I LIKE TO SIT AT THE POOL AT NIGHT, NOT EVEN TO GO IN THE WATER, JUST TO RELAX. POOL CLOSED EARLY AND WAS OFF LIMITS. I KNOW THE JARAGUA HOTEL POOL NEXT DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN TO USE AND ENJOY.

Good hotel in Santo Domingo

Very good hotel for the money. Close to everything. Lots of places to eat near the hotel. Take a walk during the day to the areas behind the hotel you will find local food at a good price. Even a French restaurant very little but grate food. And a t Villar Bakery you will find a list of over 30 sandwiches until very late at night. Buy water outside the hotel it is 200% cheaper. just .30 cents 20oz. compare at $2.00 in the hotel. nice trip.

Wonderful Staff

The staff was terrific as usual but this time my room faced the parking lot and alarms and people talking loud all night long was very disturbing.

Good location

First of all the location is the biggest plus to this hotel. It's reasonably close to both the airport and the Colonial Zone. At first glance the hotel looks really nice. The lobby is spacious and there are very pretty light and water features throughout. We were given a glass of juice upon check in, which was appreciated. There are also some nice amenities: pool, work out room (complete with sauna), and restaurant. Our room was just ok at best. We were given 2 double beds and wished we'd asked for king-size and then we would have had a couch too. It was clean enough, but very worn with only a teeny balcony. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner there just because it was handy and ate there 5 times. Prices were the best for breakfast since we were given a 2-for-1 membership upon check in. We highly recommend walking down to the Colonial Zone, which is packed with history, with many buildings dating back to the 1500's. However I must warn you that you literally get bombarded with people selling you things and there is a ton of garbage everywhere. We did hire a tour guide ([...], who can be found at the courtyard by the cathedral) and spent 3 hours with him and saw everything (and more) that we had planned on. Our second day there was a bad storm in the afternoon with heavy rains, thunder, and lightning. It ended up taking out the elevator service (which was a bummer as we were on the 8th floor, but there was 1 very slow service elevator working), all phones, and Internet. We had paid for the Internet that day and then couldn't use it until the evening. They also closed the pool for the remainder of the day.We did go to exercise and it was decent. That's also where we went for drinkable water. We were disappointed that they didn't supply free water in the room each day since it's not potable there. However it is drinkable in the restaurants. All-in-all we thought this was a 3 star hotel.

Great place to stay for the 5th time

I've originally had reservation for 7/10/09 but my friends had plans of their own. they made reservation at a resort for the weekend and I was not going to be able to check into my hotel until Monday. Hotel Melia's staff understood and made sure I didn't loose my room reservation and $$$$.
