don juan resort
The area outside was not that safe for tourists so we stayed on the resort. There were fun activities such as spanish lessons, beach volley ball, dancing, stretching, water polo and more! The staff was phenomenal, very friendly and fun. I was a little disappointed that I only found another group of people who spoke english. It was a big getaway for locals and europeans so I practiced my non-existing spanish skills. We had a great time and it was a very lovely place to go to.

Disappointing
I have been to this hotel several times in the past. It seems to be going downhill. To start it took over an hour to check in!! The weekend they were full and did not have adequate staff at restaurant, bars, nor registration area. Balcony door was broken, tv did not work, air conditioner was barely passable. Highly disappointing.

Great deal. No screens. Bring Off!
I arrived at the hotel half hour before check in and they checked me in immediatelty. The grounds are clean and safe. I did have trouble with hot water once I was in the room, but again they changed my room right away. GREAT food. I was impressed because even in pricier resterarunts in the DR the food is subpar. But the food here was really good. pasta, sautees, fresh fruit, all with a a CArribean spin so stay open-minded and ignore the snoty foodies on here whining about their eggs. The food was excellent. The animation or recreational team were fun as well. They totally look after all adults AND children. Constantly engaging with you or taking ther kids off on adventures. There are two major drawbacks for me about this property: Mosquitos are the biggest problem. The dining room and the hotel rooms both lack screens. It became a real nuisance and I ran out of the travel size can of Off I brought with me. I wisjh they would have had screens. I also struggled to enjoy the entertainment. It was definitely more geared to wards the native Domnicano hotel guests. The music in the disco was all local or regional music and becomes redundant and boring. Also the laundry servic ewas bad. Don't use it. Overall I consider these problems minor, especially when you consider that you are only paying 65 dollars a night for incredible meals, a safe campus w/ security very present and visible, and all-you-can-drin alcohol! I highly recommend this plac. i would just say--Don't forget your Off!

don juan resort in santo domingo
dont fall for the all inclusive, activities were there but for a a small cost, the drinks were watered down cheap label snack bars are open when they feel like it, the beach would of been enjoyable if we werent pestered by peddlers every 20 sec. to avoid them tou must sit by pool. if you leave the premisses you will enjoy the view and smell of garbage around you.

Great Trip... Great Beach... Great Food
The hotel package was a great deal. The staff at the hotel made it a great time. Beach and pool were superior to other places I visited. Food was good. After dinner the entertainment staff were always doing some type of show for the guests. However, check out was extremely slow. They don't do currency conversions..which made no sense to me.

hello columbus
less and more than expected
check-in was fast and flawless. room fantastic with incredible view of ocean, beach, and poolside from balcony. don juan beach resort's promo page claims that hotel stay includes one hour a day of many activities including wind surfing, sailboating, snorkeling, tennis, or health club....all these aforementioned activities were non existent. when i inquired, i was told i would have to go to outside operators of such activities who are not connected with the resort and pay for them. i was dissapppointed to learn this as i feel this is beyond deceptive advertising. it is a flat out lie. that being said, i was equally elated to discover the unadvertised entertainment every weekend night at their small ampitheater-type stage. the musical performances, comedy sketches, and dance routines were fantastic considering they caught me offguard. they also had both male and female dance hosts on friday night in case you wanted to learn some new steps with professional quality dancers. i tried most of the dining options. all of them were better than i expected, but consider i am not a fine dining expert, just a pizza and sandwich kind of guy. that breakfast buffet spoiled me. made to order eggs, omelettes, and pancakes along with endless other selections. i miss it already now that i am back home. security was everywhere, both day and night. they constantly patrol the entire complex and beach. very polite and respectful of all guests. the waitstaff catered to all needs and requests in a professional and polite manner. housekeeping attendant spotlessly cleaned my room each day. asked for an iron and they brought up the iron and board to my room right away. could not have expected anything more from anyone there except for trying to change larger bills, both dollars and pesos at the front desk. last time i visited the dominican republic i stayed in the colonial district. never again...this place was great and they offer a free shuttle to santo domingo if you care to visit the historical sites. boca chica...for the price, with the beach and close proximity to the airport, this is it for me...and oh, for extra cirricular entertainment, walk out the front entrance of the resort at night and take a stroll down through the festive town. what a party! haha
