Perfect place for family trip

We had an apartment, one bedroom with twin beds, a living room with sofa bed and attached kitchen and a bathroom, which is located on the third floor (2nd in France) in the hotel. It is located just 2 minutes from Paris Austerlitz metro station and very easy to move to other place in Paris as well as to access to the old historic area on foot. With using RER Paris Austerlitz line, we could go to the Versailles palace just in about 30 minutes or so. There is a natural history museum and we can see the animal skeletons through the window. They don’t change towels everyday but provide on the request. Friendly, English-speeking Madam and Mousier. When you get there, try to arrive between 4pm to 7 pm.

Highly Recommended

- Excellent and convenient location. - Walking distance to central sights. - Easy to collect room key even though other reviews may state otherwise. Prior arrangement with the hotel is necessary. - Very close to Mouffetard district which has fantastic and extremely reasonable restaurants (c. €13 pp for trad. French 3 course meal.) - Cutlery, kettle etc, even corkscrew provided. - No air con but a very adequate fan provided.

great location

The hotel was perfect for travelers that aren't planning on spending a lot of time at their hotel. It is right next to a Metro, RER, train stop, park and food. There is a private bathroom and fridge.

The hotel is perfect for travelers arriving to Paris via train. The Metro stop is the same line for 3 train stops and is extremely close. The hotel is also right on the river for travelers that like to walk.

Experienced, self-reliant guests only

This small, do-it-yourself hotel is situated near Gare d Austerlitz, which is a convenient location. However, the hotel offers no ammenities. The instant I walked through the door, the hotel clerk slapped an envelope in my hand which contained the card key and one sheet of paper with the hotel's address, phone and fax numbers. She stated that reception was closed for the day and would reopen at 8:00 Monday morning. My request for use of a hair dryer was met, but the bathroom did not have an electrical outlet. By mistake I selected the incorrect floor when returning to my room and to my complete shock, my card key worked in another guest's room! This hotel is more like an extended residence than a guest hotel. Clean towels were only provided once during my three-night stay. The handle for the bathtub faucet fell off when trying to adjust the water temperature. Retaurants, bakeries, groceries and fast food restaurants were nearby, but there was nothing to eat or drink within the hotel - not even a vending machine. I do not recommend this hotel unless you are very familiar with Paris, you have strong French language skills, and do not need any pampering.

Hotel Du Roy was great!

The front desk clerks were friendly. We never really saw them much. The rooms and hotel were not fancy or formal; what you see is what you get. For the price it was clean, comfortable and excellently located to a major metro station and across the street from the park, zoo, and museum which is great when you have kids.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Every night we would go for a walk and there's an awesome greek restaurant that was always open, friendly and prepared us lamb gyros, sausage sandwiches, fries, etc. Great for a midnite snack.

Could have lived there.

The front desk was very helpful. The room was spacious enough with a kitchenette, which helped keep the food budget down. Hotel was across the street from Jardins des Plantes and around the corner from Gare D'Austerlitz. Many restaurants close as well as a bakery and grocery.

Spring Break in Paris

This was our first time in Europe so with nothing to compare the hotel to other than rumors about Paris hotels, this hotel was amazing. Our room had 2 twin beds, a kitchen with microwave fridge and little stove and full bathroom. It was literally less than a minutes walk to the Austerlitz metro station and from many little restaurants and a grocery store. We had wanted to walk most of the trip to save money on metro tickets so when we first arrived and went for a walk around just our neighborhood we were more than excited to learn that it was about a block from Notre Dame and about a 5-10 minute walk to the Latin Quarter. We'd recommend anyone who doesn't want to be surrounded by the noise and crowd of the center of Paris but still very close to everything to stay here!

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Take advantage of the free walking tours of Paris. The tour guides are usually students working on tips, but so well worth it! They'll show you a little bit of their Paris rather than the tourist hot spots and also show you the spots you want to see while giving history, hints and safety tips for the city (like beware of the gypsies because they are everywhere).
