An enigma

The location is in Germany's version of Little Tokyo, not exactly bustling with action, but is conveniently located in walking distance between the train station and the much more tourist friendly Ko River and Alstadt areas. The hotel itself was clean and modern, but was missing key elements that make a pleasant stay. The bed had two small pillows and an even smaller comforter. Our room was booked for two people so I'm not sure why we would have bedding that only covered one person. So while we enjoyed the city of Dusseldorf away from the hotel, we also got our worst night of sleep of our European vacation. The front desk was very friendly and probably could have helped us find more appropriate bedding if we had the energy to deal with it. The point is, you shouldn't have to ask at a higher rated hotel. Also charging 24.50 euro for wifi was ridiculous.

Great location but not much else

Thee hotel is a short walk to both the main shopping st (Konigsallee) and Dusselsdorf's main train station. So if you're looking for convenience, it's good but if you're looking for anything else, I wouldn't book here. It's 5 star rating is very misleading. There is no free Internet, it costs 32 cent a minute! To use the spa facilities is €15 just to get in, then you pay for your treatment on top of that! Not to mention, breakfast which cost €23 per person per day! The room are small and very outdated and a bit shabby. On our last morning the cleaning staff knocked persistently on our door at 8.30am so they could check the best before date on the little pots of UHT milk! Also, I was going to watch a movie in the room until I saw it was €16 for an old release. On the upside, the foyer of the hotel is ok and the staff are pleasant but I definately won't be returning. There are plenty of other hotels in Dusseldorf to choose from.

Unexpected experience (not too good)

Hotel building and location very good. The room needed improvement. Toilet was running, trash can was defective -would not open, TV English channels stopped working after the first day and could not be fixed, were expecting breakfast including - but was not offered. The rate for a 1 local phone call was listed in the room 0.60 cents but were charged E5.75! To use the Spa and the pool you have to pay Euro 15! Really... NOT ENJOY IT

An embarrassment to the brand

I have enjoyed stays at other Nikko Hotels and have come to expect a certain amount of service. When I arrived at the hotel, already late for the wedding I flew in to attend, there was a long line at the desk and only one attendant. When I finally made it to the front, I was informed that there was no record of my reservation - despite my showing them the receipt and confirmation number - and that I would have to wait for a manager, as they could not give me a room. I had to change clothes in the bathroom and leave for my wedding. When I returned in the middle of the night, the person at the desk very curtly handed me a key, with no apology for the inconvenience. No one - not even the doormen - offered to help with my suitcases, and I had two, very heavy ones. The room itself was bare minimum, with not even so much as a complimentary bottle of water. I had intended to stay an extra two days, but welcomed the opportunity to switch hotels - in the end, I found a much more hospitable, cozier place for a fraction of the price. I have learned my lesson!

needs updates

The room I stayed in had a lingering smoke smell despite being a non smoking room. It also had very small uncomfortable beds. This hotel looked like it hasn't been updated since it was built. It feels more like a motel than a hotel. If you are looking for any type of luxury, modernism, or fanciness, then this is not the place for you.

Nice Hotel - Better hotels cheaper!

Nice clean hotel, friendly staff and rooms were spacious enough, We were looking forward to a dip in the pool advertised on the hotel website, however at €15 per person was terrible - Needless to say we didn't go. Apart from that hotel was of good standard about 5 minute walk from the main railway station in Düsseldorf. A visit to Düsseldorf is definitely a must to visit the Christmas Markets which are amazing! Although a hotel closer and of the same quality would probably cost less. 3/4* at the most!
