No Paradise at Paradisus Punta Cana!!!

Arriving to hotel was great. Hotel look was superb and absolutely what we expected. However, upon arrival we had to wait an hour for our room to be ready and during first night stay we got bug bites from bed bugs inside of our room and that pretty much ruined the trip for us since it happened the first night. It took 2.5 hours to get switched to another room after notifying staff and after arriving back to the US we had over 70 bug bites all over our body and went to Dr. and she even recommended filing complaint to headquarters and hotel compensation for entire stay. Ended up having extremely severe allergic reaction to the saliva of the bed bug when they bit and had to be on steroids and antibiotics. Currently suffering from bite scars and still having itching issues and it has been a month and scars are told to last for a year. Staff was friendly and resort is amazing. Bug bites were the biggest problem and it was the worst problem one could have especially with the bed bugs outbreak. I would attend this hotel again but request upon arrival a room that has just been occupied to be assured that there are no bed bugs. Thanks.

Punta Cana

Does not compare to Cancun Moon Palace trip!!! With the exception of a few Outstanding staff members and concierge the service was poor! Had to swap rooms after first night. Activities had unusual hours. Poor travel accomodations. Turned away along with others at Japanese resteraunt and asked to come back for second seating when they had in fact ample seating available. A Hassle to get transportation voucher back to airport accomodated. Never again!!!!!!!

Dont waste your money!

The hotel is pretty and modern but way too far from the beach.. you either have to walk or wait for a cart to take you..the pictures online are very deceiving and there is nothing to do at night except for one tiny club that is packed with drunk kids or sit in a casino where all the staff treats you like you are bothering them. Out of the 1,000 employees at the resort there were about 4 that were polite and happy.. I will never recommend this resort nor will I ever go back to the Dominican Republic!

PUNTA CANA BAD EXPERIENCE!

There was not much to do, it rained every day we were there. The lanuage barrier is huge, I will not go back to Punta Cana! The food was not great, the drinks were ok, the staff seemed only to care about where their next dollar was coming from. When we booked we booked to travel with another couple only to find out when we arrived that there were two Paraidsus[...]

Horrible Stay! Stay at Different Hotel!

The beach was amazing. One of the best beaches in the world I have ever been to and I have traveled to over 30 countries. Scuba diving was horrible there, you can tell that they destroy their reefs. Probably why the diving is free. Our room's air conditioner was broken the second night, our phone was broken (went through three), our clock was broken so we missed events, mini bar broke, had to switch rooms and still had more issues. Restaurant waits were incredible. You must go early to eat. Hardly any of the maintenance staff spoke English. All that said, I would stay at a different hotel in Punta Cana.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Walk to the town and shop at the souvenir shops. So much cheaper then at the resort and if you go with a group of two or more it will be safe in the day time. Also if you talk to the bell hop before leaving, they may arrange a store owner to pick you up for free and bring you back to the hotel.

AVOID STAYING HERE-SERVICE IS TERRIBLE

Where do we begin? We travel together yearly as a group and we know good service when we experience it, however this was not the case at the Paradisus Punta Cana. Rooms Some of us arrived around 12:30 with the understanding we would be checking in by 3pm as that was the customary check in time for all rooms. Unfortunately, some rooms were not ready until 7pm. You read right, some arrived at 12:30pm and rooms were not ready until 6:30pm. When we entered our rooms, some beds didnt have sheets, pillow cases, bathrooms with no face cloths or towels and the rooms smelled like mildew. One of our party members even had a dead cat die in their wall and had to complain in order to have their room moved. Staff/Service The staff here operate within a tightly fitted box which prevents them from providing good customer service. They often denied us service based on what kind of tags we carried on our wrists or were just down right rude to us based on the fact that we had not upgraded to one of the higher priced areas like Royal Service or the Reserve on the other side of the property. Some of them did not speak English, were not friendly and overall needed more training in this area to help patrons feel welcomed. After all we were there for nearly 10 days. My phone was also stolen by one of their employees and to date we have not heard back from the hotel as to how we will be compensated for the phone. We filed a police report and are waiting to hear back. The hotel manager promised to give us a room upgrade, free spa day and 7 day comp for future stays but reniged on that once she spoke to the general manager. As a group we spent close to $40,000 in one week and this was the 2nd year we came but never again. We will be looking into other resorts, nothing attached to Sol Melia. Dining Almost every restaurant was a buffet restaurant and the food was definitely hit or miss. There was always something wrong with our order, the food tasted watered down and inauthentic in addition to having that feeling like we were being herded through a cafeteria at the Hibiscus and Luna. Then there's the rule at El Romantico and two other restaurants that the men wear closed shoes. Who requests this on a vacation where we are all running around in flip flops for most of the day? Oh, but they have several shoes available for $100 at their local gift shop forcing the men to either buy shoes there to dine with the rest of the family or wait until after 9pm to dine some where else. Bottom line the food here was horrible and I was better off eating food from back home than the cattle feed they offered here. Varying Class of Service This was the worst of all. We paid good money to stay here and as far as we know, our money is good as long as it is green like eveyone else's. The excuse the managers gave when several in our party complained was that there are varying levels of service and that if we wanted better service then we needed to upgrade. Customer service 101-if you want people to spend more money at your facility how about you make them feel like it's actually worth it. We routinely observed staff looking at our wrist bands to determine their responses (demeanor, enthusiasm, service etc) as some of us were at the Reserve and some at the Paradisus where we observed the difference in staff attitude to those in our group with different wrist bands. We will never stay here again and encourage you to think twice before you spend money to stay here.

