The worst vacation ever

Would not recommend Sun, Aug 16, 2015
First of all the room got flooded and the water from the sewer got into the room, the water smelled horrible and some of the waiters/waitresses were giving a lot of attitude. The managers didn't give the right solutions. I was not happy with this hotel.

Two Words, NO BUENO!

Would not recommend Thu, Aug 6, 2015
Where do I begin, from the moment we arrived we were greeted by a rude staff and were told our room was not ready even through it was supposed to have been ready upon our arrival. We stayed in The Level as we expected a better level of service (I can not imagine how bad the service would have been if we stayed in the general area). I booked a Master Suite and the room looked NOTHING like the pictures online, the rooms were dated, our TV stopped working 3 times and we had a huge water leak coming from the ceiling, after repeated calls into the front desk I had to walk to the VIP area and then they finally sent someone to fix the problem. We were supposed to have a VIP concierge, after 3 days of staying at the resort I asked where our Butler was and I was told he went on vacation and was visiting home so half way through my trip they assigned us a new Butler (who could care less knowing we were leaving in another 4 days). You need to take golf carts to get around the resort from The Level, when we called for carts they either showed up extremely late or never came at all. When going to dinner or the bar the servers were extremely rude to you if you did not speak Spanish, I felt as if they did not like Americans and I find that to be extremely foolish and insulting, I have stayed in DR in the past and never experienced the horrible service which we had at this resort. The food was sub par to say the least, we went to the restaurants that cost extra because atleast at those facilities the service was a little better and the food was a lot better. This placed FAILED on so many levels, I do not recommend it because of the poor service, rude employees, lack of management, lack of employees that speak or even understand English. I have stayed at The Paradisus Palma Real Reserve next door in the past and my experience was the exact opposite of this place which is actually owned by the same company. Our trip was so bad and the people were so rude that I doubt I will ever even take my family back to The Dominican Republic....this place stinks!

Service is extremely bad!!

Would not recommend Wed, Jul 29, 2015
We spent 2 day moving from room to room because AC did not work. No sense of urgency to have it fixed. Rules are set but not followed by staff your service is based on how much you tip! No tip, horrible service! Staff was rude and only did things if they felt like it! Resort, way to big, the restarants are not by reservation so when you go they say their booked but you look inside and you see that it's not. And if that was the case they have plenty of space to add more tables especially during high season. I guess This is a way to get more people to the buffets so the food won't go to waist. Food was good, best was the French believe it or not. Steak and Lobster was good also. You have to wait on trains in that heat like if it was the land of make believe. No VIP packages for alcohol and the local alcohol was watered down! They would pour the cheap brugal into the Extra Viejo bottles and give it to the younger crowed so when my nephew brought me a drinker I knew right away and asked it to be poured from a unopenned bottle and I tasted the difference. It Took them for ever to get drunk! There were 2 guys at the front desk who were very helpful and offered to resolve what ever issues we had thanks Jefrey and Asi!!! You guys were great!

Fun Trip!

Would recommend Sat, Jul 25, 2015
My daughter and I took a girls trip to Punta Cana and stayed at the Melia Caribe Tropical Resort. It is a beautiful hotel/resort, lovely grounds and great access to the beach. The food was edible but average. We really wanted to try the Italian restaurant, but it seemed to be very unorganized when trying to get in. I would suggest for all of the restaurants that they have a beeper or intercom system while waiting for a table because we had to keep checking to see when our room number might be called. Otherwise, we wanted to give kudos to Jonathan in the American Grille. He was very attentive and had a great personality and made us feel very welcome our first night. We would also like to single out Fernando, who sold us a parasailing excursion from the scuba area. He is fantastic and so funny. We really enjoyed talking to him daily while enjoying the beach. Also, Jean Louise, who we like to call the man who does everything was a lot of fun. My daughter learned merengue on the beach and we both did Zumba with him. He also gets the party started during the nightly dancing in the hotel which we enjoyed. Overall, the hotel is very nice and we would stay again. The shuttle service and golf cart service was nice to have too when we needed the quick ride to the beach/pool area which was not close to our room. Also, the rooms were comfortable and I loved the big, fluffy pillows on the bed. We slept well. The beach area is lovely and there were lots of beach chairs available, so no problems finding a great palm tree to park under, have a drink and bask in the sunshine.

Annual Vacation

Would not recommend Sun, Jul 5, 2015
I travel every summer and have to say this trip was the all time worst one I've ever taken. I'm going sum up this whole trip with one word about 75 of the natives I encountered, whether it was at the aiport , hotel or on an excursion.(I took 3 excursions).....RUDE! If you don't upgrade to the Level ( $500. more for our stay) the service is infuriar The beach & pool bartenders are terrble. I was overlooked by both bars almost everytime I walked up to order a drink. They would purposely act as though I wasn't there and wait on 4-7 people who walked or swam up after me before I could get them to take my order. I was tipping too. (Not sure why, just hoped it would get better since I was staying 8 days, it never did.) The buffet at the beach is loaded with nasty flies all over the food. Very few of the natives were kind and it seemed like the ones that were, worked in the restaurants and wanted tips from you. I encountered blatant discrimination everywhere I went in this hotel and on the excursions too. Not sure why security guards with billy clubs are necssary on the grounds of this resort, but I'd do know I'd never return. Even if you offered me an all expense paid vacation I'd turn it down. Melia and the whole country of the DR need learn that tourism is your only means and if you run the tourist off, you'll have even less.
