Lousey Service and way over priced!

Room not ready at check in time. Room not made up daily. Ran out of towels, etc because hotel staff did not clean room. No bed turn down even when we called for one. Resturant service was terrible. It was like they were trying to ignore you and the prices were sky high.

tahiti

The pools are amazing, along with the views. The dinner shows are also great. Great stopping off point in tahiti before traveling to the other islands of the area. I would recomend only a couple of night stay. The other islands are just much more beautiful than Tahiti. The hotel stay was a nice ending to our 2 week vacation.

Very nice grounds

We stayed at the InterContinental's over-water bungalow for a single night at the end of our longer, 16 days trip. Very well maintained, gorgeous gardens and a very nice bungalow with everything in working order. The restaurant prices are way too high, just like in most other Tahitian resorts. Example: Continental Breakfast is about 3000 TF (nearly $40/person). Eating 3 meals at the resort for a couple could easily cost $400+ per day with no wine included. Very nice pools and lagoons on the property. The ocean was not the best place for swimming as there were a lot of fast power-boat traffic across the beach. If you are looking for better, quiet beach or good snorkeling the LeMeridian resort a few miles up the road is a much better bet. Also, given the proximity to the airport, it is not the quietest place.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Best bet is to catch the bus at the hotel's entry and pay 130 TF (about $1.50) for a short ride into Papeete for much more reasonable food prices. We also spent 5 nights in an over-water bungalow at the LeMeridian Resort. While the beach is much better there and the gardens are also very nice, the levels of maintenance of the property is less than perfect.

Ultimate resort, expensive food

Nice hotel with several different pools, including a sand bottom pool with an actual deep end deeper than 6 feet. There was also a hammock to lay out on and a real fitness center. The only dissappointment was that the room has a bit of a dated feel. And the rooms are so far from the front desk and takes a good 5-10 minute walk to get there. There was also a can of roach killer in our closet which was disturbing to see. The hotel restaurants are pretty expensive. We ate at Lotus and spent like $80 with limited drinks and still were a little hungry leaving.

The hotel can provide a shuttle to downtown Papeete for about $8/person roundtrip (800 CFP).

Intercontinental Tahiti

French Polynesia's greatest asset is its warm friendly population always ready to answer questions and help you on your way. This hotel is near the airport and has a breathtaking view of Moorea. The market and downtown areas are easily accessible by public transportation. The Royal Tahaitian Ballet gives a marvelous enactment of polynesian folklore. This may be a French island but I couldn't find a proper cafe au lait.

Great place to stay on Tahiti

If you are looking for a well appointed hotel that is fairly close to the airport, but light years away, the Intercontinental Beachcomber is the spot. The staff is friendly and the rooms and facilities are world class. The restaurants and bar have a variety and mix that will fit any budget and taste and are just right. The views from everywhere are fantastic and just what you imagine they will be when you plan your trip to Tahiti.
