Disappointed

The rooms in this resort are very neglected, many without working air-conditioners. Complaints are mostly ignored. The hotel website features ala carte restaurants, however it is almost impossible to get reservations. The resort caters to the promotion of selling timeshares. The salesmen for the timeshare hold most of the reservations for the restaurants and will make them for you if you take a tour. The hotel has very limited reservations available, yet when you show up at the restaurant it is half full. The entertainment staff is awesome! The beach is beautiful.

Occidental punta cana

I stayed here with a friend and the staff was one of my favorite parts of the trip, Yes they may speak a little English but they are very nice and attentive and try their best to accommodate you. When I first arrived I received a king bed, I spoke to the bell boy and they quickly changed me to a double bed. I stayed in number ten not fat from poll and right across from buffet. It is a walk to the beach, but I personally enjoyed staying at this building. The pools are nice and the food is not bad and they know how to change up the buffet every night. I would return here and by only complaint is that maybe the bathrooms should get renovated. They look a little rusty and old fashioned, by they were very clean.

worst resort I've stayed at

The resort is old and falling apart. The lobby chairs are stained, with rips and holes in the cushions, the structure of the furniture is also falling apart, even burn holes on the tables. The walk ways are falling apart w holes and that is dangerous. I have never seen a pool in such need of repair, the chunks of concrete out, the grate around the pool falling apart and I almost fell. The plant pots are also chipped and falling apart. Very few flowers, many dried out and half dead. The curbs and mason work falling apart. I wasn't there 3 hrs when I was harassed as many times to go to their seminar so they could try to sell me a timeshare. I said no and no and no, but was harassed. He told me to help him because he makes commission, and he wouldn't stop asking me daily. I complained to the front desk about the terrible resort, being harassed, and upgraded my bracelet only to the royal club so I could get better surroundings. Of course I paid for it. NO apologies or embarrassment or free or discounted upgraded bracelet not even room. Well the royal club wasn't much better. The walk ways, floors, ect falling apart and dirty. The beach club staff just stood around on their cell phones often. Empty beer cans and cups around, dirty towels, sand everywhere, they never offered service you had to go ask for service. Often barmaid would have to go to get some stock - cuz she couldn't do it while wasting her time doing nothing, only when someone wanted something and made them wait. They didn't replenish towels so they were out early in the am. The food in the royal club dining room was ok but same menu every single day. Our last dinner there we were practically ignored, no bread offered or given, took forever to take our order and after food received we never saw them again. The buffet food was not very good and nearly the same everyday and the service wasn't good either, had to go get own drinks because none offered one time and another we sat w empty glasses. And most of the "hot" food was cold to tepid. I am a very early riser and there was no where to get coffee until 7am. The safe in the room was older than dirt! and you had to pay to use it. No free wifi unless upgraded and then only available at beach club. The ceiling fan in our room shook so bad like it was going to fly off the ceiling so we didn't use it. I spoke w people who loved the resort - I have no idea how anyone can think a resort falling apart and subpar service is great. I have many pictures to prove my points. I would NEVER return.

Amazing beach

The check in was a bit confusing but after that a fantastic time! Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful. Very few spoke enlglish though. The room wasn't anything spectacular but we were only in it to sleep. The beach and pools were amazing. One of the nicest spots on the beach! Many of the other hotels we walked by were very small beaches. The food was ok. A lot of salt and oil though. Hard to get reservations to the restaurants that require them. We picked the resort for the beach. And were very happy with that decision!

One of the worst trips ever!

Our first room was decent except for the noise from the daily pool party and nightly show. We were not asked if that was ok. We asked to be moved and that's when the trouble started. The air conditioner leaked even after being fixed. It even began leaking into the bathroom. The water from the shower spilled over onto the floor and would not drain so some was left in the tub as standing water. We were moved again and the air was not as cool as we would have liked. The shower was the same. It drained onto the floor and water did not drain. Took some time to get our reservations correct. The air did not work in two of the three restaurants that was open so eating was uncomfortable to say the least. Speaking of eating, the food was not very good as a whole. There were some good dishes, but not enough. Some meals were the same each day. Communicating with the staff was hard because most did not speak very good English. We were harassed constantly about buying something. The only saving grace was a nice massage and the beach. I was truly unhappy on this trip. Occidental will not see me again.

go simple and save

overall good times... but rough start wrong room and no concierge/room services as promised and paid $50.00 extra for..... skip it and save the $$ this is not a fancy resort but if you want the beach and pool as your main stay its money well spent

Hotel Stay

Great Time, but not for singles

Everything was great, in terms of amenities, food, cleanliness, the staff, etc.. The one thing I noticed was it was mostly families/couples, which was contrary to reviews that I read online before going. Maybe it was the time of year that I went (mid-June) ? I would definitely go back, but only with a girlfriend/spouse.

Mostly everything in the gift shop is expensive (sunblock cost me $30, and when you factor in different SPFs for face and body, you will probably need more than one bottle). It might be worth it to bring your own and pay to check a bag on the flight over.

Economical Weekend Getaway

Overall and in relation to the price - good value. Italian Restaurant was under renovation. Thus only Steakhouse & Oriental to choose from for a evening Dinner. Overall experience was disappointing in both restaurants - service good but food below average. Hotel is too large though - 860 rooms and from Friday - Sunday, very full, which also impacted the service level, i.e. Room Cleaning, waiting time for Lunch at the Restaurant etc. The evening shows were mediocre. Mangu Disco is quite nice though. Also, a lot of kids. Not the place for an Adult only type getaway!

Eh

Coming from the US, for some reason I expected at least some English to be spoken... that' would be a nope... location on the beach great, buffet was actually better than the restaurants. There were little bugs crawling in the bathroom and we got a notice that the room was to be fumigated, but wasn't... all in all beach was good, make sure you get to beach early or no way you are going to sit in anything but sand... Hotel should make all towels be returned at end of day... that way the same people can't get same seats on beach EVERY DAY!!
