Karesuando is a twin village located on both sides of the border between Finland and Sweden with a population of just over 1,000. Situated approx 300km north of the Arctic Circle and located amid majestic, undisturbed and imposing scenery, Karesuando is home to Swedens most northerly church. The village is set on the edge of a vast wilderness where beauty, nature and wildlife abound. But it is also at the heart of the homeland of the reindeer-herding Sami people, who traditionally provide the warm hospitality of True Lapland. Situated on the same latitude as central Greenland and northernmost Canada, Karesuando's climate is nevertheless not as severe, thanks to the Gulf Stream and even in the depths of winter the dry, silent cold feels more comfortable than the intense winds of the south.

Nearby the restaurant is the lounge area, again part of a circular structure, with a centre skylight that represents the ventilation hole at the top of a Sami lavvu (or kota), the reindeer-hide tent that has for centuries been the traditional home to the nomadic people of the region. The lounge is comfortably furnished with sofas, chairs and occasional tables, and is equipped with a large flat-screen television.
The centrepiece of the hotel is the beautiful restaurant, which provides spectacular panoramic views across the snow-covered hillside towards the Swedish part of Karesuando, just across the nearby border. Many of hotel guests enjoy exploring these surroundings. The circular design of the restaurant is inspired by the shape of the Sami reindeer corral.
