Excellent base - Scandic Inter Continental Helsinki
The staff at the hotel are fantastic - polite and very helpful! Can't fault the place - a little dated but very clean, comfortable and warm. A good price for a slightly out of the city location. A tram gooes from outside though and it's just 3 stops into the city for a great shopping experience! The only thing it is lacking is a kettle in the room - although tea and coffeee available in the lobby there is a small charge! Idea for the airport - the Finnair bus goes from opposite the Hotel - just over 6 Euros!

Short walk from hotel
To see the sights take tram 3B or 3T from near the railway station. It is a figure of 8 loop taking an hour for 2 euros, or get a day ticket for 7 euros and hop on and off. It actually goes close to the hotel, but is easier to find the first time by the station.

A good one to pick!!!!
The hotel was an excellent value when compared to other hotels in the area. We had prebooked an non cancelable room. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the center of the city. The hotel is very large and has all the amenities; king bed, coffee maker in room, separate bath and shower, refrig, and a great full gym, finnish bath(sauna) and a swimming pool. It would have been good to have known that the Finnair Bus goes directly from the airport to a stop right in front of the hotel. It cost 6.20 euros. We would stay there again.

We used the Stockmann Department Store deli and market in the basement for great sandwiches and other prepared foods which we usually ate in different parks in the area. There is a park right across the street from the store too.

Tired but convenient
The rooms are somewhat old and tired and the bathroom layout could be better. Beds are a little firm for my taste. However, the staff is excellent, the included breakfast buffet has a broad selection, the sauna is a nice added amenity, and the location is very convenient (although not in the city center, it is a 3 minute tram ride away; easy walk to Opera, national museum and Sibelius monument; the Finnair airport bus also stops just outside the hotel). There are also at least three very good restaurants within 2 blocks.

OK Cheap but tired
The staff are good. The whole hotel is tired. I believe they are about to start an upgrade process.

In general it was a nice stay.
In general it was a nice stay. The services were good, staffs were helpful and competent, and we especially enjoyed the large breakfast offer. Hotel was equipped with sauna and swimming pool, but do not expect to swim in it, it is quite small. The location was about 15 minutes by walk from city centre and the Finnair airport bus stops right next to it so that was another plus; cleanness was good, internet was available free of charge which came in handy. Over all we were satisfied with the price/quality ratio. However, I need to point out that the hotel is quite old and its rooms, lobby halls, carpets, and etc. were somewhat shabby; bathroom hairdryers were really bad so ladies take your own. In case you are not a budget traveller and you want a beautiful hotel for a special occasion you might be dissapointed so go for another option.

Very good for the money. Great breakfast. Nice people. Quiet room. Dinner so-so at best. Older and showing signs of wear.
