Aquabella in Aix

The hotel and rooms are clean and modern. The location is decent walking distance to the rest of Aix attractions. Parking was great compared to other hotels in terms of convenience. The pool and gardens are beautiful. The restaurant and bar are much overpriced. I did not visit the spas. Overall a good experience.

Quiet and clean. Access to the spa facilities was refreshing. Easy walking distance to city center, great markets, shops, cafes, you name it. If you want a massage at the spa, book way in advance!

The spa was closed for renovation.

The spa was closed for renovation. Only do breakfast if included in price. Reasonable parking rates but you will need to use and pay for parking if you have a car. Went in low season for pleasure and to look for place to buy in France for our future so this package we got at aquanella thru kayak and hotelclub served us well. Truly deserved it's three star rating as compared to some hotels with four stars.

Nice place to stay

This was my second stay at the Aquabella Hotel. The hotel staff is pretty responsive, especially Hans in the restaurant (for breakfast - the eggs were much improved) and David in the bar - he makes excellent fancy cheese toast. Bring your own washcloth though.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Shopping (clothes, shoes, jewelry, crafts, linens, curios, antiques, candy, soap, snacks, restaurants, farmers market, Christmas market) is wonderful in Aix if you're willing to walk. We learned to use the small taxi busses that have 3 circuits (A, B, and C) through town. Costs just 50 cents.

Modern hotel with excellent location

We came here after spending a week traveling around Provence staying in small and charming French hotels that were often lacking in basic amenities. This was a bit of a refresher for us as it is a good modern hotel that is a little different from your standard small French hotel. The rooms are modern, the air conditioning works well, the rooms are quiet, and the location couldn't be better, right on the edge of the old city. My only complaint is that services in the hotel are somewhat pricey. We had the 17 euro buffet breakfast one morning and it just wasn't worth it. Overpriced and not as good as the buffet we had in other French hotels. Instead, go to one of the small self service boulangeries that are within a block or two of the hotel, and you can a have a petit dejeuner breakfast with coffee, juice, a roll and a croissant for under 5 euros.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

La Chimere Cafe, a charming restaurant in the old city, was warm and welcoming, and has delicious food. If you show up without a reservation, you will be seated at the bar area if there's space, but if you make a reservation you will get a table in one of the two small rooms below the bar area.

You can't go wrong here

The rooms were good sized, the beds were comfortable, the spa services were expensive but we participated in the free fitness classes and used the spa facilities. Lots of museums in easy walking distance. The Orangerie restaurant also expensive, but we used it for breakfast and it was good and convenient. Lots of nearby cafes which were more personal and less expensive. Lovely landscaping and gardens to enjoy.

American contemporary style

The room was large, clean, and well appointed. Dining was both outside under sun umbreallas and inside. Your checkin key folder has a coupon for a free demi-pichet of van. I suggest lunch there; dinner was fair, but overpriced, only do it if you're tired. The area right surrounding the AquaBella is not the best. You need to call taxis from the desk to get to Cours Mirabou; you can't hail them. Everyone was running about in room furnished terrycloth robes/slippers and using the pool and spa. The pool was very spacious for sunning/swimming. We had a van coming in from 2 weeks in the hills of Provence. Parking garage is nearby at a reduced rate of 9.50 Euros daily. Just tell the desk and they auto input it. Come in and unload at the small circle, store luggage if early (no porters), then move your car to the garage and leave it there until you leave town. Ask for a town map. Gamblers can get free transport to their associated casino. Bring your passport. (Don't be confused by other Casino businesses which I think are markets.) If you're going to Marseille airport early next morning, it's tough getting out of town in the dark. I suggest a pre-dark trial run to the edge of town. After two weeks in hill towns in ancient gites, we felt like we were returning to near American standard hotels. Not that they were better, just more what you're used to back home. We only stayed here because of rugby finals in Marseille which had all the airport hotels booked for min. 3 night stays. However, we would stay here again.

Share a taxi to the Cours Mirabeau. Remember to avoid 1-3 for shopping. 1-3 is for lunch.
