Super Secure Location

If you are have never been to Santo Domingo and want a very secure hotel this might be the place for you. However, I felt over scrutinized coming and going in the hotel as I was looking for a laid back vacation feel to my stay. On the other hand house keeping was excellent and very friendly. The lobby staff were not very friendly something that I thought I would never experience in the carribbean. Key cards to the elevator, pool area, and my room constantly took multiple swipes to work. Checkout is at 1:00 a +

Unbeatable food & service for the price

The service and food were exceptional. Internet was fast and reliable. We stay at the Melia while we visit family, and it is, by far the most comfortable and safest place. We tried other hotels in the area and were disappointed with the food, service and room appearance. We've recommended the hotel to other family members and they now stay at the Melia when they visit Santo Domingo.

First Timer

First time staying at the Melia.......reception guy named [...] was "amazingly" friendly and welcoming, restaurant waiters were "beyond attentive", pool area extremely clean and beautifully kept. What was the worst was the hotel staff either cleanings or delivering newspapers would talk VERY loudly in the hallways, right outside the rooms, as early as 4:30 am. Very aggrativing. Initially I was given what would have to be one of the worse rooms with a pitiful view of a roof top with mops and brooms. The moment I asked to speak to a manager, my room was upgraded to a beautiful view of the Malecon, the ocean and the palm trees, got breathtaking sunrises! Food at the restaurant was YUMMY; a great buffet every morning for breakfast. The young lady who greeted us when we checked in, was not in the best moods and didn't even tell me or give me the discount card for breakfast etc.......and didn't have the most friendly face. The minute I started going to [...], the young man also working the reception desk..............I felt welcomed and I felt valued as a hotel guest. Some hospitality training I think needs to be given as refresher courses etc. Room was kept very clean, everything was great, except for hotel staff talking too loudly at such an early time in the hallways. I would return to the Melia !!!!!!!!!!!

Don't stay at the Melia

The security policies allow the bad people to get away with violations and puts the honest ones in danger

Its my 5th Time staying at the Hotel the staff always remembers me. was visiting for the holidays with family and enjoyed every single day. The Hotel has a great view of the sea and its location is perfect, its walking distance from shopping, restaurants movie theathers and for walks along the sea there's the malecon as well. a short taxi drive will take you to the Colonial fortress which is full of the countries history. Again great place to stay, cortious and friendly staff 24/7.
