Calais is no one's idea of a resort and Accor is France's biggest hotel chain - a combination with a distinct lack of promise.
However having stayed twice in 2 weeks here I'm happy to recommend it. I was on business but I'd also be happy to pay
the €100/night if stopping over on a driving holiday in France.
Staff helpful and friendly, rooms and beds comfortable and some with a bit of character given that it is a pretty old building. Location is excellent with good bars & restaurants within yards.
€15 for overnight parking is a bit steep but it is off street and secure.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short walk from hotel
L'Histoire Ancienne is within 20 yards of the hotel. Old style (if not genuinely old) French bistro with excellent food of the type at a reasonable price e.g. An excellent steak au poivre and a couple of glasses of good red for under €40.
Across the road is local pub Au Bureau (as in "I'm going to be late at The Office"). Good and extensive snack menu and wide range of beers. Chummy staff who automatically switch to English when they hear your accent.
