Great value for the money. The beach is beautful and the water pretty with some waves. It is breezy at the beach and calm at ... the pool. Pool is long and large so not everyone is congested in one area. The food is good with a large number of choices. The staff is very nice and friendly.

You can shop at the hotel and pay more. Or you can shop down the beach (about 2 mile walk) or at a shopping center 5 min walk from hotel. You can negotiate at the latter 2 places. One evening some of the shop owners come to the hotel and you can negotiate then too.

Majestic Wedding
S&J Nov 23, 2009
We were here for a friend's wedding. The wedding was held on the beach at 3PM (I would suggest a later time though if you are ... planning on a wedding here like 5PM because it was sooooo hot at this time). The wedding planner was a great help. However, the bride had her hair done at the spa and it turned out terrible, had to help her redo it right before the ceremony! Also, the bridal party ordered room service while we were getting ready before the ceremony, the food took almost 2 hours to get the room and arrived 15 minutes before we had to go to the beach for the ceremony even though we called about it no less than 4 times. The hotel is beautiful, the beach is clean and white sands (some seaweed in the morning but they clean it up through the morning). The food was good, typical food, a lot of fried stuff. Some of the people we were travelling with did get sick after eating at the Chinese restaurant. We wanted to eat at the Japanese restaurant but couldn't get reservations there for any night we were there. The disco was fun, empty some nights but a good time if you are with a big group anyways. The bars and bartenders were excellent, especially at the bars around the pool! We took the shuttle from the airport to the hotel and it was over 45 minutes to get there, so on the way back to the airport we took a cab it was less than 25 minutes and cheaper than the shuttle if you have 2+ ppl. I have previously stayed at the Bavaro Princess, which has a lower ranking than this one and a lower price. There was not a significant difference between the two hotels, the rooms and food were similar. The lobby at the Majestic is nicer, all marble. The pool is smaller at the Princess but the grounds are larger at the Princess and there is a trolley that will drive you around the whole complex (very convenient!). Our vacation was great, no major problems, would suggest hotel for weddings.

There is a shopping market just outside the gates of the hotel to the right. The prices are significantly cheaper than inside the hotel at the shops and also cheaper than the one night when they bring in the vendors and set-up right by the theatre area. As a female, I would suggest not going alone, bring along a male as it was slightly uncomfortable and we were some of the only people in the whole market so we were hassled a lot.

A word of caution: the Renova Spa is NOT located at the Majestic Colonial. Although Orbitz will offer you a spa package, be aware that it is NOT located at Majestic Colonial. I pre-paid a Renova Spa package for two ($158 in total) only to find out that Renova has not been at Majestic for two years. Majestic Spa does not honor Renova Spa vouchers. So, my advice is to forego prepurchasing your spa package and save yourself the hassle of requesting a refund from Orbitz. I'm still waiting for a response on that one!!!

Wonderful staff and beautiful beach
La Verdad Oct 26, 2009
Really enjoyed the staff members. They were very friendly and constantly worked to help us enjoy our stay. The pool always ... had activities going on (with loud music), so you could decide if you wanted the spring break or entertainment experience or if you wanted to move to the beach or a quieter part of the pool. There were shows in the outdoor theatre every night. We only went to the Michael Jackson one which was good. We did experience a little stomach upset from the food. We were diligent in using and drinking bottled water, but I'm not sure if the same care was put into preparing the food. We went scuba diving with a boat driver from a vendor we found on the beach. It was a fun boat ride and decent snorkeling.

Unforgettable Caribbean vacation
Enigma1128 Sep 4, 2009
In lieu of a sweet sixteen party, my daughter asked for a week-long vacation to the Caribbean. Our trip to Majestic Colonial ... was everything we hoped it would be. The 400-meter pool was even better than pictured on the website. We took advantage of all of the dining options, and we weren't disappointed. The staff at the resort was friendly and very accomodating. We enjoyed renting speedboats and parasailing on the beachfront. There were many scheduled activities including Spanish lessons, dance lessons, and water aerobics. The only negative was obtaining extra bath towels in our room. Housekeeping never left more than two towels each day. Daily calls had to be placed to Guest Services to obtain wash cloths and a tub mat. Other than the shortage of bath linens, we found our room clean and comfortable.

Still we looked forward to our meals. The pool is so awesome and I can't say enough about the beach. The rooms are not perfect but still very nice, comfortable and clean. BK Aug 23, 2009
While we were there we did the banana boat, scuba diving, and horseback riding. The hotel was very beautiful, beach was ... gorgeous, and facilities were kept very clean. The power went out a couple times, probably as a result of the tropical storms/hurricanes (Aug. '09). This was my first time at an all-inclusive resort and it was pretty good. The food wasn't the best except the Japanese restaurant was amazing! The room was great, staff was friendly however, halfway through the trip our room became filled with mosquitos. That was my only complaint.

