What you would expect
Walking distance to all the major points of interest, and a short walk to the main subway station. The rooms are somewhat uninspired, though well maintained. The central atrium is impressive. It is unfortunate that they feel the need to charge for WiFi internet access. It should be included in the high price.

Vegetarians should try "Cookies Cream" which is literally in the concrete alley behind the hotel where people are welding vehicle parts. You will think you are in the wrong place, but you are not. It's a very hip hangout with very good vegetarian food. Make sure to make a reservation, it fills up on weekends.

Spotty Service
Great location but service was spotty at best. No one to greet you at the door, dishes were not picked up from room, and the entire hotel smelled like dog excrements.

The Westin Grand, Berlin
The location of this hotel was near perfect for us. The main entrance is just off Friedrichstrasse, a block away from Unter den Linden and within steps of the Franzosische Strasse subway station. The hotel itself is beautiful & the staff was at every level pleasant and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was not included in our package, but there are of lots of places to get food & drink. The area is tony, with many high-end shops, and it is within easy walking distance of the Brandeburger Tor, the Reichstag, the Holocaust Memorial, the Gendarmenmarkt, Checkpoint Charlie & plenty more. There is a grocery store in the Friedrichstrasse train station, & all the local restaurants we tried were very good. By international standards, this place is a supreme bargain.

Nice hotel
The Westin Grand Berlin was nice. Our room was pretty far from the elevator. The breakfast was too expensive, but we found other places to go close by. It was convenient to many museums & a U Bahn stop was just out the door.

Time-saving tip:
Not Applicable
We ordered ground transportation thru Orbitz, but they did not show up at the airpost when we arrived & I was not able to reach them by the German Phone # provided, so we took a cab, which was less than the amount we had paid. The U Bahn stop outside the hotel was the U6, which goes to Tegel, so that would have been a big savings, had we known that. (The company did show to take us to the airport at the end of our trip, and the car & driver were very nice.)

Perfect location, Fantastic staff, Lovely hotel
This was my first visit to Berlin and I really enjoyed staying at the Westin Grand Berlin. Comfortable rooms, very attentive and friendly staff and most importantly, a prime location in the heart of Mitte. 90% of the attractions I wanted to see were within a 10-15 minute walk. Very good, if pricey, lounge. My only gripe is the lack of free (or rather, price-included) wireless internet. I would preferred paying extra for a feature like this in advance instead of 19 Euros a day upon check-out. Nevertheless, it was a lovely stay and I'd recommend the hotel highly to all.

Short walk from hotel
Museum Island feature some of the best archeological museums in the world. Certainly on par with the British Museum and the archeological part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Pergamon museum and the Neus museum (home of the Nefertiti bust) are not to be missed. The nearby DDR museum and Germany History Museum were also very, very good.

comfort in Berlin
we explored Berlin for ten days, actually not enough time if you love great museums and 20th century history. Staff wonderful, helpful, efficient, attentive. Only drawback is that the pool is a little claustrophobic, gloomy, even a little chilly.

Buy breakfast supplies in the Friedrichsstrasse Bahnhof supermarket a few blocks north of the hotel and store these items (OJ, cheeses, rolls, etc.) in the room minibar. There is also a Dunkin'Donuts and a Mc Donalds enroute if you prefer.

Great location, mysterious past
Great location, few minutes walk from the Brandenburg Gate. The hotel used to be THE hotel for the "Stasi" (East German secret police). Kind of cool to imagine old spies wandering the halls.

Great hotel.
We were only in Berlin for 2 days but this hotel was perfect for our stay. It is situated between all the main tourist attractions in old East and West Berlin. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We needed the name of a good place to eat and they came up with several suggestions and picked one for us that was convenient to the hotel so we didn't have to travel far. The room was very nice and relaxing. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in Berlin.

Sightseeing tip:
Long walk from hotel
West of Check point charlie and south of Potsdamer Platz is one of the longest sections of the Berlin Wall still standing. I would recommend walking the extra distance to see it because it gives you a true sense of what life must have been like during the cold war. There is also an outdoor museum depicting life during the period below the wall.
