Great Hotel in Munich
Doctor Klein Oct 19, 2009
The Hotel had very good service, great location w prox. to sites and very convenient to the airport. Also it offers an ... excellent breakfast( which was included w the room) and a very comfy bed as well. All this 4 A VERY REASONABLE PRICE. Please note, we stayed at the boutique hotel called Flemmings in Munich the previous week. It was twice the price and half as good

3 stars for a 5 star hotel

This is truly a great hotel for a number of reasons. The price was outstanding compared to hotels in the city centre just 2 ... subway stops away. The staff was extremely courteous, professional, friendly, and responsive. The room was spacious and clean, with modern furniture, comfortable beds, a nice-sized desk/work area, and a wide-screen TV. Our 8 year old son stayed for free. The hotel is located within walking distance of the Deutsches Museum which is a must-see. It is next door to the Gasteig which is the home of the Munich philharmonic. There is an S-Bahn train/subway stop right outside the front door of the hotel so getting around anywhere in or out of town is simple. The train to and from the airport drops you off right at the hotel because of this fact. Within short walking distance there are numerous delicious and varied restaurants including German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese (sushi), and even Afgani cuisine. The surrounding area is very safe to walk around at night. The hotel also has a restaurant at which we ate for a breakfast buffet which was quite delicious but pricey (and not included in the room price). There was wireless internet access available for a fee in the rooms and in the lobby of the hotel. I cannot stress how great the location of this hotel is. It is out of the whole touristy area and thus quieter and less pricey, but it is only 2 subway stops away from that area (Marienplatz) and it only takes about 3 minutes to get there by subway. I only had 2 complaints about the hotel, 1 minor and 1 major. The minor complaint was that the shower curtain stank horribly. The staff changed the curtain immediately, which was great. The major complaint is that the rooms are not air conditioned. We knew this when we booked our reservation and figured it would not be a problem in October, but for the first half of our stay the weather was summer-like and it was very hot and stuffy in the room. I was sweating and uncomfortable at night. I can't imagine what it would be like in July and August. For me, this is a deal breaker unless I'm in town from November to May. That is why I am giving the hotel only 3 stars. If they had air-conditioning it would be 5 stars for sure. If you don't care about the heat, then by all means this would be a great hotel at which to stay.

Purchase a 3 day "Partner" pass for the subway. Allows you to utilize the subway unlimited within a specifc zone. We used this to get to most of the city's attractions near/in the city center.

In city center, easy transit to airport
The Kid Jun 24, 2009
We chose an "executive room" for about US$40 extra per night and it was worth it. The lounge on the executive floor serves ... breakfast, cakes in the afternoon, appetizers in the evening, and beverages throughout the day. We ate out mostly but it was really nice to have the breakfast and beverages included. We're not impressed with the "free internet access" in the lounge, which was only on the one PC--not wireless. You have to pay for wireless (even for the executive room), which is apparently the norm still in Germany. The room is spacious for European standard with a good sized desk, a chair, and a comfy lounger chair. The hotel is in a quiet part of the city center (NOT at Marienplatz). We walked to the nearby sights and took the S-train, with a station directly underneath the hotel, to connect with the U-bahn (underground metro), which takes you absolutely everywhere in the city. Don't worry about the S-train not running as frequently as the metro--with 8 train lines all connecting to the main metro hubs we never waited for more than two minutes for a train! You do have to walk a distance for the connection (all underground), but it's not too far and is typical of "big city" metro systems. The really nice thing is that you can take one S-train directly from the hotel to the airport--all "indoors" and no transfer.

No Air Conditioning / Great Location
Travel Guy Jun 2, 2009
I hesitated in rating this hotel a '3' only because during our stay at the end of May, we realized the hotel had no air ... conditioning and the temperature in our room was unbearable. When we asked the front desk about our complaint we were only offered a desk fan. Beware when booking during hot/warm months. Other than that, the location of this Hilton is EXCELLENT! It is only two subway stops from the city center. If arriving from the airport, you can take the S8 train directly to the hotel (35 minute ride) In addition, the subway stop is directly below the hotel, so no worries on dragging your luggage around. There are plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Hotel staff was average, as it was hard to communicate with the staff, and most of the concierge staff was rude and condescending. If we were not so uncomfortable in our room due to the heat, this hotel would have easily gotten a 5 star rating!

Super Convenient
Travel Globally, Drink Locally. Jun 1, 2009
Briefly; this is a new, modern hotel super convenient to Munich Transit - is on top of an S-Bahn stop (you don't even have to ... go outside to catch a train). You can be in the heart of the old city (Marienplatz) in 10 minutes. It is also on the line (S8) that goes directly to the airport (30-50 minutes depending on how long you wait for a train). The concierges were helpful even for basic tourist stuff. The hotel has all modern fixtures, conveniences, internet, flatpanel tv, etc. On the downside, (personal preference) the mattress was too firm, and the mini-bar was overpriced even for a minibar.

If you're in Munich, and someone want's you to go to the Hofbrauhaus, go, look at it, maybe even go in just to say you did, but when it's time to eat or drink, realize that it's a parody of itself; then walk across the street to Ayinger. The beer, service, and food are all better. Alternative; go to Augustiner (keller or restaurant) on Neuhauser Str.

Great location
Lucien Dec 30, 2008
We arrived at the hotel straight from the airport, using local S-bahn train. The hotel sits right on top of a station! What ... is more, the distance to the center of the city can be easily covered walking. If you don't want to, you can take the same train. The room was very clean, with all the necessary amenities in place. It was kept clean, too. One of the best things about the hotel was breakfast - a very large buffet full of different options. I'm sure everybody would find something for themselves there.

Nice neighborhood feel
Mary Aug 30, 2008
A little off the beaten track, but a nice neighborhood feel. Close to the Deutsches Museum and the S=bahn station (which ... made it easy to navigate around the city). Easy access to and from the airport via the S-bahn train S-8. If you have Executive Level access, the amenities are fabulous -- great breakfasts and cocktail hour(s). The little sidewalk cafe Bella Italia nearby was also excellent.

Many great little sidewalk cafes a block or so away at the Roseheimer Platz. Excellent food at reasonable prices.

Expensive high speed internet
Kristinn Feb 6, 2008
The Hilton Munich City has direct access to Rosonheimer Platz, one of the S-bahn stops. You can take either S1 or S8 from the ... airport. S8 takes about 30 minutes and S1 about 45 minutes. The sticker shock came when I connected with wifi. It is 27 Euros for 24 hours if you want VOIP and VPN. They have a degraded service for only :-) 12 Euros a day. If you get access to the Executive suite on the 5th floor, you can get food and drink and access to one computer with internet access, but it is heavily used during peak hours.