Mr. Dissapointed Aug 8, 2009
To start off, this was my first time in Punta Cana and usually I make the most out of any situation, but at this time I must ... say I was dissapointed. I was not impressed with this resort at all. When we first arrived things started out well, but to our surprise it wasn't what we expected. The room was not cleaned properly and it took an hour to get it cleaned and we still ended up with old sheets. The bed was made everyday but the sheets remained the same throughout our stay. As we moved on the area in general is well groomed and the beach is clean and nice. The food and service leaves something to be desired. If you do not speak spanish or do not understand any spanish at all this is not the resort for you. The plates and glasses were not cleaned well at all and the food was the same everyday. The service is very poor, although friendly we could not get anything we asked for until 15 mins later when it came to ordering drinks, trying to place an order in their overly booked resturants, or receiving your food before it got cold after you placed your order and an hour if it was something for the room. They are very unorganized in their service at this resort and would recommend you staying on the elegance side of the resort, but I don't think its going to be any better if you decide to book here. I have been to other all inclusive resorts and never have I been so dissapointed. I made the best of the situation and did what I could to enjoy may stay over all and refrained from asking for anything and making sure the plates were cleaned even though I got sick after I left with a stomach virus. I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone I like and wish that I could have proposed to my girlfriend at a better location. For this place to be only 4 years old it needs help.

Make sure that everything is clean when you pick up a plate or glass. If you ask for a drink understand that the glass you receive may not be its cleanest. Also, be very careful about what you eat, it could make you sick.

TR Aug 4, 2009
My Husband and I stayed at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. It is a ... fantastic resort. The beach is amazing with the white sand and the warm, clear ocean. The massive pool is excellent with the swim-up bar. The Spa is definitely worth it as it was so relaxing! The staff was very friendly, the resort and rooms was clean and beautiful, and the shows and food were better than I ever expected! The restaurants are great and the bars are diverse - Jose at the beach bar was so nice!!! Great hotel and amazing place to lie in the sun, relax, swim, eat, and drink!

I was there for a wedding the wedding coordinator was rude. My cousin did not get what she was promised. I cut my foot and ... they told me too bad and I had to pay $200 usd for medical care and meds. I asked to speak to the manager I was told he wouldn't talk to me and i should have purchase med insurance before leaving the US. No wash clothes or towels, poor service, bad food, no English speaking staff hard to communicate with someone who doesn't speak your lang. The staff just didn't care. The one night club that was on the resort just sucked. I have taken many vacations and this was the WORST!!!!

After visiting Excellence in Riviera Cancun last year, we found ourselves comparing every little detail. It was not even ... close. Excellence was far better. Majestic is nice hotel, it offers everything you could want: decent rooms, nice pool, swim-up bar, restaurants, spa and much more. But the attention to details is their biggest downfall. The room service was not timely. We got to the resort at 4, the room was not ready, when it was, we didnt have sheets on out bed, when we got our sheets, they were wet, yes, we slept on the wet sheets. They only left us 2 towels. How are we supposed to dry our hands? Bath robes were none existent. The pool was great, no complaints. The swim-up could be great. They only had 2 bartenders and a packed house. Lets be real, a wait at any bar is expected, but not 10 minutes either. The restaurants are nice, the food is terrible, the service is worse. Our very first lunch, they never brought our drinks. The wait staff runs around all over the place with no order. Breakfast was best food. Its pretty hard to mess up eggs and fruit though. All in all, it was a good trip, only because we are not the type to complain. If you are picky, this is not the place for you. Luckily we were with friends and made light of the situation.

First trip to Dominican -- have vacationed at other English speaking islands in Caribbean. Nice hotel overall. Beaches and ... pool very nice. Dining ok, but definitely barely 4 star worthy, and not at all if you exclude the reservation-only restaurants. Major issues checking in - only hotel I've ever visited where simply your ID won't get you into your room, but need your confirmation E-MAIL from booking site (Orbitz). Nightlife fair, seems as though they do their best to balance between families/singles/couples, and nothing stands our accordingly.

I ate at the buffet for almost every meal. The food was ok, but not great, and did not change all week.

Bring you own Sun Tan lotion, beach toys, or other personal items becuase they are selling them for 3 times the amount of money that the US charges.

Walk about three miles down the beach to a large shopping area right on the beach. Be sure to bargain. We got a few items and they said 121.00 at first. I ended up paying 40.00.

HELPFUL HINTS AND TIPS- do not drink tap water. bring pills for upset stomach/diarrhea(mostly everyone has this issue) bring asprin/tylonal-they dont have any. bring some singles($$) with you.. very greatful for a few bucks bring floaties and tanning lotion/aloe - they really juice up the price. if you take pictures with the monkey/parrots/or other animals(I did the monkey-was great) the cheapest package for pictures is $45. Only drink bottle water(they have it at all bars) If you enjoy cigars- take the free tour to Don Lucas Cigar factory- bring money to buy cigars too.. very fun free trip. IF YOU NEED TO SHOP FOR SOUVENIERS THERE IS A MARKET AT THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY. IT IS A SHORT WALK BUT IT IS VERY HOT IN THE SUN, SO GO EARLY. ALSO, THEY ARE VERY, VERY PUSHY AND YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO BARGAIN. IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO BARGAIN JUST GO TO THE STORES AT THE RESORT. THE MAJESTIC ELEGANCE IS CONNECTED, SO YOU CAN TRY THERE STORES AS WELL.
