I love matamanoa. It's a beautiful island with really nice reef for snorkeling. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Not a lot of selection on the menu but the food were pretty good. I wished i had stayed longer.
We had an amazing honeymoon at Matamanoa Island Resort! We arrived with no luggage (lost in the US) and the reception staff ensured we got it back by calling the airport and working to make sure it was tracked so we would get it before our trip
was over. We arrived on Friday and had our luggage back by Saturday! The resort has a daily board of activities to suit anyone's interests/needs ranging from coconut tasting, kava ceremony, music by the local band each night (so great and they do a lot of cover songs), mountain hiking, etc... These activities are all complimentary and are great insights into the culture of the Fijian people. We also did a few excursions the Castaway Tour (where the movie was filmed) where we snorkeled and learned several facts on how the movie was filmed and scenes were located, etc... Definitely worth going on! We also did the Island Hopping to four nearby islands ending with champagne on the boat ride back to our resort-we would recommend this but be sure to take additional money for lunch as we thought this was included in the price for the excursion. The excursions all cost extra but would do a few if you can! We did the Couples Bonus Package at the treetop spa and wow what amazing scenery and service-so relaxing! As far as the room, we stayed in a Beachfront Bure (their middle cost room) and it was unbelievable with everything you would need on such a remote island! The only thing we wished for was a little softer bed but nothing worth complaining over! The dinner menus change each night and are accompanied with songs by the local band (who will take song requests). The caesar salad and crepe suzette both prepared at your table are to die for, I got the salad every night it was that good! I could go on and on and on about how amazing the staff was-I never have met happier more genuine people on vacation. I left having friends that I felt I had known for much more than a week. My best advice: just go, experience it for yourself.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
The meal plan is not a necessity unless you plan on getting a appetizer, main course, and dessert each night. Some days we were more hungry than others but on average we spent less than the meal plan amount. Also you will not need ANY Fijian cash on the island, they charge everything to your room!
Matamanoa is an absolutely beautiful couples only resort. If relaxation and pampering is what you are looking for, you will find it there. The coral reef is beautiful, the bures need some updating but are perfectly located along the beach. Meals
are good, cocktails are pricy. The staff is wonderful. Watch out for falling coconuts!

Go on a hand-line fishing trip with Ronnie. He is a fantastic guide and it is a lot of fun even if you have never fished this way before.
