I did not realize how much the internet had become a part of my routine communications with family and friends. The hotel ... charged 7 euros an hour or 18 euros for twenty four hours of internet access. When trying to connect to the hotel's internet a prompt to call the front desk for an access code displayed. The process of receiving a code took about 15 minutes and was completely manual. The code received was for the wireless network and initially worked very well. Later in the evening the connection was spotty and seemed to drop randomly. I contacted the main desk for assistance and was informed there was no available wireless in the room and that the computer would have to be connected via the ethernet cable. When the code expired, the front desk had to be contacted for another. The next code received would only work if the computer was not connected to the ethernet cable. Very frustrating. For most of my travel experiences this one amenity is standard and included in the cost of the room. Here the added expense was extremely over priced. It seemed especially miserly when many other locations openly offered free service. For the cost of the room, this should have been afforded. A few calls from the states to the hotel never reached the room. The caller complained that when dialing the main hotel number no one answered at the desk. There was a charge for all local calls by the minute but no information regarding this cost was readily available in the room or listed on the website. Discovering the charge at check out was disappointing. The walk from the hotel to the main Paris attractions was more than a mile and with the weather changing constantly it was more efficient to use the metro. The location had a metro stop right in front that gave you access to the attractions and locations of interest. Easy access, understandable signs and instructions on how to get to your destinations made the metro very user friendly. There is a pastry shop just behind the hotel that served fabulous coffee and pastry every day. Business was brisk and the staff, very helpful. For 2.50 euros you could have a coffee and croissant. The room was clean and comfortable. The area around the hotel was bustling. There were several cafes to dine at near by. The weather in Paris in February was cold and damp. It rained and snowed while there. On warmer days, temperatures were in the high 30's fahrenheit and walking outside was brisk but with a good coat and scarf it was enjoyable.

A museum pass can be purchased at the airport when you arrive. It is priced by the days of use and gives you access to many of the Paris museums. Its most powerful feature was the bypassing of the lines to access the museums. Depending on how many of the area museums you are planning on visiting it is a cost saver as well. It provides unlimited access to all the museums listed on the pass.

Crowne Plaza Paris
This was our first trip to Paris and other than the reviews from [...] we weren't sure what to expect. From the moment we ... arrived it was perfect. The entire staff was very welcoming and spoke very good English. Our room was smaller than American hotels but that's to be expected in Paris. We opened our double doors to the square outside and could see the Eiffel tower in the distance, it was PERFECT. The wait staff were friendly, the food exquisite and the only complaint was we had to leave. There were little bistros and shopping on every corner with easy access to the subway system, the Metro. I would highly recommend the Crown Plaza in Paris.

Food abpove average at resturant and longe. However, breakfast left something to be desired, overpriced. Hot food rather ... bland and tasteless. Staff delightful especially felt welcome by the two Conceriege that served us. Nearness to Marias was a definite plus.

Great Stay!
The hotel was beautiful and in a fantastic location: on the same block was one of the central metro lines. There are tons of ... great cafes and patisseries on the surrounding streets, and the hotel is just far away enough from the main tourist attractions to avoid touristy food. The area is clean and very safe feeling and there are lots of locals that dine and shop there. The room was always spotlessley cleaned and the staff even folded our pyjamas and put them under our pillows for us. Checking in and out was easy and the hotel happily holds luggage in a secure room until it is time to check in or leave Paris after check out. There are many American travelers and none of the staff had a problem speaking english. Most of the staff was very helpful, although we were intially told we could not purchase Louvre tickets from them when we could. Good thing we checked with someone else because we were able to buy the tickets from the concierge desk and avoid massive lines. The main complaint I have about the hotel is that the breakfast is way overpriced at 25 euro a person. It's pretty much a typical continental breakfast of average pastries, cereal, and a very limited omelet counter. The breakfast price wasn't posted and I was a bit horrified when I heard how much it was. The hotel restaurant is also pricey with one coke costing around $9 with the conversion rate, but the truffle ravioli was wonderful, even if the portion was very small. Also, you have to pay 3 euros for a half hour of internet service, so you have to use your time wisely or the bill can add up. Overall a great experience, and we want to go back again.

we liked the location because there was good food near and we felt safe hotel very clean and seemed to be where a lot of ... tourist stayed staff friendly but when we checked in we noticed no soap in our room so they came with these 2 bottles of soap shortly after we brought our computer but had to pay to access which we did not like they only have 2 computers downstairs which you must also pay for this was a problem because we needed to print boarding passes which they would not do so i had to wait 1 hour to be able to get on all in all i would say very nice hotel nice room and clean

Wonderful, yet intrusive
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel De La Republique for our honeymoon. It was a great location. Walking distance from about ... anything in Paris if you had good tennis shoes to walk in. We never went to the restaurant at the hotel (le dix) because it was so expensive, but the menu always looked amazing. The one problem we did have was that if we were not out of our room by 10 AM or if we stopped back in to take a nap, the maid service would just come barging in even when we had the DO NOT DISTURB sign up! They would always be very apologetic, but I thought thats what the sign was for. Other than that, the hotel was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone that has never been to Paris before or even if you are returning to Paris.

One thing we did like most about the hotel was that right down the street there was an in and out and also a pizza place. It was nice for those days that you didn't feel like going back out after a long day of walking. By the way, the pizza in Paris is the most amazing pizza I have ever had!

Now the Crowne Plaza
We spent very little time at the hotel but the time we spent there was pleasant. The hotel is literally yards from the ... entrance to the Republique metro station. While the location itself is a bit northeast of the tourist area of Paris, Republique has several lines connecting through it and it was very easy to get where we wanted to go (Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Versailles, Arc d'Triomphe, Notre Dame, etc.) typically with one transfer or less. We got the five day Paris Visite pass so we had unlimited train access including the train from CDG airport. For those who are interested, take the RER B train from CDG to Gare du Nord and transfer to the Metro 5 train to Republique. Follow the signs to the Av. de la Republique exit. The hotel is four or five storefronts up on the left. We arrived at the hotel at about 10:00 a.m. expecting to have to check our bags with the bellman and come back at 3:00 to check in. Instead, they had our room ready for us so we got a chance to unwind and freshen up a bit before hitting the pavement to see the sights. The room was large based on my experience in Europe. They offer a 25 euro (each) breakfast buffet, but we were out the door early most days and just picked up coffee and breakfast either at a cafe or a kiosk. A relative bargain at 8 or 9 euros total for the two of us. We ate dinner in the hotel bar one evening when it was raining. The food was good for bar food but I would rather have been eating at a cafe. There is a Monop mini-grocery about 3 blocks away (go out the hotel door and up the street to the left. The Monop is on the left side of the street). There are also cafes immediately across from the hotel. All-in-all, our time actually in the Crowne Plaza was basically spent sleeping. We got maid service daily and they did a very nice job. Paris was great and we got to do an unexpected side trip to Dieppe in the north of Normandy which was wonderful. I would stay here again.
