What a nice hotel!
mensch Dec 28, 2009
We loved this hotel! We had not been in Paris in decades and had no experience to guide us in making our selection of ... hotel. We did a lot of online looking and finally choose the Duquesne Eiffel for location, price, and ratings. The hotel was recently renovated so everything works well and is very clean. Yes, the lift is very small; yes, the room was small, but the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in in a hotel. I must say however that it was the staff who really made the hotel so very welcoming. There were gracious and helpful. One evening the night manager gave me some change that had slipped out of my pocket as I sat reading a newspaper an evening or two before without my realizing it. He had noticed me reading the paper and found the coins later; he put them in an envelope a gave them to me the next time he saw me. One small caveat--If anyone in your party is as picky as my wife is about these things you might want to suggest they bring their own hair dryer: my wife didn't like the wall-mounted-hot-air-blowing-out-the-tube unit in the bathroom. Of course she always comes armed with her own dryer so it was no big deal.

We bought the Navigo-Decouverte cards for use on the Metro/RER. They are a real Euro saver. They're only good from Monday to Sunday regardless of when you buy them. This worked well for us since we arrived on a Monday. Basically so can ride as much as you want within the zones you've purchased your card for. Take a digital photo of your face & print it since you'll need it for the ID part of the card.

The hotel was very close to several metro stations and made getting to tourist attractions very easy. Also the staff provided ... excellent reccomendations for meals close-by. The best part of our room was waking up to see Paris covered by magical fresh snow on our second morning there.

If you go to the Eiffel Tower and the long lines are discouraging, get a ticket for the elevator starting from the first platform. Take the stairs to the first platform and then go to the top on the elevator from there.

Great location. Nice and clean rooms though rather small. Would have been nice to have morning coffee or tea available with ... coffee pot in room or coffee/tea in lobby. Friendly and helpful staff. Called ahead to request a room with a view but when we arrived we were told room was not available; we were told that when one became available we would get but we never did. Otherwise enjoyed the stay.

My 3rd time to Paris. Loved the hotel and the staff bent over backwards to help you out. The only problem - no wifi in the ... rooms, had to use the lobby which could be crowded and you couldn't take a drink down with you. But other than that - fantastic hotel. Would stay there again. And - they have Leeloo a Cavalier King Charles who greets you when you come in ...

Other than the room being very small with no place to put luggage that was out of the road, it was quite nice. It was not ... clear upon checkin whether breakfast was included in the room cost or not - it was not - but i also did not ask. However, the cost of breakfast was reasonable and it was quite good.

Beat my expectations
Karebear Mom Nov 2, 2009
Just returned from a 4 day stay (late October/early November) in Paris at Hotel Duquesne at Eiffel with my 16 year old ... daughter. I read several reviews and my expectations were high, but, reasonable. The hotel didn't disappoint. When we arrived we were welcomed by the front desk staff and were duly impressed by the obviously recently updated lobby. It had a comfortable seating area, a bar and the most important thing for a teenager, a Mac computer with a huge monitor and free access to the internet. The elevator was small (barely fitting two petite ladies with 2 bags of luggage and carryons) but worked efficiently. We stayed on the 2nd floor and were pleasantly suprised that the room had a separate toilet area, bath/shower combo (funky 1/2 door on the shower) and two twin beds, a small couch and small flat screen monitor. The windows were very well insulated and offered a view of the street below. Our only complaint was that it got very warm in the late evening and the in-room thermostat didn't control the temperature. The front desk suggested opening the window. It was nice to have the fresh air; but, we didn't feel safe leaving them open overnight (we were only on the 2nd floor) and the street noise was fairly loud. The location was good, quick access to the Metro (5 min), and great for a 12-15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower. It's a fairly quiet area with limited eating options for a finicky teen. The staff was very friendly and helpful (spoke very good English). It only took one explanation of the metro for us to become truly independent at getting around town. I highly recommend Hotel Duquesne and would stay again.
Traveler type: Family
I'd recommend taking the Roissybus from CDG, get off at the Opera stop and take the Metro to Ecole-Militaire. The stairs are manageable and was the least stressful method (and frugal).

Great Hotel!
Overseas Traveler Oct 23, 2009
This hotel was in a great neighborhood and close to many sites, also close to the Metro. Only two things that I did not ... like. One was no wifi in the hotel room. My other dislike was that room service would knock even if the do not disturb sign was on the door. I would give it 5 stars if it wasnt for these two issues. (I would give it 4.5 but there is no option to do so.) Other than that it was a great stay with friendly staff and very clean rooms. We would definitely come back.

