Beware the food

Swim up pool was great, bartenders were very friendly. We stayed at the Royal Turquesa Suites and pillows and bed were hard as a rock but they fixed that for us after going to the front desk which brings me to the Butlers... Don't count on them for anything, they are nowhere to be found even after we called them 4-5 times for the same thing. We just decided to stop calling and walk everywhere. And make our own reservations. Be very careful with the food, we were sick all week from it. We ordered breakfast one day and the milk was yellow and curdled, that was red flag #1. Stay away from the seafood, went to the French restaurant and they served me rotten shrimp. I then spoke to the kitchen manager and he did admit that it was old. The Japanese restaurant is the safest bet. The steakhouse was decent. The lettuce tasted like bleach a few times. Brush your teeth with the bottled water they provide for you, I gave the guy five dollars and he kept my fridge stocked with it.

Disappointing!

My wife and I chose the Royal Suites because it had very good reviews. We went on the trip with another couple. I won't even talk about the experience at the airport or customs but lets just say it was 3 hours of torture. So we finally arrive at the resort. It was very clean and well maintained. Never a piece of trash on the ground or a weed in the landscape. We reserved the swim out room and we actually got upgraded to a swim out bungalow. The room was very nice and clean, no complaints there. Now let's get to the food and staff. I am American and I can honestly tell you there is NO Way! anyone from the United States could say that food was good. I been to numerous all inclusive in many different countries and this was not only the worst food I've eaten at a resort but it was the worst I've ever eaten in my life!!! I can't even describe how bad it was. Breakfast was terrible! Lunch was terrible! Dinner was terrible!! The best meal we had was Wendy's at the airport before we left!! As for the staff I would say 25% of the staff were friendly. 50% didn't speak any English. And the 25 % were down right rude!! I never write reviews but I thought it was important to do so this time. I don't want anyone else to waste their money on this resort!!! My advice to you is if you don't personally know someone who went to a resort in Punta Cana, then don't go!!!!!

Great R & R vacation

3rd time back to the resort. Again, it did not disappoint us. The resort and staff is great. Especially Michalena and Antonio. The only disappointment was the selfishness of the other guest by reserving beach chairs before 8am and then not showing up till afternoon. The resort should go back to using the towel cards and limiting the amount of beach towels, This might avoid this.

Honeymoon Dissapointment

My wife and I booked a trip to the Royal Suites expecting that it would be an amazing vacation (especially since other reviews seemed favorable towards the resort.) Once we got there our excitement was short lived. All seemed well at first; we quickly got our room keys and were told a butler would bring our luggage to the room right away. Well, once we got to the room, we discovered that we had gotten the wrong room type. We immediately went to the lobby to remedy this but were told that the computer said we had the smaller room so that's what we had to take, even though we had paperwork that said otherwise. They said that the only difference was in size so we should be fine (even though we had paid a $100/night premium to get the larger room.) Thankfully we were able to get a hold of our travel agent who managed to convince them that we did in fact pay for the larger room. The resort person told us that we would have to come back after dinner, to give them time to find and clean a proper room, and that a butler would come to our old room to bring us to our new one. We did this, but nobody ever came, so I went back to the lobby to see what was happening. They said I should have come earlier because the room was ready (despite the fact that earlier they had told me to wait). By the time my wife and I finally made it to our proper room, it was 10:00. So essentially we lost the entire first day of our honeymoon dealing with room problems. I should also mention, that it took over 2 hours for our luggage to show up at our temporary room. (It was sitting in the middle of the lobby until then) After the first hour I went to go grab it myself, but was turned away saying a butler would bring it in "2 minutes". Those 2 minutes turned into another hour. The next issue was with the power in our room. I believe there was a short somewhere in the bathroom, because whenever something was plugged in, or the mirror light turned on (resulting in sparks), the electric breaker would trip for the whole suite. I ended up switching off the breaker for just the bathroom, for fear of getting electrocuted in the shower (which had a digital panel) Some other minor issues: No hot water for the hot tub Broken TV remote control Safe out of batteries (this one was fixed after a day) No alcohol (this was addressed, but we likely would have been charged if I hadn't noticed and said something the first night) Balcony light broken Room service that was ordered and never came Room service that took 1+ hours to come (despite the booklet saying 20-30 minutes) In all, it was a very disappointing honeymoon, and my wife and I were glad when we finally got to leave. Outwardly the Resort looks beautiful, but I would warn anyone considering it to be careful. We will definitely not be staying here again.

Wonderful Anniversary Get Away!

