traveling with family

there were a few bumps in the road the first day. the desk help didnt seem to care. after many hours of back and forth I got to speak with Juan Carlos Alvarez the reception manager. From that time on he made sure everything was perfect. Due to his kindness I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Leaves much to be desired

While this hotel has great potential, the new management is missing the mark. The staff is polite and hard working but the administration seems to be striving for less than mediocrity. The clean staff cleans, but the room floors need a thorough mechanical scrubbing and refinishing. The furnishings need updating. The hot food at the buffet is not kept warm enough nor is the variety plentiful. Needless to say I will likely not return to this resort for any reason but to meet with the spa staff...

Lots of security officers all around makes u feel safe and if u can give them a dollar tip u will definitely see the difference. I wouldn't mind going back again..

Bottome line: You get what you pay for

Hamaca Beach is an older, well maintained resort. The premises on the outside look very good and photograph very well. Furthermore, the area surrounding the resort can best be described as the ghetto (safe, but run down). The section of the beach reserved for hotel guests is relatively small and overlooks an industrial site on one side. The lobby is clean and looks tropical. The rooms are huge and each room has a balcony. However, the rooms are dated, the furniture is old with obvious scratch marks and visible signs of wear and tear. I saw a huge water bug during my stay. I also came home with many mosquito bites. The hotel staff was average. They provided very little information. I asked how much it cost to use the Internet and the front desk not only did not know the cost, but she could not tell me where the computers were located. Since my alarm clock was broken, I asked for a wake up call at 2AM because I had a 5:30 AM flight. They said okay. Needless to say, the front desk never called at 2AM. I caught my flight because I chose not to go to sleep on my last night at the resort. The food is decent. Overall, I paid $751 for 7 nights. Dirt cheap, so I cannot complain. I had a nice experience, the staff was pleasant, and if you keep your expectations low, you will enjoy yourself too.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

If you decide to tour on the Colonial Zone, you can book a tour for $25 through a company on Calle Duarte. The tour I booked on the hotel premises cost $40. If you want to go to Santo Domingo, the local bus costs $2 and $4 USD round trip. The local taxi's charge $80 round trip to Santo Domingo.

got what we paid for :)

We traveled with a single friend of ours over Thanksgiving. For under $60/person, per day, for an all-inclusive resort, we got what we paid for. You can go to the beach bar to get all the rum drinks you desire. The pool bars were not open and the snack bar was hit or miss, but it was low season so I'm sure that's different during other times of the year. The rooms could use some updating and deep cleaning, but we really just slept in it so not a huge deal to us. The food at the buffet and "gourmet" dominican restaurant was average, and we got house wine with lunch and dinner everyday. We certainly did not go hungry ever. We liked being able to walk off the resort along the beach and eat on shore and catch the "gua-guas"(public busses) with ease. We took the bus into Santo Domingo for a couple day trips. We did try one of the tours offered through the hotel (not really sure who actually runs it; we booked it upstairs at the resort) and it was not worth it. One important thing to note is that the Be Live Hamaca Resort has a new investor, and we could see (and hear) improvements being made to the grounds of the resort. We hope that the service and rooms are included in the upcoming improvements. When all is said and done, we'd go back, but if you're looking for luxury and high end service, I'd consider looking elsewhere and recognize that you will pay for it.

A Decent Stay

Overall, I enjoyed staying at Hamaca Beach Be Live hotel. The room itself was spacious, and also the bathroom and shower cabin were also large. The window faced the ocean, so that was a plus. However, on several nights there was a loud music on the beach that could be heard and disturbed us somewhat.

Choose the La Cotica Buffet for your nightly dinner. The other three restaurants do not meet the mark.

Not the greatest experience

Where shall I begin. .we checked in at 2:15 and were told after waiting approx 15 minutes before being helped that we would have to come back at 3PM since that is the check in time but could use the amenities. The room although clean was not worthy of a 3 star hotel. There was construction outside our balcony, there was no mini bar and the fridge must have been from the 1950s. No water or soda. No hair dryer. Had to go down to the front desk and request a hair dryer TWICE. Also had to request soda and water TWICE. It was only delivered once. Then the hurricane arrived. The ceiling in the hall outside our room was raining water, the floor was soaked. Again to the Front desk. Because of the language barrier we had to show the maintenance man what was wrong. Wake up the following morning and find that it was raining in the bathroom and closet. Again, down to the front desk where others were complaining--one woke up to it raining in his bed. They gave us a new room which was newer--why not here in the first place? I have pictures if anyone is interested. The food was OK. Service in the Italian restaurant left a lot to be desired--spent 2 hours at our table here. The staff was friendly although I felt that the first room we got was given to us because I spoke up when the staff took someone off the line in back of us. I would not recommend this place to anyone at this point and I have never said that before. I will certainly be going back to the more recognizable names in hotels. I guess I got what I paid for.
