Paris Trip July

The entire hotel staff was excellent!!They gave us precise directions on how to get to all of the sites we wanted to see. We used the metro all the time we were there. They were always willing and able to assit us in any way. They spoke english and were extremely freindly. Who says the french are not freindly??? We had a king size bed, and hot water 100% of the time just like home. I can't say enough good things about the hotel staff, and our time spent in Paris!

Pleasant place, friendly & helpful staff. Close to Rome Metro, and a fair ways from the most heavily trafficed tourist areas. This is good in a way because you're not overwhelmed with activity imediately. Good restaraunts and shops nearby. Room small by US standards, but comfortable and clean.

What a nightmare.

[...]. Although the name of the hotel sounds like it is in the opera district, but actually it is far from it in a not so nice neighborhood. The hotel is very close to the Rome metro station. From Charles Du Gaul Airport taking the RER to Metro Line 2, you must transfer at Barbes - which we learned on this trip to be the seedy part of Paris, even on a bright Saturday afternoon, my daughter was jostled and pick pocketed by a gang of 4 Gypsies. Upon checking in at the hotel, [...] the location of the hotel is less than ideal. With each metro trip having to go through the scary Barbes station, was unimaginable for a mother traveling with two children (11 & 13). At 2pm we were told our room was still unavailable, after a long trans Atlantic flight while waiting in the tiny waiting area, my daughter was in tears and wanted to go home.I decided then to go somewhere else, although I forego the four nights of stay, which I had already paid for. I didn't want to ruin our vacation, and at the last minute we were lucky enough to took into another hotel (most hotels in Paris are already booked due to high season). We took a taxi and checked into Hotel de Crillon at the Place de la Concorde, and we absolutely LOVE it. Although there is no comparison to the Hotel de Crillon, as the two are in different classes. Berne Opera is so old, outdated and the service is so BAD. We will never return, even if it was free.

My helpful hint is DON'T GO THERE, what a tourist trap. If you are used to 3 star hotels in the U.S. Berne Opera is only one star.

Quaint Place

If you want to spend all day in a hotel, then this might not be the best hotel for you... but then again if you want to spend all day in a hotel, then why would you go to Paris to do so? The hotel had all we needed, a nice size bed and a bathroom. The breakfast area was pleasant, and the hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. The room was clean, and we felt safe in the area. While the hotel does not offer the best view, it is a short walk (1-2 minutes) from a metro station, which will get you anywhere in the city. There are also nice restaurants and grocery shops nearby.

great location + hassle free services!!!

Freindly services for travel tips, great location. Only catch was the smell of paint that went on during our stay, but it wasn't so bad. Although the size of room wasn't that spacious, it was good enough for staying 3~4 days.

Great experience

I was nervous about traveling to Paris the first time alone, but being at Berne Opera helped make it a great experience. Awesome location right across the street from Rome Metro stop and walking distance from tourist attractions, shopping and dining. Great breakfast. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Minor cons include having to pay for internet and the amount of renovation going on, but they are mindful and accomodating about the inconveniences the latter creates. Oh, and bring your own hair conditioner and lotion if you care about that type of thing. Thanks, Berne Opera!

great getaway for such price!!

Most of the time, from 7AM till 8PM we were out in the city, visiting, strolling in the parks, windowshopping. We speak French currently so it is no issue or problem for us. We have the Navigo Decouverte the whole week there. Needless to say it is fabulous. The ro om has everything oh except a microwave but la bouffe we bought are fine and dont need much heating. I can write this in French if you like but US american people has to understand though. In general great stay and great price!!

Location was great and close to Metro

Hotel is in a great location half block from Metro and walking distance to a lot of attractions, Grocery store, pastry stores with in a couple of blocks. Room was small yet comfortable for two. Hotel employees were very helpful and polite. The only bad experience was at check out.the manger on duty wanted proof and a voucher that the room was paid. Showed him the receipt [...] that this was paid for in advance. He insisted we could not leave until we showed proof of payment. Our ride to the airport, which we booked [...], told the manager that this was already paid and that we should leave with him to the airport. At this time the manager on duty finally called the Hotel manager and he told the on duty manager that this has been paid. I think this was not very professional on there part.I would have recommended this to my friends and family until this indecent.

Great location and friendly staff

I stayed for 8 nights while visiting my daughter, who is studying abroad this semester, and absolutely loved being in this hotel during my time in Paris. It was just around the corner from the"Rome" Metro (Line 2) stop in the 8th district and not far from Montmartre. From the moment I arrived until I left, each staff person I encountered went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. For example: my [...]package included a boat ride on the Seine and when the manager saw my daughter with me, he gave an extra ticket to her, even though she wasn't staying at the hotel. My room was small, but comfortable with a small balcony that looked out onto the street. The bathroom was nice and had a heated towel rack. Breakfast was included with my package and there was plenty of food to choose from -- even scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon which is unusual for Parisienne breakfasts. There was a sign on the front door of the hotel that mentioned that they were in the process of renovating each floor of the hotel and I encountered workmen on the elevator from time to time, but that was not a problem for me since I spent most of my time exploring Paris during the day, so was not bothered by any noisiness of their renovations. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to other travelers in Paris.
