Great stay w/important tips

Check in was very easy and friendly staff. The room was very big, nice, a full 1 1/2 bath apartment. Clean, spacious with plenty of towels, shower/bathroom items, toilet paper and things like this. The kitchen comes with a pan, big saucepan, knives, forks, spoons, big/small plates, bowls, a few glasses, small coffee maker and microwave. Don't expect anything else in there so it might be a good idea to bring some extra items for cooking. One flat screen in the living room and one in the bedroom, no DVD players. Bring one if you want. If you plan ahead though, it's no problem.

Very valuabe info: Four restaurants available within VERY close walking distance...The Moon Bar (okay...sometimes not sure what you'll actually get, or if it will be the same as last time#, Beach Grill #pretty good, get with Rafael the Manager#, Captain Cook #very good with great service, The Greek #didn't try#. Also there's a place that does pizza to the left up the road a very short walk after 7 PM or so. And it's pretty good! You're not confined to always eating out though which is one point of staying at this place with a full kitchen! Go to Polo Bavaro #sp?# or San Juan by $1/person bus and shop for food #best to take a cab back. $18 from San Juan or $10 from Polo Bavaro by Hardrock especially if you buy 5 liter bottles of Dasani water, which is a must#. If you just buy a few bags, take the bus back which runs back and forth every 15 mins. Also, don't expect the restaurant staff to speak English. They speak either only Spanish or Spanish and Russian with only maybe one person who speaks any good Englsih. As far as the beach and side road shops, never pay more than 50% of the asking price from these shady farmers. Everything is routinely marked up over 100% in hopes of getting as much as possible for an item. FYI- there is rum availabe for $10/750 ML and coffee for $5. Also, you can get HUGE Presidente beers for $300 each at the little shop right outside the Presidental Suites. You just have to shop around to find what you what at the best prices. Talk to Montero at hotel reception and he'll tell you anything you need and how to get it. Don't be afraid to just walk out of ignore the store owners. They will do ANYTHING they can to get you in and waste your time looking at the garbage they all peddle #and it's all the same garbage shop after shop). Also, if you really want to waste your time and money, go on the ever popular trip to Saona island. Sure it's nice, but for $150 you get to wake up EXTRA early, be on a bus for a total of 6 hours or so, take a boat and sit on a beach for a few hours with a little food. There and back you also stop and spend 30 minutes at shop with the same garbage they sell right outside the hotel. I didn't feel like it was worth it...the peddlers just make it sound good like it's the thing to do. From my experience, it's really not. The beaches outside the hotel are just as nice and you can go in when you want, or go the pool.
