Grand both inside and out, the InterContinental Paris Le Grand Hotel's Empire-style arches, gold-winged statues, and cherry wood embellishments all contribute to a true boutique feel. The glass roof of 'La Verriere' winter garden in the center of the hotel reflects the famous Louvre pyramid, and lights up at night while you polish off a French pudding in the restaurant beneath. Sip champagne and admire the painted ceilings and crown moldings of Cafe de la Paix before dinner, and work that crick out of your neck with a Polynesian massage in the I-Spa by Algotherm.

Neighborhood

The Napoleon III-commissioned Opera Garnier is just across the street from the InterContinental Hotel, so you're always steps from attending a performance or simply staring up at the 19th century architecture. The Opera Metro station is also handy here - families will be pleased to known that the Tuileries Gardens are a quick ride from the hotel, as is the Louvre Museum. For those with more flexibility, it's equally appealing to wander down to the banks of the Seine and spend the day discovering riverside cafes and independent shops.

Hints and tips

For the most enviable Parisian panoramas, request a north- or south-facing room on an upper floor or, for a quieter stay, take a room facing the courtyard.

Since the river is within easy reach, make time for a Seine dinner cruise one evening - watching the City of Light twinkle into life at night is a memory not to be missed.

Beautiful historic Parisienne hotel

Lovely old hotel well located near galleries lafayette and printemps and opera house. Easy walk to most places, lovely vibe and great restaurants and shopping nearby. But this is a pricey hotel and the room service and restaurant are very expensive. However this is offset by the ambience and the rooms are a good size and the staff are friendly and helpful. Our first room was very small and had a view of the air onditioning but we got upgraded and the next room was lovely albeit still internal view! I would stay there again. Concierge and reception very helpful and good position.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Walk the Eiffel tower as you still get the lift up to the top level and the lines for the lift are crazy. If you go to Versailles rent bikes at the bottom of the garden and ride around to see all of the other villas at the bottom of the garden. Buy your tickets to the louvre from the machines under the pyramid inside - barely any lines compared to outside.

As Grand as its name

The hotel is located conveniently a block away from the Opera House and the Opera Metro station, which is a hub of RER and Metro lines; in short, you can get anywhere in Paris from here. If you don't wish to pay the 37 Euro Breakfast fee (ouch!), there are plenty of places around to grab an omelette, pastry, whatever you prefer. Our two rooms were small but elegant, spotless, with superb bathrooms supplied with white flannel robes, slippers, plenty of towels bath and shower. The bed linens were turned down in the evenings. We were very pleased. Wifi was available but expensive, and the hotel's server didn't accommodate my e-mail, so that was an irritating discovery. The staff at the Hotel were terrific, eager to please, fluent in English, happy to make reservations or give transportation advice. The only caveat I would consider in going there again is that the area is "tourist central." Imagine having a hotel near Times Square. It's convenient, flashy, but perhaps not the most charming Parisian location. It all depends on what you want from the visit.

If you want to eat well at good restaurants, make reservations ahead of time. There are plenty of charming-looking restaurants in the L'Opera area, but you will pay tourist prices for meals that are, alas, merely satisfactory.

Intercontinental Paris -Le Grand

Our trip was very nice. The Paris Le Grande was a very nice place to stay. Very friendly and comfortable. With plenty of help from the concierges. Quite expensive though. They absolutely charge for everything. Beware of the mini bar in your room. We found that the local restaurants in the area were just fine and reasonable. Our roundtrip from the airport to hotel via taxi was good. Use the tour bus to cut down on your walking. The tours that the Hotel offered through the local tour agency were really nice. The booking through [...] had a couple of glitches but worked out o.k. in the end. All in all it was a nice trip. International security is a nightmare and my luggage was delayed. Make sure you put your name and address in your luggage also.

My review of InterContinental PARIS-LE GRAND

This is an elegant hotel, with amazing public spaces. The staff is helpful - always - and it is in a great location. Walking to most of Paris' main attractions is a glorious experience. The rooms are really small - by American standards.

Paris is acity in which you must walk for a few days, no matter how easy and convenient the subway. From the Le Grand, the Louvre is ten minutes away. Fachon & Galeries Lalfayette are easy walks for shopping.