When we arriwed there after a long flight from the states they told us they don't have a room for us for some reason but they ... have made arrangement for us at another hotel. We don't think that is acceptable but we had no choice to go and see the other hotel and we ended up better because the other hotel was a bit better.Hotel Duquesne is on a noisy street and the rooms are the size of a walk in closet. The photos are missleading. They show descent size rooms but that is not what they are in reality. We don,t recommend this hotel. You can have other hotel for the same price for better value.

Perfect Stay.
Greg09 Aug 30, 2009
Perfect stay. I am a very light sleeper and the rooms are dead silent when the window is closed. The A/C could be more ... effective, but then these are not US hotels with artic A/C units. They were fine, but run 24/7 without really making the room "cold". Aside from that very small demerit, and one to be expected at many Paris hotels, the stay was perfect. Location was ideal being just 5-6 minutes from the Champs De Mars and the tower. Close Metro station - 1 minute.

The staff were very helpful in providing directions, making restaurant reservations, use of metro (for beginners). Location ... was two blocks from Metro (Ecole Militaire), two blocks from Napolean's Tomb and Eiffel Tower. Found no good restaurants nearby, but plenty of nice cafes for breakfast and lunch. Room was small, but clean and served our purposes. No individual a/c control.

Amy Aug 19, 2009
Rooms are small, but that was expected. Very clean, nicely decorated rooms. Proximity to the Metro, cafes, Rue Cler, Eiffel ... Tower. The front desk is very nice and helpful and they speak perfect English. We stayed in one of the small rooms and then also on the top floor with the balcony view. The rooms are very quiet - we never heard any other guests and the hotel was full. We also never heard any street noise. The breakfast is good, but a little pricey. It was good for days when we needed a big breakfast, but most days we just grabbed something at the bakery close by.
Traveler type: Couples
Get the museum pass. We did the 4 day pass. It saves lots of $$$, but even more importantly it saves time - you skip the line at the Louvre, Rodin, Orsay and others. You still have to wait in line for the ND tower and at Versailles.

Hotel Duquesne Eiffel Delivers!
jpb Aug 17, 2009
The Hotel Duquesne Eiffel exceeded every expectation. I arrived 3 hours before check in, extremely jet lagged. While I dozed ... in the lobby, the staff made up my room extra early so I could check in. The room itself had a view of the Eiffel Tower, if you stick you head out the window, resided on a quiet street and was pristine, well decorated and recently renovated (as was the bathroom). The new windows block out all outside sounds. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast, 12 E, was a full spread of eggs, bacon, prosciutto, cereals, baguettes, cheeses, juice and coffee made to order served in a delightful basement. This room really helped make our trip to Paris special. I would recommend it to everyone. ps. they do have elevators to reach the higher floors.

The hotel can arrange a shuttle service for you to get to the airport that is fairly reasonable. Just be sure to allow for extra time. We let the staff plan it for us, and we barely made it through all the airport lines in time- a little stressful. Be prepared for the possibility of long lines at the airport.

Having heard about all the great food in France, I was somewhat disappointed in many of the restatuarants we ate at. I came to realize that to get a really good meal for two people, you had to spend at least 100 euros. In hindsight, I would skip the mid-day meals which ended up costing at least 35-40 euros and were usually mediocre, and instead get take-out salads or sandwiches which were actually pretty good, and then splurge on the dinners. The best meal we had in Paris was one we made ourselves at an all-day cooking class conducted through he International Kitchen. Our instructor/chef (Samira) was incredible, and I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in learning how to make a 5 course gourmet meal!
--Chris, Glendale, CA Jul 23, 2009
You MUST stop by Ristorante Tina, aka Pizza Tina on the Avenue Bosquet, just a couple blocks away. Most people don't go to Paris for the Italian food, but these are authentic Italians living and producing the most excellent and reasonably priced Italian food we've had - ever.
--Tim & Rosalie, Columbus, OH Jul 15, 2009
Don't go for the hotel breakfast. I mean its ok but for 12 euro/person it pricey. Instead, head to a Boulanger, grab a pastry, then sit down for a coffee at a Cafe and eat. You do pay more for table service than drinking the coffee at the bar but you've already saved by getting your food at the bakery.
