Papeete Vacation

Comfortable and pleasant room with a good view but the roar and crashing of the ocean was very loud and constant all night long. Internet was available but only in the lobby and was sporadic at best. The on property restaurant was expensive and only so-so in quality. Staff was friendly and helpful. Property has a large, beautiful pool and good outdoor seating close to the black sand beach. Strong currents in the ocean so only pool swimming recommended.

For those on a budget with a car, there is a McDonalds located a couple of miles from the hotel. We ate there a couple of times to keep meal costs low.

Pleasant, not spectacular

My impression may be a bit skewed due to the monsoon conditions during my brief stay...This hotel has several different buildings, and mine being the furthest from the lobby, the only place where wireless internet was available. Room was just okay, bed not spectacular...shower was messy since there was a non-movable shower 'partition' and no curtain. Did not use the in-room jacuzzi tub due to the weather, but I imagine it would have been pleasant to open up the shutters and enjoy the view while soaking in that tub. Probably a decent value for Tahiti if you book way in advance and get a better rate

Tahiti in February

The Radisson is a bit old but has an excellent location. It is surrounded by residential areas and there are no shops or resturants nearby. Be prepared for very high prices in the resturant. The sun is VERY HOT in February even though the air temperature is 86 degrees, it feels much hotter in the sun. The Radisson is a good place to "get away from it all" if that is what you want to do.

Take the hotel's shuttle bus into the marketplace downtown. Nothing else is in walking distance.

Super knowledgeable, caring staff! Great Place to start and end your trip to French Polynesia!

My daughter and I started our trip to French Polynesia here.....and were SO very pleased with the entire staff at this hotel, that we ended up making reservations to return here for a final five days before leaving French Polynesia. The person at the hotel hospitality desk ("Ramona") helped plan our entire trip around the islands, and we now have a lifetime of memories from places we would never have found without her help. DEFINITELY a place to STAY if you want to be treated like ROYALTY!!!

This hotel is about 15 mins drive

This hotel is about 15 mins drive from central Papeete on the north coast. About 20 mins from airport. We stayed one night between a cruise and our flight onward. We got a good deal thru Hotelclub - much cheaper than rack rate or other similar hotels in Tahiti. Room was very roomy and spacious with lovely beach/sea view - only gripes were a rather high climb into bath/shower - bit difficult for older people. Also had to go to restaurant to get milk as none supplied with coffee/tea in room. Eating was very expensive (same as all hotels in French Polynesia), but we were recommended to Le Belvedere Restaurant high up on a mountain with fab views over Papeete. Cheaper than Radisson and they provided free transport each way.

The rooms were good, a lot of

The rooms were good, a lot of space. Most staff were friendly. The location was nice, although it was a bit difficult to get into the city. There are free shuttle services which is good but not as frequent as we liked. The highlights was the amazing pool and the view and access to Lafayette beach.

We stayed two nights at the Radisson,

We stayed two nights at the Radisson, upon our arrival and before our departure. We had booked standard rooms and were were upgraded the first night to a king jacuzzi, the second to a queen duplex. The hotel is very beautiful, architecturally, well-kept gardens, the best pool we saw in Polynesia - and we stayed in 4 different high-end hotels. We would only say the rooms are starting to look tired, but, probably, a major renovation would cause the rate to go way up. We paid USD 156 per night, which was less than half the rate at the cheapest hotel we stayed in the remainder of the trip. Lafayette beach is not wonderful, but with the gorgeous pool we really did not think of it. Not too close to Papeete - but then, none of the good hotels are. Food & beverage prices are comparable to other hotels' (read: expensive). All in all, we perceived great value for money, and will definitely stay there again.

Radisson Plaza Tahiti

I've stayed twice at this hotel, and while the location is beautiful (great black sand beach, nice grounds), it is far from Papeete and the airport, and taxis are very expensive. They do offer a shuttle, but only twice per day, and none in the evening. My major complaint was that during this last stay, within a couple of hours of checking in the evening, my arms and legs were covered with insect bites from both mosquitos and sand flies, which were extremely itchy. I could see them flying around the room, and found they came in freely through the closed patio door, as it was warped at the top, leaving quite a large gap. When I mentioned this to the staff, they just shrugged. Staff attitude varied greatly: some were very nice and helpful, others were indifferent to the point of being rude. This hotel is fairly new, but seems to be a victim of either shoddy construction or extreme lack of maintenance, so the overall impression is of a place that really could use some upkeep. Public areas are pleasant, but upholstery is stained, tables are chipped, ice machines don't work, etc. Internet is free in the room, as is wifi in the lobby, and there is free use of the computers in the business center. The internet is very slow, as is the case in all of French Polynesia, and large files may not download at all. I am not sure I would stay at this hotel again unless I got an extremely good deal--there are too many choices in better locations.

Food at the roulottes in Papeete is relatively inexpensive, and an experience not to be missed.
