Great location but room needs help

I stayed in this hotel in 2003 and had two very large room air conditioned room with a window overlooking the street. The location was within walking distance of many attractions. For instance, it is two blocks from Louvre entrance. In July, 2009 I booked two rooms due to it's location. Due to the comments listed by Orbitz customers, I chose the upgraded option. One room had a street view, small room, and a fan...no air conditioning. In order to recharge the camera either the fan or lamp needed to be unpluged. The second room was larger, faced and interior courtyard (alley), and had a floor unit air conditioner. Neither of the rooms was anything like the room I had on the earlier visit. I commented to the staff on the difference in rooms from my previous visit and the explanation was that they had only a few room like the one I had stayed in before. I also asked whether the rooms were an upgraded version and was told that all the room were superior, etc. I also viewed several other rooms that were worse than the ones we settled on. Stay here only for the location!

Good location. Poor service!

The Location of the Hotel is very good. Conveniently located near all of the major sites. The staff was not very friendly. It took them two days to move us to another room after we reported that our toilet was not working!

it barely reaches a 3 star rating

The hotel is in an awesome location but that's it! Do not expect anything else. Overall it was clean but the hotel is very old not well maintained. Management could have at least re-painted the walls and replaced sick, toilet and bath tub. Very disappointed.

Needs an update

This hotel is in an excellent location, right across the street from the Louvre and the Louvre Carousel, however, the rooms in the hotel are in serious need of a make over. The hotel is a charming old hotel with antique furniture in the bedrooms. I think it is possible for this hotel to retain its antique charm while making some modern updates. As a result, this room appeared dirty, dingy and old. The bed was very uncomfortable and it was impossible to take a shower due to problems with the water temperature. The water was either scalding hot or freezing cold. This hotel, in general, was the worst we stayed at during our 3 weeks in Europe. It is definately not worth the money, you are paying for the location.

You can sign up for a Paris by Night tour through the concierge at the hotel. The tour takes you on a bus to all of Paris' major attractions lit up. It was absolutley beautiful and only 25 Euros.

Paris Trip

Absolutely wonderful. Despite hotel rooms being somewhat outdated, the staff was very friendly, kind, and understanding for a non-French speaking visitor. I will stay at this hotel when I come back to Paris. Hotel was very clean, fabulous location, safe. Walking distance to Louvre, Ponte Neuf and metro (RER). Lots of shopping and dining nearby. Couldn't have been better.

try to speak French, once the locals know your are trying, they are very willing to help in English if they can. go to louvre either early in am or later in afternoon. Use the metro and RER...intimidating at first, but well worth learning curve

old world charm

The Normandy is a wonderful hotel, not too fancy, not too plain. The marble and wood entrance, beautiful winding staircase greet you along with a very frielndly helpful staff. Location close to Louve. The room has the charm of a hotel room you might expect in the 1930's. Large enough, good size bathroom with old fashioned large swing windows, small crystal chandelere, and radiator. The bed was a regular for two female friends that looked as if it was sinking in the middle. We were able to get a day bed (twin size) that tilted slightly to one side. Still we were comfortable. It was clean and quaint. With an investment in new mattresses, I think it would be an excellent choice.

Normandy

Great location, but hotel could do with a touch up. Room was a bit dated, and bathroom old. Character could still be maintained on the exterior while internal make-overs done. The standard doublebed room comprised 2 single beds which kept slipping apart - my wife fell in between in the middle of the night!

A Tired Hotel

The room was small. The safe in the room did not function. There was no space to unpack clothing, dresser drawers were lacking. The location is excellent, and the free breakfast is a plus. Given costs today, the price is fair. Would we stay there again? I am not certain.
