Great Value

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Melia Caribe from 4/24-5/01 and we both had a great time. The beach is very long, with beautiful soft white sand and there are plenty of chairs, though you do have to get up early to get the ones with shade. The two main pools were both pretty much the same in size and appearance but the pool on Tropical side wasn?t nearly as crowded and you could find chairs there easily. The food at breakfast was good with plenty of variety. At lunch the food was just ok. I found myself eating the same things at lunch everyday due to the lack of variety. Dinners were great as long as you made reservations at one of the restaurants. Reservations are tricky; you call between 9pm-11pm or the next morning 8am-5pm. I found that calling after 10pm or in the morning to be best, or you can call from one of the restaurant/bar phones and get through easily at anytime. The best of the restaurants was Capri, Ma Maison, La Pagoda, El Guarapo, Mexican, and Hokkaido. At the Japanese, Hokkaido, they cook at your table and its very popular, but its not nearly as good as any teppanyaki place in the US, so dont sweat it if you cant get reservations. The American Grill was OK and the Italian, La Gondola, wasn?t very good at all. The best bar to go to was the Avenue Bar or one of the Lobby bars (the Coco Loco drink was my favorite). The pool bars were adequate for the daytime. DO NOT get sucked into the Vacation Club presentation, they will tell you anything to get you in there, they dont hound you about it unless you agree to go to it and then they are really pushy. Yes, we got suckered into it. There was plenty of bottled water where ever you went and neither of us got sick from the food. The good things about the resort: Great beach and pool area, many restaurants to choose from for dinner, the architecture and decorating of the themed restaurants was really well done, clean comfortable rooms, 98% of the staff was very friendly, the huts on the beach are perfect for shade, and the landscaping all over the resort was beautiful. The bad things about the resort: very spread out, at least 15 min walk or 25 min super slow tram ride to restaurants, lack of information on what the resort is offering, I dont know why they dont have a brochure for the Spa offerings, or a info sheet telling you about the shows and activities going on at the resort for the week in the rooms, the prices of everything in the Lobby stores are outrageous, at least double what the prices normally are. Overall its a great value, if you can afford an expensive resort you would probably like it more, but this is a great option for those looking for the most bang for their buck.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a really nice quiet restaurant called the Jellyfish just a short walk (about 500 feet right after the flea market) down the beach. It?s a really cute looking place with a gorgeous view. The service is slow and they don?t take credit cards, but it?s a cool place to get away from the resort for a couple of drinks and appetizers.

Amazing place to be

First thing I have to say ....... if you have a partner or a family its the place to go and relax. The hotel staff were amazing, they helped us booke reservations and answered every questions we had. The resort and the hotel was clean ... the property is very big, so when checking in make sure you get a room close to the ocean. And at night you could walk to the restaurant because there all close to the lobby. Once you get there you know what Im talking about. It will take 15 mintues to walk, but its such a nice walk through the palm streets and little ponds. Just make a drink in your room and walk with it. Like the drink called Mamajuana. They say this drink saves marriages. I think there so true.... because it does get you all wild and crazy. But in a good way. GOOOOOO and have a great time.

Bustling Hotel with Attentive Friendly Staff

This is really 2 hotels attached. Because of it's size, a better orientation would have been helpful. Having said this, there was plently to do and plently of food. As dishes were depleted, they were immediately replaced on the buffet. Our room was bright and clean. Pools and beach were well maintained. The staff was always friendly.

My Paradise Vacation

Our stay at Melia Caribe Tropical, was wonderful! We experience A+ treatment, from the moment we arrived. The friendly staff, rooms, food and the lovely gardens were fantastic. I am fussy when is comes to cleaniness and food. But everything passed my test. This resort I would highly recommemd to everyone. I haven't stopped talking about the paradise we were in. The beaches are so clean and there are so many activities going on there is no time to be bored. Having all inclusive is the way to go. The buffet has such a large variety and can never go hunger. The staff is so friendly, and they are there to help in any area needed, Oh yes! If you know spanish it is helpful but many of them speak english. Again it is paradise and I would certainly return again.

Absolute Paradise

Breath taking. The resort was gorgeous. The staff went above and beyond. They were exceptional. The pool and the beach were great. The room was comfortable. The dining was exquisite as well as the lush tropical surroundings. We didn't want to go home and look forward to returning. Security was not an issue.

Family friendly and great for couples

The room was very nice, although I had a problem with the smell of cigarette, I had to complain twice and even then, the smell lingered. I wish they would have moved me to another room. The room itself was very nice with a great balcony and beautifull of view. It could have used a little more airconditioning. The restaurants were good and the service was always pleasant. The ground are absolutely beautiful. I would go again but next time I may want to use their Royal Service, I did notice people with that special bracelet had a better treatment. The airport checking in was a nightmare.. we were two hours wating on line and even then we had to run across the runway...... They need more people to attend all the passengers that travel to their country.

Great service

The resort grounds were great down to the las blade of grass. Royal service was great with good room service and check in. Room was great except for a broken door into the bedroom that no one came to fix after a call to front desk. On grounds transportation was very good and a plus. Food was hit or miss depending on type of food. Bad italian great japanies. Day trips were perfectly orginized. Over all great experience and would recommend.