This was our first trip to Punta Cana and we couldn't have chosen a more perfect resort! Our check-in attendant, Ricky, was excellent. Our butler, Angel, was fabulous! He is proficient in English and did everything -from making reservations- to checking on us after excursions. His attentiveness is one of the main reasons our stay was so enjoyable. The beaches and pools were pristine. The layout was easy to navigate and the landscaping immaculate. The food was varied and quite good. Room service was an added treat. The employees work long, hard days. Although tipping is not required, it is greatly appreciated. My one suggestion is to step-up the on-site shows and entertainment. I highly recommend The Royal Turquessa. We took two excursions. The Canopy Zip-Lining was great. It took over an hour's drive to reach the mountains, but the scenery, excitement of the ride, and commentary by our guide, Andreas, made the trek fun and memorable. We also went to Manati Park zoo. We read mixed reviews on this excursion and were hoping for better. The shows were weak, the concession prices inflated, and the pressure to buy souvenirs annoying.

Great Value

Overall, this hotel was a great value. We had trouble with just about every electronic item in our room, but most of the staff was excellent. The one thing that is kind of annoying is that the room's power is only on if you have a room key in the room. If you leave a key card in the power switch when you leave the room, the staff will remove it when they make up the room, fill the minibar, etc. Then you come back to a hot room with an undersized A/C unit. Overall, the barstaff was very good. The waitstaff in most cases were good, but there were a few exceptions. The food was decent. Las Torres was a very good buffet. The Royal Gourmet was pretty good, but the lobster there was not very good. El Behique was an okay buffet and El Arrecife was a buffet and not very good. Bamboo was a fantastic chinese restaurant (probably my favorite of the restaurants I went to. El Rodizio was the Brazilian restaurant. I love the brazilian style restaurants, but it seemed the the meat was tenderized to the point that it had no texture arount the edges. Sumptuori is the Benihana style restaurant. It was good, but we weren't sat at one of the grilles, so it wasn't as fun as you would expect. I did not get to go to the steakhouse, but I had beef fillets several times while we were there. The beef there certainly isn't as good as American beef, but the ox was fairly close. The seafood was not as good as I expected. The pools and the beach were great. The palladium hotels probably have about 1km of beach. We went in late November. At this time of year, we found that you don't want to sleep in because the best beach weather is in the morning starting around 8:00am. It usually gets pretty cloudy/rainy later in the afternoon. Some of the perks you get over the other parts of the resort by staying in the Royal Suites are reservations in the al a carte restaurants, point-to-point transportation #you don't have to use the train that loops arond the resort), free wi-fi, and butler service.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

The bottle of rum I wanted was $9 in a local shop and $25 at the airport duty-free store. Don't buy anything from the airport duty-free stores. The Catalina picked us up for free. They were recommended to us by VIP travel, the transfer company we booked through the website.

GREAT Time...!

I stated at the Turquesa which was adults only and had a pool attached to by sliding door. DEFINATELY, take this option. It was quite and peacful and I really relaxed. Then if you wanted more fast paced busyiness...simply walk to the other family places. The BEACH was georgous and well kept...everyday they would have staff that would clean the seaweed away to reveal the soft white sands. The only thing I didn't like was not feeling safe if I left the resort...so I stayed inside it. The SPA...WOW! Ask for Franseca and get the DeStress treatment....it's intoxicating and made the trip so amazing.!

The outside tables at Le Chanterelle were so enjoyable...and this restaurant is reserved for only those that stay at the Royal Suites Adults Only which made it very romantic! SPECAIL NOTE... TIP! These folks work hard to serve you and they deserve it. I found estimating what it would cost at home and tipping appropriately worked best and insured VERY Special attention when I returned...!

More Mediocre than Expected

The cleaning staff were exceptional. The hotel was well maintained, with beautiful landscaping. The beach was very clean, and most staff were very pleasant and helpful. The concierge was less than helpful. We had booked an pre-paid excursion, and in spite of calling this organization 4 times over a 2 day period, we were unable to make arrangements for the actual outing, so lost this money. The phones for the adventure were often unattended, and when people did answer, "the right person wasn't available." The excursion company seemed entirely unapologetic and were not helpful--we were transferred about 5 times in a 15 min span, to have to re-explain the prepaid safari option, only to be told that we needed to talk to someone else, and be transferred again. The hotel staff replied that since that didn't book it personally, they couldn't help--and they didn't. Mind you, they used the same company for other outings, but still were not willing to help with this issue. There was a limited cocktail menu, and the food was adequate, but not spectacular. In contrast to the other resort restaurants, the Italian restaurant was the best of the lot, good service, and excellent pasta + Caribbean lobster that was very well prepared. Advice: Skip the others, and go to this one every night. Hours for dining are strictly enforced. Breakfast ends at 10am, and in spite of being an all inclusive resort, I was told by room service that orange juice was a "breakfast item," so could not have it--this was 10 minutes past the cutoff. Being more flexible on menus and times to dine would do this place significant favors. Ultimately, I would choose not return to this resort company based on our experiences here.

Very happy with the trip

We were very happy with this resort. It was DEFINITELY worth it to buy up to the swim-up suites. The food was good, but not great. The Mexican restaurant was the best that we had. We did one excursion for a "party boat" where we snorkeled with sharks & sting rays and then partied on the boat with music & drinks and it was a blast. Bottom line - you'll love this place, but get a swim-up suite. Don't forget bug spray!
