Beautiful beach thats about it
This resort had beautiful grounds which were well kept & manicured. The room decor & layout was nice except for the fact that there were little ants by bathroom sink, on top, even saw some on the bed & couch! They had at least 5 different outside tour operators, if not more, on site and way too many hotel concierge staff, which seemed to have same job as the tour operators planning excursions for guests. Every day I witnessed group of 5 concierge guys just hanging around waiting for the guests to leave breakfast so they can 'accomodate' tourists. I thought concierge was service for guests to get recommendations or suggestions of places to go or things to do if thats what the guest wants, but the concierges approach to guests made them look desperate to sell something, didn't like that at all. For an All Inclusive beachfront property, I was disappointed there was NO beach service for drinks & if you were at farther end of beach, you had to walk to other side to get drink or use restroom. At least have accessible bars/restrooms if you don't provide beach service. Website says there is room service, HOWEVER does not tell you there is a $5 delivery charge each time you order. Who does that? You say you're an All Inclusive property, ALL food, drinks & tips included but yet charge for "delivery"? Food was nothing spectacular. Grill & buffet stations with the raw meat/fish just sitting out uncovered NOT even on ice! UGH definitely wouldnt see that in US hotels. I definitely wouldn't recommend this resort.

Hotel was fine plumbing horrible.
The resort did not have enough beach chairs for their guest. People were getting upset including myself. Constant harrassment by people who were selling day trips very annoying. But the people cleaning staff, cooks, bartenders and front desk were great!

Beautiful....mediocre food
Beautiful surroundings and meticulous grounds. Staff was very friendly but if you eat in any of the restaurants expect SLOW service. The food was mediocre at best...expect cold portions, poor quality, slow room service.

DR getaway
I spent a week almost entirely at the resort. My objective was total relaxation and Paradisus did not disappoint. They had a large pool area and nice beach area. There were various food options that gave a sense of variety. The accomodation (junior suite) was more than adequate with nice fixture and a balcony. The area was very quiet and well-kept.

Sightseeing tip:
In Hotel
There are daily activities, which I didn't get the chance to participate in as we were there for a family gathering/wedding--however, I'd like to take a sandal making workshop and a ring making workshop. I'd recommend that you aim to do at least one day of activities.

Destination Wedding
I went for a friend's wedding. As far as any all inclusives I've ever been to, this was by far the most beautiful. The resort is huge and is amazingly gorgeous. The suite was great and very comfy. They had premium liquors such as Jack Daniels, Johnny Walker & Malibu. It wasn't the usual watered down generic liquor. The beach was beautiful and the water was blue and warm. The only problem I had with it was the food. I'm aware that with all-inclusives the food is never really up to par, but for the money I spent I expected more. Room service was free but the food was horrible to say the least. I would go back but the food would need to be 1000 times better.

Changed to the Reserve
We stayed 12 nights at the Paridisus Hotel. It took forever to get to the pool, we had to take a golf cart to go just about anywhere, they came around about every 10 min. The rooms were clean, the bathroom was realy old and run down. After the first 2 nights we decided to up-grade our room to the Reserve. What a difference!! The pool was right out side our room, they came and brought you food and drinks by the pool. There was a section on the beach for Reserve customers only. They also brought you food and drinks by the beach. It was a lot cheaper to book the Reserve at the hotel for us then on Orbitz. It was $50. per person per night to stay at the Reserve. It was well worth it. The rooms were great, the building was only a little over a year old. The pool was fabulous. Our bartender Ronnie was the greatest. Had a great outdoor grill with the best pizza and hamburgers. You can go anywhere on both hotels but the other guest couldn't go to the Reserve. You could always find a chair by the pool and the chairs were a lot nicer at the Reserve, they were padded and some had covers from the sun. Great hotel

Relaxing and Beautiful
I stayed at another Melia hotel in San Juan so, I was looking forward to this one. Mostly hits, few misses. I stayed at The Reserve and...if you're going to stay at this hotel STAY AT THE RESERVE. Here are the high and low lights:Check in: If you're staying at The Reserve, make sure you TELL THEM as soon as you get out of the car or shuttle upon arriving. They didn't ask me and I didn't know that The Reserve check-in was in a whole different location so I stood in line sweating with all the other regular check-ins. So, make sure you tell them. After they found out I was in The Reserve, I was whisked away to a (thankfully) air-conditioned room with one on one prompt service. They offered me a drink and tried to make sure my needs were met fully. The concierge service at The Reserve: absolutely worth the price of admission. American Airlines had lost my bag and, even though it had nothing to do with the resort, they took over for me, calling the agents, making sure I got my luggage which showed up in my room the next day. They made all my dinner reservations for me, my spa reservation and a few times they personally escorted me where I needed to go. Anything I needed, they bent over backwards to get me. I wanted to go parasailing, and one of them walked me to the location, explained what I wanted to the guy, and waited to escort me back to The Reserve. I dont know what I would have done without my concierges, seriously. One of them tried very briefly to talk to me about the timeshare that they hock but I just said a simple "no thanks" and the conversation was over. Pools and Beaches: There was absolutely NO PROBLEM at The Reserve with people reserving beach chairs early. The Reserve Pool was pretty private and there were never more than 10 guests there at any given time so there was zero problem getting a spot. The swim up bar was open too and [...] the bartender was so nice. I schlepped to the Royal Service pool once and it was more busy but there were still places available. As for the beaches, theres a private Reserve area on the beach and, once again, there were no problems finding a beach chair in a prime location. The beach waiter was great fun too. I asked for one drink and he brought me two...read my mind! The pools and beaches are clean and aesthetically they are beautiful. Im not much of a water person and even I spent copious amounts of time in the pool and at the beach. The Spa: Was pricey and they didnt do a great job with my pedicure. I mean, for 70 bucks, I expect magic and I could've gotten the same thing for 20 bucks here in L.A. It was worth it though only for the conversation with the salon employees and the other guests. I met some really sweet women there. The food: the only real low for me. I don't know what it was but I couldn't really digest anything I ate on that whole island. Besides that, it just wasn't very tasty. Terra - the steakhouse was by far the best place I ate. Dolce Vita, Italian, was good too but nothing special. Gabi's breakfast was the best breakfast I had. The omelette man isnt very friendly but he made a mean omelette. Vento, the Mediterranean place was just o.k. It was beautiful inside but I wasn't too impressed with the food. Hibiscus was troubling sometimes but I lucked out on a red beans and beef stew dish once. Room service was the same thing....ok but nothing to write home about. The Suite: BEAUTIFUL. stunning. I didn't know that there would be a kitchenette area and there was. I think I may have been upgraded without my knowledge which I certainly didn't mind. Two flat screens, DVD Player, CD Player, Jacuzzi tub, beautiful. Loved it. The bed was firmer than I would have personally liked but that was ok. The balcony faced the pool and Gabi and there was always something to look at out there. BEWARE though...don't shut the balcony door behind you, it WILL lock! Within minutes of arriving to my room, I locked myself out on the balcony....
