NIGHTMARE
After a long fight, trying to relax we found rude customer service on two occasions (Ana Belen and Maria Elena Bustamante -manager front desk). Plus after we paid for a suite with breakfast, they did not honor that and we had to beg for breakfast, even the monitor in the Airport advertised such a deal. They will try to rip you off and you're going to have a horrendous time. Do not stay in the Hotel.

Great Post-Galapagos Indulgence
We probably would have been happy with anything that wasn't actively pitching and rolling at that point, but Oro Verde was a wonderful spot to stay after our Galapagos cruise. Airport shuttles are perfectly punctual (every half hour starting at 4AM) and staff were quite helpful. Very comfortable, well-appointed rooms and all the amenities you'd expect. Not the closest to the airport, but the price difference between this outstanding hotel and similar ones nearer to the airport made it a clear choice.

AFFORDABLE LUXURY IN GUAYAQUIL
Great hotel near the airport and newly re-done Malecon. we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and home-like atmosphere of the hotel. their web-site does not mention Wi-Fi, however it is available in every room. make sure to take advantage of hotel's complimentary airport pick up. Very positive experience, a nice alternative to more expensive and less personal Hilton.

Great hotel!
My wife and I were recommended to this place by some of her family who live in Ecuador. Very nice staff and great service. It was in a busy area (pretty safe) near different restaurants and shops. I would not recommend the main cafeteria/restaurant in the hotel for dinner, because they had pretty slow service. We waited almost 45 minutes for our food to arrive! That gave us less time to explore Quayaquil. The breakfast buffet, however was very good, and had better service.

Short walk from hotel
We were told to stay in the main touristy areas, because the off streets could be dangerous for visitors. The main street had alot of things to see, and you get great exercise walking! When traveling by taxi, make sure they have a license plate (seriously), and make sure they're legit. Better to have the hotel you're staying at find you a taxi.

Oro Verde
In general the staff at this hotel was excellent. The exception being that when a large group of people arrived, the management who were behind the counter immediately disappeared, and left one front desk clerk to handle 10 check-in's which made the process unreasonably wrong. Management needs to step up and lend help when it is needed not just supervise.

Time-saving tip:
In Hotel
Do not take a flight in from the USA which lands at 11 pm, you will take a long time to get through customs, then the shuttle will wait for all on the list, and then you will have multiple people in line at check in

It all depends.....
We stayed in this hotel twice, on our arrival night on January 31, 2011 and night before departure to US on February 7, 2011. Well, talking about the room, the first one was way below expectations, very small, dirty windows not to mention the quality of the furnishing and over all that you will never want to stay in the same room again. I was blaming myself for making reservation in advance for our stay in the same place before departure to US and what a surprise, we got the room, by the way next door to the previous one, that was completely opposite, well above average in size, nicely furnished, nice, clean big windows facing US Consulate, so I guess it is all about how lucky you'll be. Due to our late arrival time we get to hotel after midnight, so the only open place to get something to eat was a restaurant on the ground floor, next to elevator, it is open till 1:00 AM. don't expect full selection availability from menu at such time, and by the way they do not sell any alcoholic beverages after midnight. Food, I would expect more from the restaurant rated do high. There is sauna, gym, steam room, and big pool on the first floor, no crowds here and open from 6 in the morning till 10 at night. Staff is nice & very friendly but not all service staff communicates in english well enough. Hotel offers pick up from airport service, and yes we were greeted by the hotel rep at the airport as expected, nevertheless, considering late arrival time, we waited outside for the bus to arrive about 35 - 40 minutes, that alone set a bad tone specifically after long day of getting there all the way from Richmond, VA. If you are a smoker, your place to get a smoke is right on the street, next to the police officer and a trash can or latter on during the day they put a few patio type tables and chairs surrounded by some small fence next to the street. We took a long walk in the evening hours and didn't stick just to the main street and explored stores way away from the tourist paths. Personally I didn't felt threatened by anyone, felt safe and comfortable. I thing if you act and look like a potential victim it is possible you'll become one. Do your shopping somewhere else, everything in the downtown is way to expensive. Buy your souvenirs also somewhere else in advance, there is nothing in the hotel and nothing around the hotel. If you smoke, don't buy marlboro from boy or girl on the street, they are asking for 5 bucks, any small store few steps away sells the same for the half price and also keep in mind that you can buy three cartons of Marlboro on your way back in duty free store in airport for 40 bucks, that's three times less than in the tobacco capital - Richmond. Overall, the rest of our short trip was much better, we had an excellent personal guide all way up the coast and back, so got a chance to experience all kind exotic foods prepared right in front of you for small fraction of the cost you pay in the hotel and many other amazing experiences.
