Hotel Koenigshof

Super friendly and helpful staff. They were the best! The room was clean and comfortable in addition to being a triple. We also loved how close it was to the train station! First room of our trip that the air conditioner actually worked and they have free wi-fi and still cost less than most of our other accomodations!

Hotel Koenigshof is an excellent choice when using Mainz (rather than the city of Frankfurt) as an easy place to get to the Frankfurt Int'l Airport. Trains leave every half hour for the airport -a 30 minute trip; the hotel is perpendicular to the platz in front of the railroad station---an easy two minute walk even with all kinds of luggage. The rooms are clean, bright and good-sized; the desk is staffed 24 hrs. a day--the staff friendly and English speaking. With directions, it is easy to get to the city center--with the wonderful Gutenberg Museum and lovely, high-end shops and restaurants near the Dom.

We wanted a place close to the Mainz train station so we could easily get back to the Frankfurt train station. This was a perfect spot. It only took about 20 minutes. We only had one night but it was close enough to the old city and shops that we easily walked there. We were able to sit at a couple of outdoor cafes, watch people, and have a beer and coffee. The area around the hotel has a lot of activity in the evening but not obnoxious. We even slept with the window open and we were on the first floor. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The place is clean, especially the bathroom, but it is a little outdated. Having said that, the beds were comfy, the wi-fi was free and the breakfast was great. We were surprised. It included scrambled eggs, bacon, cheeses, cold meats, cereals, yogurt, juices, breads and rolls, coffee, and tea. You can also make an expresso or cappucino. We got a smoking room which was a little stinky. We did not request a non-smoking room which we should have done. I assume they have some. So for one night it was fine.
