5 star pricing, mediocre dining, slow service
Everything is resort-priced, but it takes literally 20-30 minutes to receive a mixed drink, and about 30-45 minutes to receive any kind of food order. This delay in service is casually passed off as "Fiji Time", but after the first few days this behavior becomes very annoying. The food was mediocre and bland, and only a few dishes were great (such as the burger w/bacon, and the breakfast buffet). The drinks were not very strong and very very overpriced. The staff were very warm and friendly and couldn't get any better. We did have an issue with the in-room iron - we were there for a wedding, and my wife was ironing her dress with the iron the hotel provides in the room, and the iron squirted out some nasty brown liquid all over her dress. We were freaking out because we had to be at the wedding in 1 hour. We called up the service desk and the manager looked at the dress and offered free drycleaning and pressing. They got the dress back to us, along with my 2 suits, within minutes of the wedding starting. Finally, I accidentally left my hat in the room after we had checked out, and upon realizing it, I came back to the front desk and reported it. They acknowledged that the housekeeping staff found my hat, but were unable to tell me where it was. I waited in the lobby for 2 hours while various calls were made for the whereabouts of my hat. It was never brought to the front desk. I left Fiji without it, and have not received any update, even though I left them my contact info. Overall, it was a good experience, but these little annoyances were a thorn in our side. We would expect that a 5 star resort would have faster service, better food, and better quality of in-room amenities.

Long walk from hotel
The food and drinks are way overpriced at the hotel. Instead, take a 15 minute walk to Port Denarau Marina and get food and drinks at about 1/2 the hotel prices.

definitely not 5 star
The staff were very friendly and nice but when I called to complain about a drip in the AC system (very annoying) no one ever came to fix it. The buffet food was terrible, birds were flying in and walking all over the place, very unsanitary... The best part of the hotel was the Jacks shop that had a really great selection of gifts at a variety of price points.

TWO STAR stay
My experience at this hotel was shocking. It started with a very rude receptionist. That turned us off from everything that followed. First impressions, etc. The worst part of the whole experience was the towel/pool chair situation. There's nothing to do in Denaru Island except for lying at the pool. The beach associated with the hotels is gross. No one swims in there. But the pool is gorgeous and spending the day around it could be nice and relaxing, BUT the chairs around the pool have no cushions! Seriously! They are made of a hard woven material and have no cushions. I counted 38 chairs on the sand area and over 300 at the pool area. There were 8 cushioned chairs in total and the rest were not usable. The chairs were rock hard and slippery so you end up in a slumped position at the bottom of the chair if you try to sit up and read. The only way to snag one of the cushioned chairs was to set a wake up call and get to the pool before 7am. Not very relaxing. Then you can put your stuff on the chair and go to breakfast or back to sleep and hope and worry that no one moves your stuff and takes the chair. It was very stressful, not at all the relaxing carefree vacation I was hoping for. To be fair, I checked the 4 other hotels in the area and only one hotel provided cushions for their pool chairs. I don't get it. It actually ruined the entire purpose of the vacation for us. Also, you are only permitted one beach towel per day. Not only do you have to give the towel person the towel card you received at check in but you must provide your name and room number before the one towel is handed to you each day. Again, not relaxing and not a carefree atmosphere. If you get your towel wet, you are permitted to trade it in. The pool is beautiful but only 8 people per day get to really enjoy the experience and those 8 are tired and cranky and stressed before the day even begins. The rooms are adequate though my rug was stained and frayed and updates would help. The beds and pillows were comfortable and there is good pressure in the showers. The rooms have a safe and a small fridge which is nice. Except for our initial human contact at the hotel, the rest of the staff was very nice. Be aware of hidden charges - any time you use a credit card or charge to the room, there is a 3% add on to the charge. At check out the bill can be much higher than you anticipated. I wouldn't stay here again and if I hadn't paid in advance I would've left the first day.

Great Relaxing Stay
Had a wonderful time. No complaints, other than I thought the ocean water would be cleaner out front. It's pretty murky, but still a lovely trip.

Food at the hotel is expensive, as expected. Try to buy groceries in downtown Nadi or at the Marina.

Great place for family
I stayed with my little 1 year old daughter and my wife. This place is a perfect destination for ones who are looking for a break with little ones. I was relieved so much to see how friendly staffs are and I had never seen any staff who didn't give a big smile nor say "Bula" (hello) to my little daugher. They are super friendly. They also have a nanny service for less than 2 year olds and kids club for older which gave me free time. If food is little better I would give 5 out of 5.

Take "Bula Bus" which costs Fijian $8.5 for all day. It gives you a free resort hopping.

Beautiful!!!!
A real gem of a Hotel, everything was absolutly lovely and the employees could not have been more helpfull. My only complaint would be the price of the buffets, either morning or dinner. Very spendy, like $45.50 FJD p/person for full breakfast and $87+ for dinner.

Honeymoon
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. The check-in process was slow, as at the time of booking the Orbitz site said breakfast was included. This was a mistake (apparently by Orbitz). This should be corrected now, but please check this prior to booking if you plan on staying here. Staff - for a high-end resort, I found that the staff could have been more accommodating/friendly/helpful. When I brought up the issue about breakfast being included, rather than looking into the issue, the front desk lady first told me I was wrong, and didn't care about the physical paper reservation details I had in hand. I had to speak to the front-desk manager, at which point she listened to me and got the credit added to our room. Breakfast - the breakfast is pricey (although it was included for us), but it was great!! There is plenty of selection for everyone. Different cereals, pastries, breads, fresh fruits, hot dishes...just a lot to choose from. We sat near an open window, where you can take in a view of the garden area outside. There are lots of birds flying around, and it was a nice experience. Room - we had an ocean view room, and it was amazing. As soon as we get up, we could see the ocean. The room was clean. The shower/toilet area is very small, and could be lit better. Also, the sink area outside could have better lighting. The lights look nice, but I'd rather have brighter lighting. Other - the hotel is on the beach, so you can walk from your room to the beach. Sofitel has hammocks placed in various spots throughout the shoreline. Be sure to take advantage of this. Grab a book, some sunglasses/hat, and get ready to relax and take in the sunset! Laundry facility on site was nice to have. There are several restaurants to choose from, so that's nice. People - its a family friendly place, so we did see several families with kids, who take up the pool.

The beach for all the hotels in this area are on reclaimed land. They're nice, but if you want to experience the famous clear/blue waters Fiji has to offer, you'll need to head out to on of the smaller islands. There are plenty of companies that offer half-day excursions to these islands.
