Dining

Abo El Sid
Tip Try and book one of their round tables with a revolving centre. Don't miss the local soup dish molokheya with chicken. Egyptian food served in elegant and classy surroundings. A lovely venue, which locals rate as authentic down home.
Andrea
Tip Try the traditional Egyptian homemade bread with charcoal grilled chicken. Offers great Egyptian food, a firm favourite with locals.
Arabesque
Tip Try the vine leaves and kobeba, a speciality of the house. The entire restaurant is beautifully decorated in the arabesque style, with traditional Islamic art giving it an old fashioned Egyptian feel.
Christo's
Tip Order the grilled shrimp, the specialty of the restaurant. Eat on the upper terrace with a stunning view of the Pyramids. A classic for seafood lovers. Popular among expats, tourists and families.
Abu Tarek
Abou tarek restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants in Egypt, it has been established in 1950 to offer Koshary, a traditional Egyptian dish with a delicious taste.
Farahat
Tip Try the rice stuffed pigeon or pigeon soup while you are here. Come here for Egyptian grilled food like Kebab and Kofta. Farahat also has an authentic Egyptian atmosphere.
Felfela Village
Tip Do not miss the Egyptian shisha after dinner. Very old and traditional restaurant for foul and tamia, dried bean dishes, and other Egyptian specialties.
Nagiub Mahfouz
Tip Try the veal kebab or kofta and finish off with om ali, an Egyptian desert of cream, rice and bread. In the heart of the old Khan El Khalily bazaar with oriental decor, relaxed ambience and delicious food.
After Eight
Tip It is a good idea to call in advance to see if the entertainment is to your liking and to reserve a table. One of the oldest and most active nightspots in downtown Cairo. This venue has a different live band performing every night.
Le Pacha Boat (River boat)
An oriental restaurant on the Nile's oldest and most elegant boat with live Arabic singing every evening. Shisha is served alongside Lebanese and Egyptian mezze.

Great Overnight Stay

Overall excellent, BUT the hotel drivers -- we took two, one for a 3 hour excursion to Western Cairo, the other to the airport -- did not know where they were going. I know Cairo well since i lived here in the 1970s, so could direct the first. But the second, who took us to the airport, almost got lost -- he seemed to have no idea where the International terminal was or how to get there. Frankly, this is something that needs to be corrected. Thank you,

Very pleasant, reasonable value

My wife and I stayed at the InterContinental for one week while visiting family. Our room was comfortable and very clean. The lifts worked perfectly at all times. Our interactions with the staff were professional and friendly. We did not use the dining room as we ate with family or at restaurants. The area is very safe and convenient. I would stay there again. Although a number of museums are nearby also a big mall attached to the hotel , we didn't do any sightseeing this trip as we concentrated on spending time with family