Nothing But Heat and Sweat

The location was beautiful but the heat killed every event I attended including my niece's wedding. The lack of air conditioning in the restaurants was incomprehensible. We were drenched in sweat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No respite from the heat. The rooms were temperature controlled to 75 degrees. The only areas with air conditioning were the casino and hotel store (I wonder why???) They took back a bottle of complementary champagne that they had given us. To say the least, I am happy to be home.

Worst trip I EVER took

I have traveled to many hotels in the Caribbean, and never had a bad expierence until now. My fiance and I visited this hotel for a wedding. The wedding was beautiful, however everything else was not. Upon arrival, we were given a double bed room when requested a king size room. They were able to resolve that problem after complaining to the front desk. Second every morning around 9:00am housekeeeping would knock on the door and ask how many people were in the room. The room was then not then cleaned till about 5:00pm everyday. Why are you even bothering to ask at 9:00am when you dont clean the room until 5:00pm? Barely any staff spoke English or even try I understand we are in Spanish speaking country however when your guests are majority are English speaking this is a problem. Food was also an issue but its not even worth my time disussing it. Now here comes the REAL issue with this place. My fiance who has worn a gold chain with a cross since he was a child, had it STOLEN OUT OF THE SAFE! What is the point of having a safe for valuables when some else has the key? They were nice enough to leave our passports however due to the sentimental value of the chain I would have rather had them take the passports. I had $250 cash stolen out of my wallet that was buried in my carry on bag doesnt matter if it was in the safe because I am sure that would have been taken along with the chain. The person who stole the cash left me with my small bills singles and fives they only want wanted my hundreds and fifty dollar bills. Security was called to the room, we were on the first floor. They came to room and checked the sliding door. What a surprise it was open, when my fiance purposely locked the door when we arrived to the room,we are from New York we are not stupid or nieve about theft while on vacation. Housekeeping opening the door while they clean the room?-NO probably just to let the theif in so no evidence of card being swiped to enter the room. While at guest services we met another gentleman who had his credit card, cash and license STOLEN OUT OF THE SAFE! His room was in the same vicinity. When asked to speak the manager we were told she couldnt speak to us. I asked why dont you call the police when a crime is committed at the hotel. We were told we can go to the police station, however we had a flight to catch home and were unable. Also we were told that since the money was not in the safe, they were not responsible. No resolution came about whether or not he will be reimbursed for the gold chain. They were not sympathetic to the situation at ALL! The show of lack of care and concern leads me to believe this happens quite often and they probably turn their head the other way when theft occurs. I found this whole situation very unsettling and would NEVER return to this hotel or Dominican Republic ever again.

Disappointing - never again

I had so much expectation with this place and I was so looking forward to visiting this country and staying at this hotel. The first arrival gave me a glimpse of the hell I was going to endure with our entire stay at this hotel. This hotel not only overbooked tourist, they are so unorganized that they could not keep the room in order. Aside from not being able to understand each other, the place is so over staffed and yet they are not able to accommodate tourist because hardly anyone speak english. They gave us a room that we had to move out the next day because they are overbooked. This was so annoying to have to stay in one room and move again the next day. Stayed at a supposedly nice room and guess what??? Not only did we have to wait for what seemed like more than 3 hours to finally have our room ready, which by this time had used up most of our day. My girlfriend woke up with bug bites on her whole arm. She was miserable because of this and when I asked for the sheet to be replaced, they don't. I had to asked for the supervisor to come and see what those filthy sheet did to my girlfriends arm. Disgusting!!! The front desk could not even help us with this dilemma because I could see enough people at the front desk having other complaints as well. Also, be careful with those excursions, some are excellent if you get the right company to arrange them for you but because they all work together, you will be passed around a lot and will make promises of the time of pick-up that will not be true and you could be waiting and wasting a whole day. Our day of departure was not without any dilemma. The shuttle company has people that are so bad in communicating to their tourist. They were going to have us wait for 2 hours for the shuttle to take us to the airport. We could have enjoyed our stay another 2 hours and because we have our luggages ready for departure I decided to speak with the shuttle manager and insist of having us pick-up. I can't even compare this vacation to other vacations I had because this was a nightmare. I can't even begin to share this experience without a thought of disgust. Never again!!!
