Welcome to the *Hotel Am Markt* The house has been built in 1897 as a fish market. Behind the building , there was a little creek in which fresh fish was kept for the daily customers. The dining room of the hotel tells a little bit of this history with its hand-crafted doors, some frescos and the marble-plated walls. Today, the hotel offers nice rooms with simple and clean equipment for every demand. The location is in the very heart of the ancient centre of Munich. The distance to the town hall and the main station for the underground is only 300 metres. All points of interest in Munich are within walking distance or can easily be reached by public transportation. Our suite with its almost 100 sq. metres offers a unique feeling of comfort for 2-4 persons. It offers a living room with dining corner, 2 bedrooms, a balcony with terrific view over Munich, a full bathroom with bathtub, an extra toilet and a full kitchen. I would not recommend this hotel!!!!!!!!

I had a horrible experience at the Hotel AM Markt. We booked our reservations on-line at [...] The reservation was for a double room with a private bathroom. The charge for the one night stay was 74 Euros. I thought it was too good to be true but booked it anyways. Well it was. We got to the hotel and the staff was rude and did not want to give us the room for the price. We were put in a tiny room. We were lucky that the bathroom had clean towels. There was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom. We ate dinner next door at the adjoining restaurant. It was okay. They had entertainment which they conveniently added the charge to our dinner bill. The entertainment was very loud and they need to take a few voice lessions. They were off key. It was like a night club and not a restaurant. The next morning the manager/owner of the hotel checked us out. He was so mean and rude. He gave us a very hard time about the price of the room. I asked him to divide the charge of the room between my traveling companion and myself...he refused. I have friends that will be making reservations for Oktoberfest next year and I will tell them not to book their reservation at this hotel. The manager/owner needs to take a class in customer service!!!!!!!!

Great value in the center of Munich

This hotel is ideally located in the heart of Munich, right of the main square and next to an outdoor market with great quick meal options. As a budget-conscious traveler, I wanted a good location at a reasonable price. This hotel was one of the best values I found. Friendly staff, clean rooms and bathroom (I used the shared bathroom on the floor). And a good breakfast in the restaurant attached. The only downside I can think of is there was no Internet terminal in the hotel. I found only one Internet cafe a few minutes away that was open nearly 24 hours, but always more convenient when it's in the hotel. About a straight 15~20 min walk to the train station, and less than 5 minutes to most of the typical tourist sites. The hotel is also right on the edge of a great neighborhood (Glockenbach), with non-touristy restaurants and shops.
