside. my windows faced the inner courtyard, and there was very loud whooping and hollering from nearby partiers until wee hours of the morning. Luckily, it didn't really stop me from sleeping, but I simply note this for others who might like quieter conditions. The final annoying issue was that the power went out IMMEDIATELY when you removed the key fob card from the little power activator switch by the door (a power saving feature common to most hotels these days.) That meant I had to somehow get the key into the keyhole to unlock the door (key was required from the inside as well) in darkness... or using any light that might be coming through the window. Since I was departing at 5am, I was in the dark. Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend the hotel as a 1st choice, but it would probably work well in a pinch. BTW, the promised WIFI didn't work while I was there. I don't believe it is accessible from the rooms (not from mine, at least... no signal at all), but it was supposedly usable in the lobby. I got a passcode and could connect to the access-point, but it was not really working with the Internet at that moment, or for the next 30 minutes. There was a laptop machine and printer available for free use in the lobby as an alternate.

Frequent guest. Location is perfect.

Would recommend Sun, Aug 16, 2015
I've been a frequent guest at this hotel. To date I think I've stayed there around five times. The hotel shines with friendly service, clean rooms, and it's location is literally across the street from the central train station. While the rooms are quite small and they can be stuffy as well, for a mid-range place to rest the Drei Loewen is up to the task. The pricing is reasonable too which is always attractive. Since most travelers will take advantage of the great transit system that Munich has, it just makes sense to the near the hub of it which is the Hauptbahnhof. You can walk out the door of the hotel and within around 100 feet there is an entrance way with escalator that takes you into the underground walkway to the train/subway station/food shops. If you seek a larger, comfy room for relaxing while lounging the day away, you might seek a hotel with a bit quieter location. Also the rooms are pretty small too so for couples that might be a consideration to look elsewhere. I've always been a single traveler, so the space suits me fine since my days my days in Munich are spent out and about.

A decent hotel that is close to everything

Would recommend Sat, Jul 4, 2015
Okay, this is not a 4-star hotel but 3-star! The hotel is clean and the double rooms are big enough for one or two people. The airconditioner didn't work in the peak of July heat so this is a minus. The internet was down initially but the young male staff sorted it out and he's very helpful. Step outside the hotel and you are right in the thick of things as far as Munich is concerned food, culture, nightlife and sightseeing. I did not have breakfast in the hotel as there are loads of options in the area. The location is pretty safe, multicultural, colorful and exciting. I don't know if I'll stay in the hotel again but I'll definitely be back in Munich. Great city, lovely people!

Nice room, big (cold) bathroom, good location

Would recommend Sat, May 18, 2013
I chose this hotel for price and being near the main train station. The street had some casinos and strip bars but seemed safe enough at night. An S-Bahn entrance is nearby too. Bathroom was bright and big, great shower but the second morning the water was only warm. Bathroom had a radiator heater but it was not enough for me, keep the door closed and heat builds up a little. I was there early May, it was cold and rainy outside. BEd was good for one, nice warm blankets. Flat screen TV but the only English was Bloomberg and BBC. It was funny to see Big Bang Theory in GErman tho. I did not use the restaurant, buffet breakfast was 15 Euros. I went to the train station for most of my meals, Yorma, Dean & David, etc. Next to the hotel entrance is Ali Baba, doner and kabobs, nice fod but I'm not crazy about lamb. Water there was only 1.5 Euros. Staff were helpful and polite, but very GErman (formal). One internet laptop in teh lobby, with a printer. Free for guests.

Dining

Eat at the train station. All kinds of food - except western breakfast. Mostly sandwiches, pretzls, pizza. Good place to talk to locals and other travelers.

Great experience at the Hotel Drei Loewen

Would recommend Sat, Sep 29, 2012
My wife and I had a great stay at the Drei Loewen. The Hotel is ideally located. It is a 5 minute walk from the central train station. If you are in Munich for the Oktoberfest, it is only a 15 minute walk to the Oktoberfest grounds. In fact, many tourist activities are in walking distance - shopping, beer halls and beer gardens, historical sights, various sightseeing opportunities, etc. The bar is very small - just a couple of bar stools in the lobby area. There is a nice seating area though for those wanting a nightcap. The hotel was very very clean. We stayed 7 nights and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The room was great. Like many hotels in central Munich, there is no air conditioning. We stayed in late September and the weather was very pleasant, so the lack of a.c. was no problem. There are casinos and mens clubs nearby. But this did not cause us any concern at all. We never felt unsafe no matter the time of day/night. You will find that casinos and mens dance clubs are just a part of this entire central Munich area, no matter where you stay. If we ever return to Munich, we will stay at the Drei Loewen.

Dining

If you want to visit beer halls/beer gardens, do some research and you will find many just a short walk away - Augustiner Keller (our favorite), Hofbrauhaus (a must visit), Augustiner Braustuben (draft horses stabled here during Oktoberfest), Lowenbrau Keller, Paulaner Brauhaus, beer garden at the outdoor market and more. We visited all of these and had a great time at all of them.

I think this hotel is a good 3 star and not a 4 star. I was told there was air conditioning, when it didn't work, I was told there was no air con, then told there was air con but it didn't work - very strange! The room offered to me had 2 windows, one couldn't be opened as it just looked onto a brick wall, the other one could be opened cause this brick wall was about 2 feet away. The hotel did change my room and provided a fan but this is not the level of service I expect from a 4 star hotel. The shower was also blocked and didn't drain properly

Friendly and helpful staff.

The hotel was within walking distance to the Marienplatz and very close to the train & subway system. Avoid the rooms at the rear because of a Youth Hostel Hotel. Very noisy and up all hours. The front desk staff complimented us with a buffet breakfast for our trouble. Overall a good stay, large, clean & comfortable rooms.

we sought a clean safe quiet place to rest. This place fit the bill perfectly, so we decided to return in a few days. The management offered the same price as we had gotten from [...]. A deal.

Dining

Right around the corner, across from the Bahnhof, was a schnitzel restaurant with very good prices. Also, the "street weenies" at the end of the tracks in the Bahnhof are very good German brauts, if that is what you seek.
