Unbeatable value

This hotel is outstanding for the price! The Beach access is close and convenient. The pool is very nice with swim up bar. The rooms are huge with balcony, living room and enormous bed. The buffets and restaurants were surprisingly delicious, no complaints. Definitely go see the free shows at night in the lobby, they are well done. I recommend bringing plenty of singles to tip (but don't get crazy, tip your drink/food/drivers and whoever else you feel). Don't expect too much as far as amenities/activities, the good ones are only free at a weird time on an off day. All in all, perfect for a beach/sun getaway at a reasonable price!!

Make sure to call in your restaurant reservations well ahead of time (morning time and day before). They fill up quick! You can also do it through lobby computer under your room number (much easier).

Best trip ever!

We have been here 3 other times and we are always wow'd each and every time we visit punta cana. They upgraded our room to familt suite w special kids area/beds and mini fridge w milk and juice stocked. Room was impeccible. The beaches are divine! The staff is amazing! The a la carte dinners were awesome!! One of the best things going for Melia Caribe by far is its Kids Club. Open evetyday from 10-5. We couldnt keep our 10 year old boys away from the nonstop action ... Soccer football swimming crafts basketball beach games ziplining lunches and snacks. All under superbision of fantastic funloving staff. They begged to go every day! And dont forget the kids mini disco/shows every night at 8:00. They had entertainment and disco and dancing lessons and live music every night for all to enjoy. And who could forget unlimited drinks!! Punta Cana is worth the trip!!!

Perfect Family Vacation

We had a great time during our 5 day vacation. Resort is beautiful, well maintained, staff is friendly. Was a little disappointed with some speciality restaurants, but overall it was fine. Had loads of fun at the tiki bar on the pool. There are so many Bars in this resort and great lounges. Free day care an you also get nanny services. Resort is huge, so be prepared to walk a little bit. Weather was perfect. We didnt upgarde to Royal service and i dont think we missed anything. Liqour is all domestic and only 1 beer - Presidente.

Most of the staff speaks only spanish and little bit of english. Just learn a little bit of spanish before you leave, this helps a lot.

Awesome for families with children!

We stayed at the Melia Tropical for one week and had a great time! We had our 1.5 year old daughter with us and as far as family friendliness, this hotel was tops! We did not get VIP upgrade and were very happy we didn't....we LOVED our room location near the beach, kids pool, kids club, breakfast/lunch buffet and most of "perks" of VIP were not very attractive to us being a young family. With children, a room near the beach and pool is a must! (Buildings 1-16 are best). The other restaurants are not too far and actually a very nice walk for the evenings, so that was not a problem especially since we didn't want to take the shuttle as we preferred to walk with the baby in her stroller. The staff was very nice, food was okay, although it lacked variety in regard to the buffets for breakfast and lunch, a la carte restaurants were great! Overall, we had an amazing time and will likely come back in the future with future children ;)

Great Place to Relax

I went to get away from the cold winter blues and it was just what I needed!! It was 12degrees in NYC and 82degrees there. the hotel was typical All Inclusive .....decent food, friendly staff and OK drinks but overall I was satisfied. I recommend this hotel if you just want a get away that is good but not great.

Great family vacation

We took the trip with our two kids aged 20 and 23. The restaurants were very good, the beach clean and beautiful. Went sailing a couple of times and the conditions were great. New years eve had a big party and fireworks. We had a great time.

The good and the bad

The hotel grounds were very good and well kept. A beautiful resort but was to big for my taste. The room was very nice and clean. The beach was very nice and inviting. We upgraded to the Royal Service and there was nothing Royal about it. I was there for five days and there were only a couple of times I felt like the staff even really cared to help me with a question or anything else. Several times I would walk up to the Royal Service desk or another area where several hotel employees were located (towel attendants at the pool, front desk, several bars and restaurants, etc) and they would not even acknowledge my presence, I would have to interrupt them from texting on their phones or having a conversation between themselves to get any service. I always felt like I was bothering them instead of feeling like they welcomed me as a guest and were happy to help me. Overall the food was good and there is a restaurant that you can pay extra for steak and lobster. My family of three chose to eat at this restaurant one night and it was outstanding. Overall I don't think the cost of the trip was in line with the poor service we received. Some final notes - there was no conditioner in the showers and they did not provide it, we had to pay 11 U.S. dollars for a small bottle of conditioner in the gift shop. Also, we had to pay 33 U.S. dollars for a bottle of sun screen so make sure you bring your own! That is ridiculous!

Just OK

Hands down, the grounds are beautiful! Check In took over an hour. The resort is so huge, its hard to know what is going on, when etc etc..a lot of walking or a lot of waiting for the train to pick you up. We upgraded to Royal Service, and the only difference we could tell was top shelf drinks , the Gabi and the private beach( which was still hard to find a chair on the beach). Language barrier is a challenge. Tipping is expected and was not appreciated at all. Food was average and it was hard to get a reservation, a couple of the resturants were closed too. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves b/c were on an island, but it could have been so much more with a better staff
